candurin
Yeah, Dingo has similar HIDs in his edge. REALLY tempting!!!
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Are these specific to the 11-13 Edges or will they work for prior years as well? I would really like to have a dual intensity option: 1 for "regular" light level (backing up in a parking lot etc where really don't need much light), and 1 for "intense" light level for situations as illustrated above. kc300c
Mine are now 35w. You still have them on the "Blind-The-Tailgater" switch?
candurin
The rear housings can handle 35w hids??? Hmmm. Which kit?
thirdgenlxi
You still have them on the "Blind-The-Tailgater" switch? Ohh man that's an EXCELLENT idea!! Why didn't I think of that sooner?? LOL
HyPer
The rear housings can handle 35w hids??? Hmmm. Which kit? They can for a little while, I tested a 35w(actual draw: 42w)and I pulled the bulb after 2min and the plastic inside of housing had that tacky feel, like the plastic was starting to get soft. There's not really a plug 'n play option for dual intensity HIDs, as there isn't enough room in the hole of housing. Hole is only maybe 3/4" in diameter, so really limited. Normally cutting a larger hole wouldn't be an issue, except the back of housing is recessed right where the reverse socket goes, so you're limited in space. Short of doing a projector reverse light, you're pretty much stuck with a single brightness HID as the ultimate lighting option. Now there is a way to do a switching HID, so that it illuminates the ground when backing up, then hit a switch and it illuminates everywhere.....but it requires using a bolt-in adapter plate. We're just getting into that, so it'll be a while before they're hitting the assembly line.
Dingo
I have pics, but I don't feel like blurring out my tag on my phone. I'll put one up later. And the switch is just a momentary pushbutton, a relay, and a diode.
wannabang
Dingo, tell us how to do such a thing. Some bright light would be nice for those really dark locations with the windows tinted. Bright ones in a lit parking lot might be necessary if you happen to be next to a suburban or lifted truck so a car coming down the same isle could see you before you start moving. Dingo
Left is 15W, Right is 35W. Here's both at 35W. All three pics were within a 15 minute period with a camera phone that obviously compensates for the brightness.
thirdgenlxi
Dang that's crazy bright! I really need to get something like this.... I'm blind as a bat and can't see s**t at night, especially backing up... pretty much just hope my park aid beepers are working and go slow, haha. Def gonna look into these...
