Left Side Signal, Brake Light, Mirror Not Working

I noticed my left-side turn signal was blinking fast which was apparently an indication that my tail light was out. After checking, sure enough, I discovered that my rear left-side signal and tail light were no longer working. Around that time, I also noticed that my left-side mirror could not be automatically adjusted anymore. A mechanicly-inclined friend checked the bulbs in the left-rear tail light and he said they were fine, which means there is an electrical or fuse problem somewhere. Can someone help me determine what may be wrong and possibly provide an range as to how much this might cost?

Background: I have never been in an accident or towed anything. I've never needed any work on it. I have moved a few times and it has been loaded down heavily on those occasions but that would maybe be half a dozen times total. I lived in a major city during the winter in 2010 and it was parked outside that entire time (5 months). That city is known for bad winters and had one of its worst that year. I was thinking maybe the salt and chemicals used may have played a part. I have 47,000 miles on it and everything else is working fine.

I'm concerned that if I take it somewhere and don't know what to say, I may get taken advantage of because I am female. I appreciate any guidance given, thank you.

This may be complicated.

You have a limited, which means you [probably?] have memory mirrors. These mirrors are more complicated to troubleshoot than the non-memory ones. More than likely, it is a problem with the switch on the driver door. The next thing to check would be the mirror (bad motor or motors) and lastly the driver's seat module [DSM] where the "memory" for the mirror positions is stored. There is a remote possibility that the wiring may be at fault because of corrosion since it went through one bad winter, though I doubt this would be the culprit.

Find a good independent mechanic. Give him the wiring diagram attached to this email. Worst case go to the stealer and have them read the fault codes stored on the DSM. The DSM module itself is beneath the driver's seat.

My money's on the switch or the mirror. Since the right side is operative, there may be nothing wrong with the DSM.

Good luck.
