Joab Dellinger
I looked in the owners manual and saw it said Mercon V ATF. I went to Advance Auto Parts and e dude went and got it for me. I paid and left. Then when I looked at the bottle it said Transmission Fluid. I know that sometimes trans fluid can be used in power steering, but I got nervous and didn't want to put it in if it wasn't the right stuff. I'm actually having an issue where there is NO power steering fluid in the resivour and it's going into Fordin the a.m. But I have to get it there obviously. I wants to make sure what I had was the correct stuff. I searched all over Internet and couldn't find a thing about it.
c_bova
yes some power steering systems take automatic transmission fluid. I'd say a bigger problem you might have is an air bubble in the system. Edited August 14, 2012 by c_bova
akirby
I looked in the owners manual and saw it said Mercon V ATF. Guess what ATF stands for? Automatic Transmission Fluid. ATF and power steering fluid are just thin oils. Lots of manual transmissions also use ATF rather than gear oil because it yields better fuel economy.
