Remove the air box "snorkel" and slap a K&N filter in there. Stick with the motorcraft oil filter and quench her metal palette with 5w-20 pennzoil ultra motor oil.....she will thank you...

Awesome idea.......! This will be my next mod ! Thanks !

doedoes my ' 08 limited have battery run down protection ? -
1.3 mpg increase with the addition of K&N and removal of air box snorkle. If I could "verify" this for you Akirby, I would. This is real world results from a skeptical SOB and I expected to have no mpg increase whatsoever......I just bought the K&N to save $ on paper filters. Same travel route, same driving style and same gas station. All I can say is buy one and you will see. Peace.

Pull your MAF sensor (mass air flow). Which is screwed to the intake tube just after the filter box, which is secured with 2 T-20 screws which have a center post to prevent tampering. They sell a specific MAF sensor cleaner made by CRC I believe. Spray it good and let it dry for a few minutes before re-installing. I actually do this every oil change which is overkill but maintains optimal fuel efficiency. It sounds like something to do with fuel delivery but with such an odd issue trying everything you can may solve the issue. BTW, a dirty maf sensor will cause poor mpg and driveability issues which include rough idle. Good luck brother !

Fixed the rough ride on a 2011 SEL
ThinLine replied to fishx65's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Thevlight will trigger at about 20 psi. My 2008 door sticker says tire psi should be 35. I have the 18" wheels. Who buys a car without test driving it...? Why would they sell the '10 and get an '11......sounds like a case of too little brains and too much money.....a very dangerous combo. -
This issue is going to eat away at you and piss you off everytime you even think about driving. The noise will get louder....at least in your mind, and will end up absolutely hating an otherwise great vehicle. If you have the financial means to take a loss on trading it in on another '11......do it. Ford and your dealer will do absolutely nothing in terms of a replacement vehicle at no cost due to the issues you are having. If you have a good dealer, they may offer free routine maintenance for 5 years or free extended warranty after you take the hit. They are under no obligation to do these things but it would be nice.

Not Receivinging Recall and TSBs
ThinLine replied to Edgar Edgeworthy's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
My dealer plays dumb when it comes to TSB's and acts as if my issues are unique to me and that there are no TSB's for known issues. -
It is a silicone anti-drainback valve. Motorcraft has them and for $3 at wally world and $28 for a 5 gallon jug of pennzoil ultra, your motor will thank you.

Also, paper filters here are $12 and you should replace them twice a year. The environmental impact of not throwing out 2 paper filters a year by using a K&N would be epic if say 1,000 people switched to K&N. That's 2000 less filters in a landfill per year !!! I am not a "green peace hippie" but we all need to do our part to save the earth and air for our children.

I picked up a solid 1mpg after installing a K&N filter and removing air snorkle. I now get 20mpg. Let's say the tank holds 20 gallons. With the additional 1mpg.......that is 20 more miles I can travel befor fueling up. Say I fill up 4 times a month....that is an additional 80 miles of travel per month after installing the K&N. Gas is $4 a gallon so that is $4 less per fill up so that equates to $16 savings a month ! Running the K&N...!So in 4 months I would have saved $64 worth of gas !!! So to conclude, the K&N has paid for itself in 4 months, doesn't have to be cleaned until 50,000 miles and will last the life of the car ! I will save $192 a year using a K&N filter ...!!!!! To me, this mod is an utter and absolute no brainer. I hope you all can follow my math.....it was never my strong suit. BTW, when I say a solid 1 mpg it is actually 1.3 mpg but using 1 made the math much simpler. Do yourself a favor and buy a K&N ! Aside from the money I save, the car runs smoother and has more torque that you can feel on the SOTP meter !

I had 5,000 miles on the filter. I don't see how it could have gotten wet, as this has never happened with any other filter.
-
I used a fram filter on our Edge and the damn pleats came apart and were almost sucked into the intake. I know a friend who used a fram oil filter and after 500 miles the filter looked like it was crushed by andre the giant.....may he rest in peace !
-
I wouldn't use fram anything even if they were free !!

2011 Edge has no metal back bumper underneath
ThinLine replied to dagrev's topic in Owner Impressions
Ummmmmmmmmm, am I missing something here or would it have been better all around if the dealer just left the hitch on and took $400 off the price...? -
Damn ! I have a shop queen '08 limited . It seems that every issue listed in the TSB's this car has had ! I added up what it has cost ford for parts and labor to repair this thing and it is teetering on the $10,000 mark !

Do it yourself and save $450 !!

Replacing the ugly BLUE FORD EMBLEM
ThinLine replied to olperez1's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I had a mirror custom cut to fit the three bars which I removed from the grille. Ultra smooth, no pitting and you cannot get a better reflection. It looks very clean and bold. I think colored keyed grilles look cheesy unless it is a matte finish which looks much more sophisticated and clean. -
The snorkel quiets the sound of the intake sucking air. Major improvement with it removed and added K&N. Sounds badass when opened up and blowing by someone full throttle on the highway. Power increase is more noticeable in the lower rpm range. Edge seems to run smoother with added torque down low which a 2 ton+ car needs more of.

Motorcraft filters can be had for $3 at wally world and are just as good as a $12 K&N oil filter. If it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside running a K&N filter than by all means use them. Mobil one oil has really gone down hill rapidly which is why the price did also. I always ram M1 oil in the Edge but changing the oil every 3,000 miles I lost 2 quarts due to volatilty burn off. Switched to pennzoil ultra and now a little over 5 quarts comes out. Mobil 1 is not what it used to be.
-
I know she'll be sucking more dirt with the K&N but I change the oil every 3,000 so it is not a major concern.
