DVD, Phone book pics, and Pandora.

Recommended Posts

So I have had my 2011 Edge Ltd (Rapid Spec 302A + towing) Sitting in park, engine running:

1) If I insert a plain jane movie DVD in the appropriate slot, nothing. A few seconds later it spits it right back out. What am I missing ? What movie files type should I be able to play from a USB stick ?

2) I had a DroidX and stream via blue tooth Pandora to the system. However, there is no music info or album art. It always just reads, "recording3213746" (random number) and that is all I get. I thought that there was suppose to be much more integration between the two. Title, album art, artist, etc. What am I missing ?

3) Same DroidX, I can answer and make calls w/o problem. I can list and manipulate the phone book. However, the several pictures that I have associated to people in the address are not in the Edge's phone book. A re-download had no effect. What am I missing ? Is there a manual way to download pictures to the phone book in the Edge and assign them to phone book entries ?

Are you inserting a DVD into the CD slot in the audio console? That won't work for the obvious reasons... It's a CD player and not a DVD player. If you're putting it into the headrest DVD player, that will only play on the headrests not in the center MFT screen.

Pandora works fine for me through Bluetooth with control coming solely from my phone. I heard back when MFT was being introduced that an interface app was being prepared. Ford would have been the first to showcase this type of in car technology. But alas, everyone in the pack has beaten Ford to the punch and there are still no apps for MFT. It's a shame really, because had Ford hired a few good developers or partnered with Apple or Google instead of Microsoft, then we'd be looking at a completely different landscape.

Well ... I guess that as a systems engineer I get spoiled with all the latest and greatest toys ... we've had multi format DVD drives in everything for the last 5 years. Like the disappearance of the floppy drive, I've not seen a CD only drive for some time now. Yes, this was what I was doing and when it kicked it back out .... that was what i was expecting the answer to be. So what if any formats of video can it play from the USB ports that have been witnessed ? I no longer trust the propaganda.

My Pandora works as well via BT ... that is to say I can hear music (youtube.com/watch?v=dH7JBQ5cVRA - also look up rude boy) but as you've pointed out, all control is via the phone. I guess I was expecting more. So all they've done is give me BT versus 3.5 mm phone jack ...

The crazy thing is that sub $200.00 aftermarket units have been able to do what we're talking about for years. Why is it that when "they" decide to do something that "they" do it half arse'd and when it fails they say, "see, it was never very popular" when it was a flawed implementation that held it back. Sigh .. I must await till "they" wake up.

Your last sentence .... amen !

Side note and off my own topic ... check out the you tube linkage. Simply amazing and sounds great on a 1200watt system.
