Post HID install..... not that impressed!!!

Recommended Posts

I was sure this time that they were in properly, I shaved down the tabs and the bulb seemingly went in with no problems. Either way I've already ordered the DDM 55w 5k kit and it just shipped today. I'm going to put that kit in with the morimoto harness and see if this fixes my problems. I'll post once that's installed and hopefully without any of these issues.........

Thanks again all for your help!

I don't know about you guys, but the projection halogens are friggen bright. I constantly have people flashing me on the highway thinking I have my brights on. IF I installed HID's, I would have to lower them down.

One drive down a dark two lane road will show you that the factory halogen projectors are not very bright at all. The reason you are "constantly" getting flashed is because your headlights are not aimed properly. It's really easy to lower them yourself or you could run it over to the closest Ford dealer.

So I finally got around to installing the DDM 9006 kit and three hours later I still can't get one of the bulbs in. I tried trimming and notching the tabs because I read that it helped some people and still nothing. I ended up breaking one of the tabs off and now have to order a new set of bulbs again. I used kc300's video and tried to insert the two top tabs and then push up to get the bottom tab to set but it would not go no matter what I did. Really frustrating and I had to go back to the stock halogens for now.

Since I have to order new buls anyway, should I just give the DDM 9005's a shot since the 9006's didn't work for the life of me? I don't know what the difference is between the two but it seems weird that the two are interchangable. Why would there be two types that are that close to eachother? I'm starting to think that I'm just not desgined to have HID's..........

Thanks,

-Russ

I actually just noticed that KC300 had a revision to the bulb installation diagram from his video. The video says that you should put the top two tabs in first and then push the tabs up to clear the bottom tab. Another post says to insert the two large tabs near the bottom first and then push down to clear the smaller tab.

Looking at the light itself it seems the layout of the bulb in the video is correct, but maybe I was having trouble because I was pushing up instead of pushing down? Attached is a picture where you can see both versions, can someone confirm which is correct?

I still don't know if I should go with a 9006 or 9005 for the next set. I'm thinking of ordering both, if they both fit anyway this way I'll have back up bulbs. This way I'll save on shipping from DDM as well which is pretty expensive.

Don't feel bad i am having the same issue with my drivers side, passenger went in with no problem at all.

mclellan - It's nice to not be alone but so many people are having no problems at all. Are you using 9006's or 9005's? I just ordered a pair of both from DDM but probably won't have them until next week. I'm gonna try the 9005's first and see if I have more luck.

I posted another topic, don't think it's related, but now I'm having problems with all of the lights on the drivers side. They don't seem to be getting full power. Just adds to the list of the day!

Update: So I ordered a new DDM 55w 5k kit with both the 9005 & 9006 bulbs. Tried the 9005 bulbs and got them both installed with no problems!!!! Took about 5 minutes total which was fantastic. I also installed a Morimoto harness and can't wait until it gets dark to see what these babies look like.

Already during the day they are brighter than the last kit I had installed so I'm hopeful for tonight. I'll post again later once it's dark.

Thanks,

-Russ

Good to hear Rusty! Did you happen to compare the base's and tabs of the new 9005 and 9006 to see if they look different? I thought the only difference between the 9005 & 9006 halogen bulb was the connector being keyed and the 9006 bulb having the dark cap on the end of the bulb. I just might have to check my trucks HID's... Highs are 9005 and lows are 9006's...

Hey Tim, I did compare them as I was curious why these worked flawlessly for some and the 9006's were being so troublesome. They looked identical to me, the tabs were the same size and thickness. I know the halogens have different wattage and the end cap that you mentioned but these didn't have any of that.

I will also say that these HID's are freakin' awesome!! Super bright white light everywhere! Definitely worth the frustration that I went through and would recommend the 9005 bulbs to anyone who's having trouble with the 9006's.

I installed a set of 6K ones from retro solutions, Night vision 35 watt ones and they are bright! Glad you got it sorted out though. I believe they were 9006s and I also had a hell of a time getting them in. I didn't dremel but with some time I got them in and never want to take them out!! Rusty you want to unload some of your ballast/lights??? PM me! I need to do my fogs.
