Limited59
I'm getting the itch for a new vehicle again and was doing a little research. I am quite happy with my Edge still but only have 4,000 miles aftter 11 months of ownership. Nevertheless, I'm always keeping my options open for bigger and better things. I've been looking at MKXs as the prices are pretty good with the Employee Pricing discount they have right now. I haven't gone to the a Lincoln dealership yet... the nearest one is about an hour's drive away. I'm interested in improving on the already excellent Edge with a cushier ride (I'm assuming), quieter interior and the other options you cannot get on the Edge. I was considering taking a look at a '13 Sport to see if the 3.7L was worth making the switch but in looking at the brochure I see you can't get HIDs or the radar cruise system and that the passenger seat still has manual recline. I find that strange. In any event, I also noticed in the brochure they refer to the transmission as having a "6-Speed SelectShift Automatic Transmission with Sport Mode" the Sport also mentions this but adds "with Paddle Shift Activation". Anyone know what that means? Are they referring to the ability to shift gears manually via the button on the shifter? Also of note (Canadian 2013 brochure btw) is an SEL Appearance Package: "SEL Appearance Package includes unique leather-trimmed seats with grey Alcantara suede perforated inserts, 20" painted black aluminum wheels with machined faces, unique headlamp and tail lamp treatment, body-colour grille and floor mats with logo (requires 201A)" Has anyone purchased one with this package, or encountered one on the street? jsjs1
I've seen a 2013 SEL w appearance package and may be my next ride. Its sweet and gets me closer to the Sport edition w/o sacrificing gas mileage and the 20's are good enough for me. Also the paddle shifters are on the steering wheel-unneccessary in my oppinion but to reach their own.
JOEHIO
Paddle shift activation are paddles on the steering wheel to manually control shifts. I thought about a Edge Sport, then checked out the MKX, and wound up getting the MKX (2012) last November. I've been very happy with it, and like the Sport, it has the 3.7 engine. Probably the nices features the MKX has is heated and cooled front seats, and heated rear seats. I also like the power tilt/telescopic steering wheel. Shut the car off, the drivers set goes back, and the steering wheel goes up and in, to allow easier exit out of the vehicle. Start the car back up, and the seats and wheel return to your preset. The "X" also has a higher grade leather on the seats, and other interior surfaces. Also has a few other features not available with the Edge. Either one is a great choice, depends if you want to spend the extra bucks on the MKX.
Limited59
^ Do you know if the MKX has a better ride and is substantially quieter inside than the Edge? I have read that the Sport is encumbered by the huge wheels in terms of performance. To be honest, I'd be fine with an MKX with the 18" polished aluminum wheels... I'm not a 'wheels' man lol. Love the idea of power telescoping steering wheel as well as the cooled seats. Being over 6' tall my seat is already almost all the way back so Easy Exit isn't something I'd use. Also I really like the 'Bridge of Weir" leather on the seats. I remember them being quite cushy when I sat in one at the Toronto Auto Show last winter. Love the idea of a heated steering wheel as well as the real wood trim. I understand the MKX will be all-new for MY 2014 but I'm not too thrilled with the thought of a 2.7L V6 (twin turbo?) that is rumoured to be the engine. I think maybe I should wait until more details are released about the next gen before I make a decision to buy either a new one or a 'leftover' 2013. Gotta be honest... I'm not liking the trend of engines becoming smaller in displacement and turbocharged. Direct Injection would be a good addition to the current V6 lineup IMHO.
