mgmosh
Hey everyone. New Edge owner here!! We picked up our Edge on Monday. It had been on order since mid-August. It was a long wait!! So far been loving it! It replaced my 2000 Chevy Blazer LT, which I ordered new back in 99. It had 68,000 miles when I sold it in August. So far I am not missing it. We ordered a 2013 Edge Limited AWD (White Platinum Metallic Tri Coat and the Sienna interior). The switch to the Sienna (chocolate brown) interior was a last minute decision. Sure am glad a made the change. It looks awesome! Our Edge has the 302A package which includes the adaptive cruise. Also ordered it with the towing package and the 20” chrome wheels. Because I liked the rocker panels on the EcoBoost models, I ordered the rocker panels for the EcoBoost and had the dealer replace them. I’ll upload some pictures soon, but need to clean up the Edge first (it’s been raining). Also added the WeatherTech floor mats and cargo liner. Have ordered a bug shield and will put that on to see if I like how it looks. Next, I am going to be doing the complete LED light conversion that Dan Smith from DAYTIME Brightlites offers. I’ve got the pricing, just need to place the order. If anyone lives around Iowa and is thinking of purchasing a new Edge, Union Auto is the place to go! It’s a small Ford dealership where you work directly with the owner. He sold me the Edge at dealer invoice and I got to keep all the rebates. He even brought up the Ford ordering system and showed me all the pricing and information as he placed the order. I’ve never had a dealer do that before. Typically they treat all this information as top secret and they seem to be unwilling to show it to the buyer!! With Union Auto, it was smooth and quick. No arguing/fighting to get your price. And he kept me informed on the status of the order. I knew exactly where the Edge was in the process the whole time. Hope to see you all around the forums. ls973800
Congrats on the new Edge! I am very interested to see what the new rocker panels will look like on your Limited. I was at the Texas State Fair earlier this week where they also have a car show as a part of the fair. I was looking at some of the Edges and noticed immediately how much nicer the rocker panels on the Sport model looked (body color vs the black on mine). It also seemed to be a different shape than mine, but there were no Limited's there to compare against. Is the SEL also body color or a different shape? It also seemed to be a different shape than mine, but there were no Limited's there to compare against. Is the SEL also body color or a different shape? The SEL and Limited have the same molding and its black. The molding is different based on whether the Edge has the V6 engine or the EcoBoost engine. The Sport has a totally different shape and is body colored. The trim is also very expensive. The Sport molding would total somewhere around $2,500. Then you would have the cost of painting on top of that. It come primed only. I was able to get the EcoBoost molding and all the needed accessories for $530. The EcoBoost trim is the back plastic, but instead of wrapping down underneath (3.5L V6 models – SEL & Limited), it flares out at the bottom almost like a mini running board. I think the EcoBoost molding provides a little more protection as it sticks down further in the front and thus will help stop rocks from being kicked up by the front tires. Plus again, I think it looks nicer. Here are a couple of pictures of Edges that my dealer sold before I ordered mine. You can see the difference. The red Edge is an EcoBoost model and has the trim that I added to my Edge.

ls973800
I saw the rocker panel like what you are showing on the red Edge. I could almost swear I saw the same shape but in the body color (White) on another Edge at the show. I'm going back again Saturday and will take a closer look to see what I actually saw! That was the first impression I got when I saw it, it looked almost like mini running boards. Very nice addition to your Edge!

The Sport rocker panels are painted and flare out similar to the EcoBoost molding, but I think the shape is slightly different. Although I have only seen a Sport in pictures, so could be wrong. Maybe it is exactly the same as the EcoBoost trim except it's smooth and painted. So you are probably right with what you saw. If you wanted to replace the trim on your Limited with the trim from the Sport, you would pay through the nose, because not only would you have to replace the rocker panels, you would also have to replace the trim just above them. Your bumpers wouldn’t match either as they would still have black on the bottom. Edited October 18, 2012 by mgmosh
ls973800
mgmosh, could you list the parts needed and part numbers of all the pieces needed to add the EcoBoost moldings to my Limited? I am interested in doing this. From what I've found on line, it looks like I need the moldings for each side, and 2 end caps for each side (total of 4). Not sure if the end caps really need to be replaced or if they are different than what I have now. Probable need some replacement clips, screws, etc also, correct? Might be a nice project to work on this fall. Thanks.
blankster
I suspect the revised moldings on the EcoBoost may be related to aerodynamics than functionality. Also notice the revision on the trim in front of the front tire. Again probably for aerodynamic reasons. There was a big push to deliver 30MPG for the EcoBoost which is why it was delayed 1 year (i read that somewhere). If you look up the initial announcement of the 2011 model the ECOBoost is included. Might be a nice project to work on this fall. Thanks. I don't have the full part numbers, but below is what I put together for my Ford dealer. The part number listed is from FordParts.com. If you go to FordParts.com, you can look at the schematics for these items. My Ford Dealer ordered the parts for me and installed them. Labor was $91.00. There is just one front end cap on each side. The rear end caps are built into the rocker panel molding. The rocker panel molding has plastic clips built in. There are 11 of them running the length of the molding. The existing molding will have to be pried out and more than likely you will break the clips, but that doesn't matter as the new rocker panels come with the plastic clips. All you need are the 2 clips for the front end caps. You wouldn't even need to order new screws if you’re okay with using the existing ones. I ordered new, just to be on the safe side. mgmosh
Sorry about the formatting. Let's try this again. Oh and the shipping line shouldn't be there cause my dealer didn't charge me any shipping. Edited October 19, 2012 by mgmosh

mgmosh
Well, this weekend I finished up my LED light conversion project. Bought the full set of interior and exterior lights from Dan at Daytime BrightLites. I am very happy with both the product and customer service!!! Couldn't believe how easy the installation process was. The only part that made me nervous was splicing into one of the wires for the front headlight. The new vertical running lights really does add a unique look to the Edge. Also, much prefer the white light of the LED’s for the puddle lights, license plate lights, and the interior lights. kc300c
Glad you like my lights. Makes a huge difference, doesn't it? Just want to clarify your point about "splicing" into the headlight wire. A better term would be "tapping". There isn't any wire cutting. The connection of the two wires is made by using a snap-on connector that comes with the kit.this connector is very commonly used and is quite safe. But I can see where a person may have a concern, especially if a they are not that familiar with them. Enjoy your lights, my friend.

And it was very easy to do using the included connector. Yeah, the vertical lights really stand out. Only problem is I'm inside driving and thus can't enjoy them!!! kc300c
I can relate. I'm always looking forward to stopping at a stoplight so I can see the light's reflection on the rear end of the car in front of me.
