ChrisM
Just bought a '12 Edge with the BAMR. I have looked at the Yakima tower rack thread, but wondering if anyone has transported a stand up paddleboard on this roof using some other method, and how that's worked out thanks
LBE
Soft racks work just fine with this roof.
Ray Lewis
I got mine installed last week. $$$, but worth every penny! I'm double decking two Jimmy Styks 11.5' boards. I've got excellent clearance between the open BAMR and bottoms of the locking aero Whispbars. Next step will be to plastidip the aluminum whispbars black to match the rail and towers.
rwolson
Nice rack setup! How do you like the Whisperbars? Quiet? BTW, great color on your car. I'm still using Thule rectangular bars to transport kayaks. My next car I'm going with Aerobars. Here's hoping the next gen Ford Edge sports a BAMR AND real roof rails to attach roof racks versus drilling holes into the car roof for inserts. I just don't trust the inserts and caulking to prevent water leaks.
Ray Lewis
When I went to Rack and Road I asked them to tell me what the best setup would be. I've seen Thule and Yakima setups on Edge Sports. My only criteria: they do the installation, aero bars, permanent rail, and as close to factory look as possible. I could've gone a cheaper route and used the door attachments. The wife gave me the go ahead to spend the scratch on the best set up. The bars are reasonably quiet. I do hear wind noise when the roof is open (more reason to turn up the stereo). I've been told that the aero bars are significantly quieter than the regular round or square bars. The Yakima pads are the final touch in making it all come together. I used the rack with our boards Saturday. We paddled 6.5 miles and I couldn't be happier!
rwolson
I do agree, the rack looks a lot better with a permanent roof rail than door clamps. Hopefully, the next Edge the designers learned a few things and listened to the customer.
surfer68
2013 Edge Sel, Tri-Coat Platinum with Appearance Package..... I had THULE racks installed with Aero Bars [the silver like bars look great.. In my opinion a nice accent....... No noise ... I either surf with a 9'0" or 8'0" - Easy on with ONE Thule strap.. Tight and no freeway noise at all. Installed by RACKSOLID in Santa Monica, California. Under $500.. but well worth the cost... Dealer said racks were not available for the Edge with Vista Roof.... Then the other dealer quoted me a price that exceeded $600
