TheWilldog
Ok, so this weekend I learned that replacing a dead battery screws up the 6-disc changer in a 2008 Ford Edge SEL. Apparently this is a common occurance. However, all the suggested solutions seem to entail getting the dealer to replace the player under warranty. Well, I'm outta warranty. Are there any other solutions? A few people suggest unplugging the radio and plugging it back in. I'll try that, but first I have to ask, how do I get to the radio? Does the sliver plastic trim simply pop off? Or is there another route I need to follow? Thanks
TheWilldog
This is what I'm talking about, the silver trim. How is it supposed to come off? http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll204/thewilldog/Edge/IMG_2424_zps37b71255.jpg Edited January 13, 2013 by TheWilldog
autom8r
Willdog: I've never removed it, but it seems like there are clips in each corner of the bezel. It looks like the A/C grilles are part of the assembly too. Here is a drawing for your use. The manual says that the bezel is removable using only a "non-marring" pry tool. Good luck. Thanks, that graphic showed me exactly where to remove the bezel. I tried to remove the stereo as well but it doesn't to want to come out. I removed the four 7mm hex screws holding the face in place, but on the right side it feels like there's another point of attachment that I'm not seeing. Can someone fill me in? *Update* nevermind, just had to really tug on it to get it unstuck. Edited January 21, 2013 by TheWilldog
TheWilldog
Next step, trying to extract the CDs: http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll204/thewilldog/Edge/IMG_2427_zpsc9f5bc17.jpg I've removed the radio from the vehicle, detached the face plate, and removed the top of the radio cage. I can now see the CDs in the unit, but I don't see a good way to remove them without breaking something. Is there a proper way to remove them? Or will any attempt further damage the player? CHANCES
I have had the same thing happen to me a few months ago when my battery died and I had to get a jump start. My CD player suddenly stopped working since then. Has not worked since. This really sucks, I can't listen to music and all 6 CDs have been stuck in it since then. I inquired about fixing it from a Ford Dealer and the guy basically told me it's not worth fixing I should replace it. This is awful and seems to have happened to a lot of people. I think Ford should provide some sort of compensation for this or check into this issue. It's not fair to not be able to enjoy all the features of your vehicle or having to pay hundreds to fix a CD player because it can't tolerate your vehicle's battery dying. I'm disappointed
akirby
Stuff breaks. That's why they make warranties. I'm sure you can find a used unit for a reasonable price. Have you tried pulling the fuse for the cd player to reset it? Do you have sync? If so you can rip your cds to a usb drive.
