Cdpratt69
Anyone run a hardwire all the way down the side pillars and down to the fuse box? I have the hardwire kit that can be purchased to go along with the escort and beltronics. It hooks into the side of the detector with a RJ45 plug and has both a power lead and a remote mute button with some LEDs. I wanted to do this rather than just tapping into the mirror or map light because I like the idea of a remote mute switch. I'm wondering if nine has blazed this path and has any advise for running wire along the headliner and then down the front pillar. Anyone take it's while doing it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
c_bova
I ran mine under the front headliner and down the pillar like you said, nothing much to it other than that.
fishx65
Cd, I took a look for you. I tapped into fuse# 37 (Climate control 10 amp) on my 2011 SEL. Been working fine for many months.
Platinum White
I made a bracket that attaches under the drivers side headliner using the center side visor mount screw. Couldn't get the suction cups to stick to the black rough part of the windshield. The detector wire is routed down the A pillar to a switched connection in the fuse box. Cdpratt69
I was able to easily get it done last night. C_bova was right. It did not require removal of any trim or removal of the headliner. There was tons of space to punch the wire up under the edge of the headliner and plenty of space between the rubber weather strip and the a-pillar trim to run the wire down to the fuse box. I have the direct wire power cord with the built in mute button and power indicator for both beltronics and escort radar detectors so it was never in my plan to do a direct wire tap to the mirror or headliner. Thanks for the suggestion Mr. mcclure but that setup such as done by kansas city 300c would not work for my situation.
Cdpratt69
Oh and by the way, fuse 37 was the one I chose before the suggestion fish. That's too funny. It's easy to get to for starters and then when I tested it I found that it only came on after the second push of the start button. That was good enuf for my purposes. For any interested I used the blend mount which can be found at blendmount.com. It mounts to the stem of the rear view mirror and then the radar detector sits just below the mirror. I LOVE it! I'll add a pic of it to my gallery soon.
splork
I just wanted to give this thread a bump! I finally got around to installing an escort detector and at first tried tying it to fuse 20 for the radio and found out that this would not work because the detector would never shut off. Fuse 37 did the trick, Thanks!
enigma-2
I have my Escort Passport Max II attached to a bracket under the mirror and wired into the rear-view mirror's electrical connector, with a harness. The harness cost between $20-$30 and only took a few minutes to wire. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006074LT8/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Powers on with the ignition and is on the delay when engine is turned off (or off immediately when a door is opened). Well satisfied with this setup. The idea of feeding a wire under the headliner, down through the pillers and through the spaghetti of wiring to the fuse box, where you need to jury rig a connection, never appealed to me. candurin
I did the same. A 6" length of phone cord (rj-11, if I recall) with a 1 amp in-line fuse and a blend mount. I really like the tidiness of my redline install. I am going to bite the bullet and get the direct escort live kit and I'll cleanly attach the escort live device to my mirror and make a smaller 6-pin phone cable for the escort live connection. splork
I was going to go that route but I like having the smartcord mute and program options. I have mine mounted just below the steering column which is incredibly accessible.
enigma-2
I was going to go that route but I like having the smartcord mute and program options. I have mine mounted just below the steering column which is incredibly accessible. I originally used the smartcord, switched over to using my cell phone after I started with the mirror tap.
