TheWilldog
Some ne'er-do-well decided to forcibly shorten my Edge's antenna mast. Now I left with this little nub. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll204/thewilldog/Edge/IMG_2423_zpsb8afd85c.jpg How does one replace this piece? Is it possible to just replace the mast, or do have to replace the whole unit?
thirdgenlxi
Can't really see much of anything from that pic whether it damaged the base or not.... would kinda need a close up pic from the backside angle to really see. But the mast just screws in there, as long as you can get the old one out and the threaded part in the base isn't damaged, just get a new mast
TheWilldog
The mast is broken down to the base. I don't think I can get any pliers on it. candurin
Can you access the broken, threaded piece of the antenna? If they broke the base of the unit, then you're SOL and need to likely drop the headliner to replace. If you can get out the remaining threaded portion of the broken antenna, then a replacement is very easy to do (and is a separate part/mast). I don't see an easy way to get at it from inside the car: http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll204/thewilldog/Edge/IMG_2433_zpse0f4008d.jpg How much work is dropping the headliner? Aha! I was able to get a hold of it. Tried a different pair of needle nose pliers. I'll go hunting for a new mast, thanks. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll204/thewilldog/Edge/IMG_2434_zps743348c8.jpg
candurin
Great news! FYI, you can swap the antenna for one from a mini (do a search on the forum). Zero signal loss and a much smaller antenna. Looks stock.
Mark94
Sometimes I hate being part of forums... I didn't even notice how ugly the antenna was until I read this thread and searched on the forum to find Dingo's recommendation of the mini antenna. Looks like I'll be spending more money before we even take delivery of the truck. The shorty does look much better though...
Dingo
Dingo rocks. He has made me spend a ton of money, though.
Manish R. Patel
Cravenspeed is a good company for these, I bought one for my Xterra some years ago, solid product with excellent reception.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Dingo had mentioned Cravenspeed in another thread. So, in your experience, is the antenna indeed brush and carwash proof?
