$7.00 fix:
- Momentary switch, 7mm with 7” red (R) and black (Bk) leads. (6 for $6.49, link below. I miss Radio Shack).
- Start with the side (hockey stick) trim and remove everything. You will need a T20, a 7mm socket and a panel tool or large screwdriver to gently pry all the paneling off.
- on the back of the display, disconnect the connector. About 1.5” from the connector, cut the black with whir stripe (Bk/W) wire and the Bn/W wire.
- Attach (solder or crimp) the R lead from the new switch to the chassis side of the Bn/W. The connector side will remain cut and can be sealed w/shrink or tape or not.
- Reconnect the Bk/W wires just cut and include the Bk lead of the new switch.
SUMMARY:
1. Chassis end of the brown/white wire connected to the red lead of the switch.
2. Connector end of the brown/white wire not connected.
3. Black lead of the switch is spliced in to the black/white wire, which is connected to the chassis and to the connector.
- drill a hole in the hockey-stick trim adjacent to the stupid triangle switch that comes on by itself. Mount the new switch.
- Test everything.
NOTE:
If the battery was disconnected while doing this, nothing will work until 1-2 minutes after starting the engine.
