fold flat passenger seat gone!!!!!

Recommended Posts

We received a 2013 Edge Limited as a loaner while my wife's Explorer is in for repairs. Looking over the Edge today I was very surprised to see that Ford did away with the fold flat passenger seat. It seemed so innovative when I first saw it that I wondered why all from passengers seats didn't do this? I've used this countless times in my Sport to haul over sized lumber and long items and was sad to see it missing. Does anyone know when it was dumped? Like I said, my 11 Sport has it, but our 11 Explorer does not.

It was eliminated when they upped the number of powered functions on the passenger seats of the 2012 Edge Limited. That extra powered adjustability nixed the fold-flat ability :)

What an absolute shame. You figure they could have come up with a small lever to unlock the gears and allow the backrest to fall forward. I mean what gets used more? A seat that can fold or a seat adjustment that will be set and forgotten about... Oh well.

My wife had that function when she had a Ford Five Hundred years ago. When she got her MKS, and realized that she no longer had it, she asked me "what kind of piece of crap did you get me"? :hammer_self: Too bad they couldn't incorporate it in a multi position power seat. Her Five Hundred only had 2 way power on the passenger side.

Wonder if Ford did a Customer survey or if it was simply a "Management" decision. At one time when it came to buying a new car Ford was the preferred choice. This sort of change, almost slipped in, is the sort of thing together with a couple of other issues have eliminated Ford as my choice of preference. The latest sales numbers show Ford (and the other two NA Manufacturers) dropping against the imports. You have to wonder if I am not the only one.

I'm gad they did away with the fold flat drivers seat. Kinda of hard to hit the pedals.

Great reply cjd3! Love the humor. I use it as a desk for my laptop when I travel. Not while I'm driving though. OK, on a rare occassion I have used it while I was driving. Would that be considered "texting & driving"?
