SoCalEdge2012
Ya they fit the front map. Its a tight squeeze with the reflector though. Okay looking at it in the dark, it's not exactly pink. More like one is warm white and the other is bright white. Hopefully when the other 4 arrive I can find two that match. EDIT: Oh ya, they don't seem too terribly bright as map lights...I didn't get a chance to check them against the stock bulbs. kc300c
There can be a lot of color variation from one LED bulb to the next. Even if the bulbs came from the same production lot. For this reson, I test each bulb and pair up matching bulbs before sending them out.
smora
socaledge2012, just installed the leds on the map light. I had three extra pairs and found two leds that matched, two that were bright white. Yeah only difficulty was to squeeze the LED through the reflector but other than that its a really easy process. They are brighter but not much brighter, but they are definitely better than the OEM bulbs.
kc300c
The Amazon LEDs you guys are using Are not the configuration to use in a ceiling mounted lamp that must bounce 50% of the light output off of a brushed aluminum reflector. There's a lot of light being lost. Use a a single faced LED array that only sends light in one direction. I'm going to be starting a map light custom retrofit soon. Have already talked to Prinz about evaluating my first prototype. I'm looking at possibly using a 1.5" X 2" LED panel custom mounted in each lamp. I will also be frosting the lenses to both diffuse the light evenly across the interior and also to help conceal the LED light source.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
How much do you think such a retrofit would cost? Interested.
PrinzII
There can be a lot of color variation from one LED bulb to the next. Even if the bulbs came from the same production lot. For this reson, I test each bulb and pair up matching bulbs before sending them out. Case in point, I got the puddle lamps from kc using 5K LEDs to match my HIDs. Even the license plate bulbs match accurately.
Dingo
Y'all are making this too complicated. Pop two of these in and be done. http://www.v-leds.com/5K-WHITE-3-CHIP-5-LED-p9722412-1-2.html
Weezer
These will also work. I originally intended to use these in the map lights, but they’re too long (interfered with the ON/OFF operation). But they fit fine in the license plate housing. http://www.amazon.com/9-SMD-White-5050-Light-Bulb/dp/B0047RZRFU
candurin
I'll simplify this (this is what worked for me) as this is turning into multiple LED thread, rather than just license plate ones. All my lights are 5K (or at least VERY close to it if not stated in the description). Here's what I have installed with ZERO issues (since May 2012)... License Plates: hhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047RV8WG/ Front Map Lights: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0063JGFRY/ Rear Cargo/Dome/Trunk lights: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061SHI7I/ Reverse LEDs: http://www.v-leds.com/5K-WHITE-19-LED-8W-HIGH-p9507296.html Puddle Lamps (I did the mod myself): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ZVZNPM/ Front Turn Signal Switchback LEDs: http://www.v-leds.com/5K-TYPE-2-DUAL-COLOR-p7114832.html I don't have photos of all the LEDs, but you'll see many other members have installed the same bulbs and did post pics (special thanks to kc300c who gave me the ideas for 92% of my mods!).
SoCalEdge2012
Candurin, thanks for breaking it down like that, I've been looking at most of those on amazon, debating if they'd fit are not. Good to know.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Found some 921 Creek-based LEDs on EBay. Similar to these, but from another seller: http://www.ebay.com/...b-/280993575923 Seem to be pretty bright, don't have a fair comparison with 921 incandescents, because those bulbs already had a lot of miles on them. The base did not sink in as deep as I would have liked, since the socket is quite tall comparatively speaking. Now to see about their longevity/durability in use. May replace other lights with LEDs, but they are more "continuous use" and I don't want to blind anyone behind me, stopping and turning, etc.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Got these lights a while ago and decided to try them out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140786483328?item=140786483328 Difference: New lights are front AND side firing, rated at 500 lumens. Old lights are forward firing only, 640 lumens. New ones also are a bit more wiggly in the socket, hope they don't decide to make a run for it
