cmillz1331
So I noticed this noise when turning dating back to last fall actually. A lady backed into my front passenger side wheel in a parking lot and didn't seem to do any damage. Later while driving I noticed a loud clunk sound when turning, both ways! It usually happens when I have to make sharp or quick turns where the wheel is turned fairly far. I thought maybe the problem would go away but it hasn't. It hasn't gotten any worse but hasn't gotten better either. When I had it up at a Ford dealer for some other work, they said they couldn't replicate the problem....I drove it home and it happened at least a couple times. The problem helper on NTB.com said it could be any of these things: 1) Loose/worn tie rod ends 2) Worn or dry ball joints 3) Axle assembly failure... I have no knowledge or experience with this area so can anyone help or has anyone had this problem? I would greatly appreciate it. I need new tires before winter so I'll ask them to check it out but I don't want to get ripped off either.....Thanks!

cmillz1331
So the sound has greatly decreased since I recently had an alignment last weekend. I have only heard it a few times compared to multiple times a day like before. But it still occurs....the guy said my alignment was really far off to the right so I thought maybe something was just rubbing but it's still happening while my car doesn't pull or anything anymore....The problem has been helped but not completely fixed
UnfocusedEdge
Might have damaged the cv joint. Hard to tell just by looking at it. Edited November 8, 2012 by UnfocusedEdge

UnfocusedEdge
I found advise getting it checked out. I had one fail on my focus and could move the car on its own power. Not sure what would happen with AWD.

fixitall123
Just cured my klunk. It was the ball joint that was loose.
