  1. If the new EcoBoost is $2,600 more (like the MKT), I'll pass. 30 years ago, I might have thought I needed more Horse Power, but now I want fuel economy and lower cost of onership. If they had the option for a 4 cyl. EB at the same price as the V-6 (w/o EB). I would take it.

    TSB

Why would you want to wade through a lot of TSB's that don't have any relevance to your vehicle? Most would cover changes to diagnostic procedures, parts supercedence, changes to the service manuals, part number changes, etc. If you have a concern with your vehicle, ask your Ford/L/M service advisor to run OASIS on your vin and code any concerns that you are experiencing. That will give you TSB's, special service messages, etc. regarding your area of interest. It is a waste of time to go fishing through a TSB listing since most, if not all, will not have any interest to you. Buying a TSB listing service is a waste also. There is $59.95 worth of insight for free.
  3. Received it Sat. for the 2007 MKX. There must be some metal in the heater core that doesn't react well with the factory coolant. I will have a discussion with the service manager next oil change.
  4. Last I heard was that they would begin building the 2011's (Edge and MKX's) the second week in May. Order guides should be out in mid-Jan. We won't have pricing, but can see the order options at that time.
  5. The grill looks fine to me - it's the tail lights that I would miss from my 2007. The older ones are distinctive and this is bland. I'll start looking seriously at a 2010 MKX now that I see this.
  6. I put the Mustang 3 bar spinners on my 18's. Pic in the gallery.
  7. I just saw this the other day at a dealership --- one pothole/two 20" wheels bent. Much more likely to happen with 20's than 18's. I was afraid to ask how much the wheels were!
  8. When you write or call Ford Customer Assistance, they document your concern/question and forward it to the dealership for handling. Sounds like they did exactly that. Ford sells the vehicle to the dealership and the dealer sells it to the retail customer. Ford won't/should not get in the middle of the dealers interaction with their retail customer. It would have been better if the Customer assistance person that gave you build/delivery information referred you back to the dealership so there would not be two stories. The dealership actually has better access to scheduling than the Customer assistance people. But since you called them, they tried to help. Sorry you had different expectations. Hope this note explains it.
  9. Yes. If you don't want to use the power function, turn it off at the control panel and use it as a manual liftgate. Don't force it when it is under power. Read the instructions in your Owner's manual. :shades:
  10. No TSB - service message 20626. It says replace bulb with 9T4Z-13466-A. 2007/2008 Edge. No mention of MKX.
  11. Owners now have a source for Navigation System update disks for many vehicles through 2008 and some 2009's. Most can be obtained through your F/L/M service departments or at navteq.com. The ones I looked at were $199 each. :shades:
  12. You might want to watch this---- http://www.etrailer.com/tv-wiring-install-...-ford-edge.aspx From their site: "Modulite or Powered Converter - Used with vehicles that do not provide enough electrical power to handle the additional strain of powering trailer lights, the Modulite or powered system draws power directly from the battery but still connects to the vehicle's wiring system to determine when to power the lights on the trailer. If there are too many lights on the trailer for the vehicle's electrical system to provide adequate power, use a modulite or powered converter. A modulite installs the same way as a standard converter except an extra wire must be run to the battery. Instead of drawing power from the vehicle wiring system, a modulite draws power directly from the vehicle battery. This is safer because the extra amps to power the trailer are no longer going through the expensive electrical components of the vehicle. More vehicles are using thinner gauge wire and require a modulite, regardless of how many lights are on the trailer, simply to protect their wiring system." I think people have found they cannot just tap existing lamp wires. BTW, you need running lights, brake/turn signal lights (usually common) and ground.
  13. Amsoil 0W20 says it meets the Ford WSS-M2C930-A specification - so good to go for 7,500 miles between changes. BTW, Ford will consider most lubrication related problems will likely be owner responsibility, no matter what oil you use and how many receipts you have. It is the owner's responsibility to ensure the correct oil and filter products are used and the maintenance schedule is followed. Too many corner lubers don't have the correct replacement filter or Ford spec'd oil and take shortcuts. :shades:
  14. Do any of you who have installed this piece have rear back-up sensors? Do you need to trim around the sensors to install the bumper protector? Thanks
  15. We just went through the same decision process on our MKX. Turns out that the purchase option was a couple thousand less than the trade-in value (we just had 13,000 miles on our 2007 after 26 months, so we bought it. One other consideration is that FMCC has additional incentives to buy or lease another new vehiocle on many of the lines, for people just coming off lease. If you see a vehicle you are interested in, ask the sales manager to run a VinCent on the vehicle or check the C&I chart for special incentives. That might affect your decision. FMCC will permit you to extend the lease for 2 months, if you decide to order or need more time to decide.

    Synthetic Oil

In addition, the cooling system is designed to work in conjunction with oil flow at operating temperatures. When you mistakenly equate oil pressure with lubrication, you can affect other operating systems. Remember, Flow = lubrication. When Ford (and Honda) settled on 5W20 motor oil, with a cSt value of 8 to 9 at 212 degrees F, they also designed the oil passages, pump, filtration and cooling systems with that cSt value as a benchmark. It is more correct to consided that oil thickens as it cools (not that it thins as it gets hotter), because the engine was designed to operate at 212 degrees F with an oil at a precise cSt value. If you want to improve on the oil recommendation from the manufacturer, go to a full synthetic 5W20 or 0W20 that meets the Ford spec. after the engine is past the break-in period (approx. 3000 miles.) Both of these options will have the correct values at running temperature and help reduce wear at start-up. Decades ago, the engines were affected by ambient temperatures, ie. they ran hotter in the summer than in the winter months. Thus, manufacturers often prescribed heavier weight oils in the hotter months. Now that operating temperatures are controlled year round, for emissions, etc. the oil weight should not be adjusted for seasons.

    Synthetic Oil

Are you challenging my stand on 5W30 oil by saying the 5W20 meets the specification? I don't care what a supplier says about their oil meeting a specification -- if you have a lubrication related failure, it is almost always owner responsibility. Look back at some of my earlier threads. If you are going to use products that don't meet the Ford specs, or don't maintain according to the Ford schedules, get your lubrication warranty coverage from your product supplier.
  18. Ford Motor Credit Manager said there are now special lease deals for 39 months on Focus SE, Fusion SE. Escape XLT, Edge and Flex. If you are shopping one of these vehicles, and they have quoted you a vehicle price, ask your dealership to figure out what a 39 month lease would run based on the price quoted. It might be far less than you would expect. The down payment they will ask for is negotiable - ie, if they would give you $1,000 off MSRP on a purchase, ask for the same $1,000 off the down payment on the lease. :shades:
  19. Leasing can be great if you know what you are doing. Often there are special rates and added incentives but you have to know what to ask for. We leased our MKX and then bought it at the end of the lease. Had there been any issues or concerns, we could have turned it in and walked away. As it turned out, the car is perfect, and worth more than the buy-out price. I will find out more about leasing next week from FMCC execs. If there are interesting developments, I'll report back.
  20. Just valid in Canada, eh. :shades:
  21. I see they have a 5w20 weight oil, but they don't say they meet the Ford specification. If you are going to change your oil and filter according to the maintenance schedule (to maintain your warranty), why spend all that money when you can get Motorcraft 5w20 for about $2 per quart? It is what was designed for our engines. :shades:

    Oil Filter

FL500S Oil Filter Edge/MKX ENGINE OIL FILTER - FROM 1/16/09 If your build date is before 1/16/09, you will need the FL-400S. Find your build date on your window sticker or ask your service advisor to run an OASIS report on your vehicle. That will tell you a lot of informationm including the build date.
  23. Yep and I should know. I just traded in my Edge when we got the Fusion Hybrid. They sat next to each other for 2 years. I'll be making the trip to my dealer in a few days, so will compare them there. Something tells me they could easily be different since the license plate is in the MKX bumper skin and the back up sensors are up very high - just under the lip. Regardless, they sure look great on the Edge. Hope I can find something similar, it this doesn't look doable. Thanks
  24. I'm wondering if it will fit the MKX????? :stats:
  25. Welcome, we just purchased our '07 MKX that was on our extended 24 month lease - 26 months and 13,000 miles. Just didn't seem right to turn it in when we half paid for it already and it has such low miles. I know you will enjoy the vehicle - just don't put any phartcan mufflers on it. Now that we own ours, I can start looking at a NAV system for it. :happy feet:
