Replacement Front Brake Cost

I was recently informed I had about 10 % of bake life left on my front brakes on my 2008 all wheel drive limited Edge and if I wanted them relaced it would cost me around $425.00. This price was from a dealer.

I told them to hold off and took it to local garage Ive used in the past that has been in business over 30 years.

They did the job for $150.00 and that included resurficing the rotors.

I was just wondering if the dealer does any thing different that would increase the cost that much? I realize dealers are usally higher, but this suprised me.

About the only thing different is that they charge more $$$.

Sometimes they charge you for new rotors instead of turning them and sometimes they include new or rebuilt calipers. Maybe they were quoting all 4 wheels instead of just 2? Or maybe they were just ripping you off in general.

Another reason to learn how to do these things and "DIY" for a third of the price... Hell for 425$x2 you could of done a BIG BOY BRAKE KIT, with Cross Drilled and Slotted rotors and some beefy ass pads!
