What made you choose your Edge?
MHOsborn replied to Edgy Girl's topic in Competing Crossovers & Vehicles
Edgy, Some of this you may recall from when we first bought our Edge at the end of May.....we're the ones who traded in our 2005 Murano for the Edge! We test drove the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda CX-9. I didn't care for the ride of the CX-7 (too stiff), plus it only had a 4-cylinder engine (albeit turbocharged). I liked the ride of the CX-9, but it felt underpowered...and the price was a bit more than I wanted to pay. I checked online very briefly and was intrigued with the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, but they were too pricey to even test drive. So...it came down to the two Mazda models and the Edge. My wife wanted the CX-7 because of the price, but, as I mentioned, I didn't like the ride. Actually, I had completely forgotten about the Edge until after our Mazda test drives...and we were already home when the "light bulb" went on and I remembered the Edge...so we ran out and test drove one. I loved the ride of the Edge, and the engine power felt just about perfect. The fit and finish of it seemed just fine to me (and still does, by the way). Compared pricewise to the two Mazdas, it fell right in between the CX-7 and CX-9. Again...I love the power and ride of the Edge. The navigation system's pretty cool, too, but not that different than the Murano's (which might have been a bit better, actually). Sure...there are some minor quibbles I have with the Edge...I had to turn the headrests around so my wife and I didn't constantly bump the backs of our heads against them as we drove. I, too, wish they'd have had a power liftgate for the 2007 model year...and wish the Sync system had been available. (I'm 6' tall, so the liftgate handle doesn't bother me...or my wife, who's 5'4"). I wish the seatbacks were power adjustable...I wish both cupholders were full size.... But....and I'll say it again....I think Consumer Reports got it wrong with the Edge! They seem to prefer the harsher rides of the Honda and Acura cars....I guess ride comfort doesn't matter much to them. -
I'll post pictures if/when I put them on...but, as yet, haven't ordered them. So far, no door dings!

Congratulations on your new Edge! Yours looks exactly like ours...we love the looks of our Edge in black.

Congratulations on your new Edge! I'm sure you'll love it, as most of us here love ours. There is a cargo cover available from Ford Accessories, but I don't think anyone in here has bought one yet (it's newly available). For me, it's not a necessity. I never used the one we had in our Murano prior to our Edge...and the back windows are dark enough that someone would really have to look closely to see anything back there. I guess you found out the hard way that the trailer package isn't standard on any Ford Edge model (at least...for the 2007 model year...don't know about the 2008 models yet). I have a truck when I need to haul something, so the trailer package didn't interest me. Again...welcome to the gang!

Edgy, I was wondering where you'd run off to! Glad to hear you had a great SC vacation and made it back home safe and sound. Our son just moved to Charleston last week, and said it's great there. Yes...the positive Edge posts continue here. My wife and I are amazed that we get more comments on our new Edge than any car we've ever owned in the past. My wife said today that someone passed the gas station she was filling the Edge up at, and the driver turned around and came back to her car. The woman commented on how cool-looking our black Edge is...she's got an Explorer she's thinking about trading in. Welcome back! Mike

Thanks for the advice....I'll let y'all know if I get comptroller approval on this deal.
-
Jim....congratulations on the impending family addition! Best regards, Mike

Wow....this is turning into a rather long thread, isn't it? As far as I can tell, from the posts here, I would need to have someone who's eligible for the A or D plan price the vehicle I want, then compare this price to what my dealer offers. It would appear that the D plan price, for example, is not a straight % off the sticker, so there's no way for me to determine the price on my own.
-
Hmmm....now I'm wondering if my dealer can actually give me a D-plan price, or if he's only trying to run a game on me.
-
Our SEL+ came with heated seats...but I sure do like that two tone interior of yours. However, I've also computed the odds of my comptroller (wife) approving an expenditure for the interior upgrade as nil. One can dream, though....
-
The two tone was a custom job, from what I recall of the OP's original post. I'd love to learn some more about where the materials came from and price paid, though. An awesome looking interior!
-
When you get the chance, we'd love to see pictures of the interior...the two tone leather sounds cool. Enjoy your new Edge!

The moldings look great on your Edge! I'm now thinking about black ones for my (black) Edge. Are they difficult at all to put on?
-
It was confirmed on the BON forum that the D plan is, in fact, the best a non-Ford employee can do. It's a couple hundred more than the A plan. Looks like I'd better start seriously looking at replacing my 2004 F-150. Thanks again for the tip to try and find out on the Blue Oval News forum!
-
Good idea...I'll post the question over there while seeing if anyone in this forum knows about the Dealer plan. Thanks!
-
Just curious...I know about the X plan for Ford suppliers, and the A plan for Ford employees. Is the D plan, which I'm told is for Ford dealers, somewhere in between the A and X plans, or is there no such thing?

I agree with jak....the dealer's wrong about the thickness of the CD's. I will say, though, that poorly attached labels have caused many a CD player to jam and/or malfunction. Just a tiny bit of the label falling off can cause big problems. I always handwrite my labels with a Sharpie pen or lightscribe type of recorder.

Thanks for the links on the differences between AWD and 4WD...very enlightening! Regarding the brake advice, though....pumping the brakes is something you DON'T want to do with an ABS-equipped car (like the Edge is). The ABS system does this for you (albeit a whole lot faster than you or I could do it). I agree that, when sliding, you should let up off the gas...but (and I could be wrong here) I think I've read that tapping the brakes even lightly can cause the slide to worsen.

This is the most bizarre thing.... Now the door works fine! No idea what might have happened before....if I had hit something on the keyless entry keypad or the key fob, I don't see how that would have affected only the driver's door. When it happened, the car was outside (and had been sitting in the driveway all day). I moved it into the garage (that's when I noticed the problem). Wonder if it could be heat related somehow? (And I suspect that, if the door works fine for the dealer, there's not much they'll do).
-
Our month old Edge developed its first problem today. The driver's door won't open from the outside...only from the inside. At first, it was weird, as when I unlocked the door with the key fob, the lock raised up...then right back down. It did this a couple of more times when I clicked the key fob. Then I tried unlocking the door with the key...got the post to raise up, but the door still doesn't open. I'll have to take it to the dealer tomorrow morning and, hopefully, have them fix it while I wait.
-
I'll see what the owner's manual says. Thanks for the advice.
-
Just curious what others in here think.... Our dealer told us when we bought our AWD Edge that it's best not to use the AWD in snow/slush. As a relative newbee on all things AWD, I've no idea if this is true or not. I had always assumed that AWD was desirable in those conditions, and that it improves traction where a FWD might fail. Does anyone in here have experience in these conditions with an AWD model?

Thanks for the info, Bryce...I'll keep it in mind when we're ready to get it. -
Bumper Protector - Now with pictures
MHOsborn replied to Bryce's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Nice job with the install, Bryce! I'm thinking of having one put on at our dealership, as I'm a little concerned that I'd muck it up trying to do it myself. Is that a Ford accessory available from Ford, or is a third-party purchase? -
What Do You Use to Clean Your Navi Screen?
MHOsborn replied to MHOsborn's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Edgy, I forgot to thank you for your advice. I had a microfiber towel as well, and tried cleaning the screen with no water, and it worked fine. Mike
