chuckdonline
Just bought a lightly used 2013 Edge SEL and I'm having the same problem. There is an S on the shift pattern with the +/- buttons on the side of the shifter but it automatically goes into manual mode without touching the shift buttons. The Ford dealer is telling me that Sport Mode was an option because the manual says (if equipped) by the description. It was my understanding that it was standard on all 2013 and newer vehicles. All the other vehicles I test drove had it so I did not even think to check because I saw the S on the shift pattern. chuckdonline
Just got off the phone with a very nice young lady from the Ford customer service help line and see tells me my vehicle should have sport mode. She is going to send the information to the service manager at the dealer so hopefully this will get things moving.
akirby
It wouldn't have the S or the buttons on the shifter if it wasn't supposed to have it.
normcloutier
Wow. Glad I surfed the site tonight. I have a 13 SEL and my S mode is fully manual. Nothing shifts unless you press the + or - buttons. It will downshift to first when you come to a stop but that's it. I will have to give it a thorough test tomorrow and see what's up. normcloutier
My manual states a sport mode if equipped and a select shift if equipped. Is it possible to have select shift without sport mode? I have the S on the shift indicator beside the shifter and the + - buttons on the side. omar302
I think the base model didn't get the select shift.other models, SEL, Limited & Sport all have select shift & sport mode (2013+).
normcloutier
Can anyone with a Canadian 13 SEL AWD confirm that their transmission will shift with the selector in S without touching + and - button? I took delivery on my Edge in May so it was an early build. Is this something that was maybe caught early on and changed on later builds? normcloutier
Just confirmed on my Edge that when shifter is placed in S, transmission does not shift. Is there a TSB for this? Looks like I'll have to contact Ford.
normcloutier
Nice man at Ford Canada says that my Edge is supposed to have Sport mode. Off to book some service I guess.
omar302
Good luck. Keep us updated & how they fix it.
normcloutier
I think I posted this elsewhere but I had my sport mode fixed a while ago. They reflashed the PCM. Wow, what a difference. Even without using sport mode, there is a huge gain in performance. I always thought my edge was sluggish. I was told once that it was because I have 20" wheels on a SEL. Don't know why that would make any difference. Now driving in D is like using S and driving in S is just awesome. If your transmission goes directly to manual shift when putting the selector in S, HAVE IT FIXED. You won't regret it.
