gfhii
Well, they don't even have to sell it to you. They can come back tomorrow and say that they can't get the vehicle. What else they can change depends on the wording in the contract. Not trying to scare you, just to warn you to be a little skeptical until the deal is done. And you might want to have a backup plan in case this deal falls through. Hmmm, That sounds pretty fishy. I have a contract. Down Payment. Agreement on terms. I am certainly committed, so the contract must be somewhat binding in both direction, I would think, for it to be valid. Hmmm....I'm not sure what the law stipulates in these cases, but it seems as if we have an agreement, and I would have a basis for a suit if they did not fulfill their end of the bargain....but then, I don't have a lot of experience with car dealers! It may not be as much a "contract" as an "offer to buy". Check the fine print. I'd be more worried about them trying to add things that you weren't expecting - regardless of what your contract says. Just be aware of the possibility and keep your eyes open. Hopefully it works out.
Grey
I will be interested to know how it went on the purchase, assuming you get the vehicle. Pretty bold of the dealer to guarantee a delivery date when the BAMR and Limited (SYNC) are "High" risk for scheduling. Sounds like you got a great deal. Good luck. Let us know. Well, technically, its a "guarantee" or I can back out of the purchase...but who would want to, right? Well, I must say, my balloon is a little deflated, but I am hoping that my "contract" os just that!! Anyway, I'll let you all know how it goes! jmitchell
According to Kelley Blue Book, your vehicle invoices for $33,721. This includes AWD Limited with Nav and Vista roof as the only options. This price also includes the destination charge of $705. Therefore, they have offered to sell you an '08 Limited right at invoice. Like some others have said, be careful when you sign the final paperwork because I have a hard time believing they don't have any Dealer & Handling or advertising fees. I just ordered my '08 Limited at invoice but there was a $470 local (may change per area) advertising fee that the dealer said is included on top of the invoice pricing you can obtain online. Plus they charged me $490 Dealer & Handling fees which are basically to allow the salesman some profit, IMO. I was extremely upset when they threw the advertising fee at me, but I can live with the D & H fee. So basically, if I get $1000 rebate near X-mas time, I will get my Edge at Invoice after rebates and before taxes. Not bad considering these are hot items right now and the 2008's haven't even hit the lots yet here.

The advertising fee is added by Ford and it is paid by the dealership to the local dealer association. The dealer does not keep any of that money. It is a legitimate part of all invoices. So don't feel bad about that one. Invoice plus a $490 doc fee is still a heck of a bargain.

Possibly - But not the deal I have via email, or the written contract I signed, so I would fight it! Well, we'll see, right? akirby
Ripoff!!! Big Ripoff!!! If you pay an advertising fee and "dealer and handling fee", you are getting ripped off. I've never paid any such thing. The dealer and salesman already get a profit from the sale. If they added those fees, and you pay them, I hope they use some K-Y jelly first. Try paying attention. The advertising fee is included in the actual dealer invoice but is not included in the invoice prices you see on edmunds or kbb. If the dealer charges you dealer invoice plus a doc fee then you ARE paying the FDFA assessment - you just didn't know it because it wasn't a separate line item. It's not a ripoff. The dealer does not keep any of that fee. The doc fee or handling fee is a ripoff but almost every dealer charges one on non Z/X/A plan sales. Just count it as part of the profit. I guess you don't pay destination charges or sales tax either.

jmitchell
There we go, that answers it! Since you are friends with the owner, I can see why you get special perks. I too am friends with a Chevy dealer owner who cut me a sweet deal on my '07 Tahoe. I basically paid the KBB invoice price for my Tahoe and nothing else (except taxes obviously). He was able to waive all D&H and advertising fees. That was why I was a little upset with these charges from the Ford dealer. I guess we get spoiled in some departments, but it catches up with us somewhere else. I still feel pretty good about my purchase of the '08 Limited for close to invoice. I'm sure they make a lot more money off some of the other Edges on their lot.
akbob
OK, pulled the trigger and ordered the following: 2008 AWD Limited (30,134) Panoramic Roof (1186) White Sand Tri-Coat Paint (421) Trailer Tow Package (336) Rubber Mats (47) Cargo Management System (55) Sirius Satellite Radio (166) 5 Gals gas (yeah, they charge you!) (15.50) FDAF Assessment Fee (458) Dest and Del (705) + $150 over invoice GRAND TOTAL $33,673.50 not including tax and license, doc fee MINUS any applicable rebates or incentives at the time of delivery The gas and FDAF fee kinda makes the warm and fuzzy part of this transaction disappear. The salesman (as well as the sales manager) did say two things that I would like some feedback on from those of you in the know: 1. We cannot guarantee the final price of your order until the car is delivered because Ford may raise the price of an option or something and we will have to pass that on to you??????? Of course, I am immediately suspicious of this since I signed a contract for the above pricing. I figure if they pull that at time of delivery, then the gloves will come off then. Have any of you heard of a dealer doing this? 2. I wanted them to apply the current rebates/incentives but they again said I would get whatever was being offered by Ford at the time of delivery. Why is it I can buy an unbuilt house for several hundred's of thousands of dollars, settle on the price with the builder, take possession 6 months later and not have to worry about the price of lumber going up? Geez, this stuff is exactly why I hate buying a car. What an amazing alien world the whole purchasing of a motor vehicle has become. And they wonder why car dealers have a bad rep with the general public! Overall, we are looking forward to our new Edge in 6-10 weeks. Hopefully, nothing will come up to queer the deal. Thanks again, in advance, for shedding any helpful light on this.
