This is just a shot in the dark. Does the 2011 Edge have a BMS? When I had an Escape, that forum had a lot of discussion about weird electrical behavior when the battery was low or changed out. It usually had to do with resetting the Battery Management System. Perhaps when changing the alternator, the BMS needs to be reset and it's just "confused."

Yesterday, I traded my 2019 Escape for a 2022 Edge Titanium Elite. Got a surprisingly good deal on both price and trade value. So far, I think I'm going to enjoy driving the Edge. (Road noise in the Escape was unbearable.) I was in the Escape Forum and it was full of knowledgeable users. I'm looking forward to participating in this forum as well.
