spacy73
Hi, I have installed a Kenwood CMOS-310 Multiview camera in front of my Edge. The picture form the camera comes on the display on MFT. Here is a short video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RVRfTLdUfw The first view is the backupcamera, the second is the frontcamera with Super wide view(190°). I can change the view with a button. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvVVwsXz0Dk In the next week I will make a little instructions for installation.

spacy73
Hi Guys, sorry for the delay, but the business comes first... :hyper: Here is the next part, the connection on the MFT. I have used a Kenwood CMOS-310, but you can use another aftermarket camera. The videosignal from the OEM camera on the Ford Edge is a simple FBAS Signal(no RGB). So you can use the input from the MFT without a interface. Connect the camera to ground and ignition. I used a relay with 2 changeover contacts. At rest the signal comes from the front camera, in reverse gear the signal comes from the rear camera. Precondition is, you must enable the "delay" in the rear camera menu on the MFT. The picture of the front camera comes as long as you drive less than 5 mph. You can find the connector C213 under the steering wheel. Connect the relay coil to ground and the other side to the cable for the reversing lamps. The cable is blue/white. You can find it in harness for the rear under the cover from the entry. Use a multimeter to find the right cable. If you have any question, there you go.
Edgieguy
Wonder of this could work with a Flir infrared camera.
wlepse
Wonder of this could work with a Flir infrared camera. I would think so if it had the same video signal. Spacy73...does the camera only work if the vehicle was previously in reverse? Seems like you would have to enable the input on MFT by going into reverse then when you go into drive the relay switches inputs.
tpm419419
I would think so wlepse otherwise everytime you slowed to a stop (stop sign) the camera would come on
wlepse
Yeah that is what I figured based off the wiring since he is piggybacking on the reverse input. While I wouldn't want it coming on every time you slow down I would like the ption to turn it on without going into reverse. I was thinking this might help the wife since after 9 months she still can't park it very well. But I guess to be honest either we'd have a button she have to hit to engage or put it in reverse. So for her the reverse thing is probably the easiest.
spacy73
Hi, here is the next part, the installation of the camera. This was the first place for testing. It's ok, but not very good. Then I considered the Ford logo detail. There are two pieces. The edge of the Ford logo is the same angle for the camera lens. I disassembled the camera body. Then I drilled with a tap drill a hole as big as the camera lens. The remaining space for the camera is carefully removed with a small cutter(Dremel). Then I have fixed the camera with tape and hot glue. Then the rest of the camera is sealed with Sikaflex. The camera from behind and from front. hkgroggy
Has anybody else done this? I have an Edge Sport with a rear camera and adding a front would be great. I purchased the Kenwood 310 but the instructions for the wiring piece is a bit confusing since this is not my forte. Any additional help with the wiring instructions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
dummptyhummpty
If you don't want to worry about the wiring part, the Lockpic should allow you to add a front camera: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/12547-install-lockpick-on-13-limited/
