cmillz1331
So I know people have had a ford dealer or a shop paint parts on their edge to match the body color but I was wondering if anyone has painted parts themselves and got it to match (at least to the naked eye)? I'm looking to scuff up some of the small chrome on the car and paint it black but need that glossy look to match the body, not flat or matte. any help is appreciated. thanks
akirby
It can be done if you use good quality spray paint with base coat and clear coat and wetsand it. I painted the aftermarket keyless entry surround to match my daughter's Ingot Silver Focus and it turned out great using spray paint from paintscratch.com. Of course then she totalled it and the new one is dark grey so I had to remove all of the paint and make the plastic shiny again so it matched the new color. I think you may have to do more to the chrome than just scuff it to get the paint to bond properly but the paint itself shouldn't be a problem. cmillz1331
So you use that before you paint over the chrome? Any steps to it?

Other than what dingo suggested, how else could I get the paint to bond properly? I want to do this right the first time ha but I will also probably get that product that he suggested too

cmillz1331
what clear coat should I get? I have paint already...just need the clear coat finish
Edgieguy
since we dont know what kind of paint you have already, youll need to get a clear coat that is compatible with the primer and base (color) paint.
cmillz1331
how do you know which clear coats are compatible? and do you suggest any paint, primer, clear coat combo?
akirby
how do you know which clear coats are compatible? and do you suggest any paint, primer, clear coat combo? You buy them at the same time from the same place. I think you're in way over your head here and should get someone to do it for you. cmillz1331
My friend is doing it for me, I just need to get the products for him...haven't talked to him in a few days so needed some help. but thanks
shantz
as long as you stick within a certain brand, their products should be cross-compatible. It becomes an issue when you paint with a Du-Pont, then clear with a BASF - They don't like that...
