2011 Limited "Door Ajar" warning always on

Recommended Posts

Reposting this from the 2011 section to get some more views. Cheers!

What's up everybody :)

I've got a 2011 Limited and just recently the Door Ajar warning will not turn off despite closing the door with good force or opening and closing multiple times. It would appear the Door Ajar switch is stuck in the "door open" position.

Does anybody have any info on where to find or access this switch? Dealer wants $500 for the repair! Unfortunately I'm out of warranty as I do quite a bit of driving for work.

I've done some quick reading about this issue and found that the switch is part of the latch mechanism? Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks so much!

Ps. Here's the Edge enjoying some Summer fun.

I recently had the same problem with my 2011. Mine was still covered under warranty. I don't know the cost, but I do know that the dealer had to take the inside door panel off to replace, and it took them 2-3 hours to do it. When I got the vehicle back, there was a big gap between the panel and the door, and I was not amused. I could stick my little finger in it. Drove a rental Nissan Rogue home that night while they tried again. It looks better now, but still isn't as snug as the other three doors.

I just put a reed switch in parallel this weekend. Super easy to do, costs like 5 bucks and will be a whole lot easier to replace if it ever goes bad. But these switches typically last forever, unlike the Ford switch that was replaced previously. Just if you do it make sure you pick the dark green with violet strip, not the lime green.
