larry91403
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed but I searched for XM and got nothing... Is it possible to swap the sirius receiver for an XM one? I know this probably sounds silly since it's the same company now but I had better service with XM. My guess is that the satellites that it uses are better. Thanks! Larry
Tacyon
The reason why you might be having trouble with this one is that they're considered the same company as of July 25, 2008. That being said there are technical differences between the two such as receiver hardware. With the Edge and its Sony premium sound system it's so tied into the radio and or MFT that there would not be a way to switch it. You could however ignore it and get XM in car receiver and listen thru it. But I would put this to you, why? You can virtually the same programming from either. Save the differences like NFL vesus MLB or Stern vesus Opie & Andy or Martha versus Opra. Ok so there are some programming differences ... but still ... in my opinion, less than a dozen of them are worth the subscription. IMO. timf
Although they are the same company and broadcast the same programming, they still transmit using two different networks of satellites and repeaters. Depending on your location, one may provide better reception than the other. This appears to be what the OP is talking about. Unfortunately, there is no way to switch the OEM unit from Sirius to XM and have it work natively. You would need to purchase a separate XM receiver and tie that into the stereo, but it would not be the seamless integration that the OEM unit provides. larry91403
Thank you Trayon and Tim for your replies! Yes, this is about reception, and not programming. Are there any known ways to fix the reception issues? Changing of the antenna? Known issues? It's driving me crazy. I never had these issues with XM. Pinger
I have a 08 Edge that I just purchased and it has an aftermarket XM radio installed with no subscription and a portable one out of my old car with subscription..question is can I take my chip out and insert it into the one in the 08 Edge and will it work? I hate to take the radio covers off just to see if it will. Thanks Pinger
Dingo
Just call them and switch the subscription.
Pinger
Well I took the glove box out to clean the cabin A/C filter and it accessed the chip for the xm radio so I switched the chip and it worked..Now when I put my portable in my Motorhome all I have to do is remove the chip and install it in my portable XM radio. They must not be married to the receiver like the sat, tv receivers are..
