That's crazy. I haven't had it go into limp mode, thank God, but I have had it pull power out, especially when in sport mode and going WOT/downshift. It only does it when it's fairly cool outside(below 50-40's). So strange how that happens. Honestly what I've forced myself to start doing is easily get on the gas in drive so it downshifts gently, or just use the paddles and downshift myself and then give it throttle progressively. Helps a ton. Hopefully it was just a fluke though!

Ford Edge Towing Guide
CrackedDSM replied to Edge Guide's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
The one I’m referring to are the gas engine variant. It’s rated for like 3500-4000 or something ridiculous. Definitely easier liability wise just to tell people don’t do it though for sure. It can do it and do it reliably, doesn’t mean it’ll be easy or do it all for you like most trucks or etc will. I definitely getcha on that! -
I’d go unleashed too. If I was to get an MVPI-2 I’d just tune the edge myself. It’s like investing in an aem ems for a stock car and not tuning it yourself. Same results can be accomplished with the stock ecu and a programmer, and I don’t have to bother learning a new software and platform at the same time. ?
-
I love my LMS E30 tune but y’all almost have me convinced to try the unleashed e50 tune. I really would have traction issues then. Lol.
-
So what are you thinking for a price on these? A clear one for example.
-
It’s a part of why I went with the edge. I cannot have a slow daily so I needed something with some boogie enough to keep me satisfied, but that wasn’t ridiculously priced or seriously unreliable(friends with Jeep SRTs and trackhawks have had nothing but problems and they’re expensive...) and if I get bored and need a fast car, I’ve got others. Lessons learned the hard way are what I try to share with others to prevent history repeating itself. I’ve modified my daily seriously and bought a slow daily and both resulted in the same thing. Heartbreak. The edge is honestly one of my favorite cars ever. Every time I drive it I remark how I love this thing. Lol. But honestly a foxbody, an older LS1 f-body, or if you can find a non abused clean dsm for a fair price(good luck) are all amazing cars to get to satisfy the go fast bug. All three will go 10’s reliably(key word reliably. You can throw nitrous on a stock junkyard block for pennies but it ain’t gonna last)for $5,000. Hell of a lot cheaper if you’re good at finding deals and have some luck!

Honestly if I did it again I’d build another 1G. 2Gs are great for mid 400’s and full interior/full street car because they handle great and high 10’s/low 11’s on street tires makes life a breeze. Once you push them though you start to see the “comfort and handling” has interfered with “because racecar” lol. My 1G was rock solid even with 500awhp. It would just straight get down, traction everywhere, you could tell they built it tough for rally stages. I do wish we had some better tuning options. I love the Cobb AP stuff for sure.
-
Man funny story, my 1G actually wasn't all that bad with the extra chassis bracing and such it had for the NASA rally's it was setup for even with solid mounts. My 2G with all it's fancy double wishbone blah blah and almost no chassis bracing vibrated like it was designed to from the factory. And 650whp in a FWD is gonna be a handful. My 2G AWD made 647 way back when it was on the HX40 and even on DR's on all four it would iceskate when pinning the gas on the street. I couldn't imagine FWD struggles. Lol. Gonna be gnarly from a roll though.
-
Worth a try at least. But I'm honestly not worried about the NVH. I've had a DSM with welded solid motor mounts and no balance shafts and 288 cams. Lol.
-
So the CPE mount really makes that much of a difference? It’s the rear wheels that I break loose worse than the fronts. Wheel hop definitely occurs if I pin the gas on a low roll though so maybe the RMM is in order soon. It’ll at least help the front wheel hop.
-
How is dry weather traction with TC off on those tires? Dry weather traction for me is a straight struggle with a brake boost launch on my terrible 245 tiger paws. Those wheels look great too I must admit.
-
Are those full leather black front seats? They seem more plush than the cloth/vinyl leather hybrid my ‘15 has. If they’re great I’d be tempted to swap them out!

Ford Edge Towing Guide
CrackedDSM replied to Edge Guide's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
I honestly think it was a marketing thing. The european models have a much higher tow rating, and honestly the engine and trans can take it. I found a post recently where someone towed a huge caravan/mobile home behind them up and down the mountains of CO, with a trans temp gauge, and their temps were perfectly fine. I think it's honestly to encourage people to buy their more expensive, more premium model trucks if you plan to tow at all. Why buy an F150 or an Explorer ST if you can tow 3500-4000lbs with a significantly less expensive Edge? I've personally towed a 1998 Eclipse GSX AWD, with a spare engine, and a ton of parts, roughly 9 hours and my temps were great. Didn't struggle at all. Braking was good, would absolutely do it again. I know I'm bumping a little, but figured this info was relevant. -
What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

Hey fellas, kind of a shot in the dark here, but I’m in need of the center and drivers side exterior sunroof trim/strips. I’m hoping one of you guys either have a wrecked edge or an edge in your local junkyards that you can get these off of. They’re like $200 a piece brand new and I just refuse to pay that much for a plastic trim piece. Would really like the clips included but not a deal breaker if not. I’m in central NC, but will travel a decent distance to meet up. Or I can just pay for shipping. I’ve included a picture where the parts I need are circled in red. let me know! Hook a friend up with early Christmas present!

WGDC is wastegate duty cycle. Depending on the value input, it controls boost up or down by activating or closing the WGA. It means he’s commanding it to do one thing and instead of being steady it’s running what boost it wants. If it was a solenoid or etc wrong there’d be a code for sure. Boost leak/vacuum leak test is paramount. It also may be a leaking BPV because apparently this platform struggles with that when you turn up the wic. Honestly an easy way is you could spray the intake track, then intercooler piping, then vacuum lines in order and one at a time with soapy water and watch for bubbling. Have someone rev it too while you watch.

I was wondering if I was the only one annoyed by this. Finally one day I got sick of it and zip tied a small bag around the mirrors, washed the car, and it helped so much. I just wiped the mirrors off with a damp cloth(with no pressure applied) to remove dust/debris, then detail sprayed it, waxed it, and they both turned out great. Before this this I was very tempted to just wrap the mirror in a chamois cloth to absorb everything. Lol.
-
I know I said lol, but I’m actually serious. I really like the clear look. I don’t know why.
-
I’m interested. Especially in a clear one. Lol
-
There’s a saying I live by: “don’t seriously modify your daily”. A lot of people break this rule and are miserable when it fails. Basic stuff and if you have a go fast bug, get a separate car so when it’s down you’re not down too.
-
I should mention there’s an issue with my edge (U0415 abs control module communication error) that has completely disabled traction control and stability control(among others) so there are zero nannies preventing wheel spin. So my traction issues may not be something most have to deal with. and I could definitely go aftermarket lighter wheels with a 305 width but at that point I’d worry about grenading the PTU, axles, diffs or all of the above. Lol.
-
Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I have these exact tires on my '15 Edge Sport AWD, but in a 245 width instead of 265, on my oem 20" wheels. Ride is great, wet weather traction is good, no complaints. Except one. On an LMS 93 aggressive tune, I can break the rears loose a little basically on demand in perfectly dry weather. On the E30 aggressive tune I have now, traction is 100% a problem especially from a dig I have to launch at 35-50% throttle, hold it until roughly 10-20mph, then floor it. Anything else is just wheel hop and all four wheels burning. The 265 might be a little better, but if you're aggressively tuning the edge and looking for traction, avoid these. That is literally the ONLY complaint though, amazing ride quality, no road noise, wear is exceptionally well. Great tire.
-
Definitely. There are so many vacuum lines and sources on these engines I honestly wouldn’t know where to apply a boost leak tester to pressurize the system. On a dsm we just hook a pvc endcap to the inlet of the turbo and pressurize it that way but on these engines...no idea. Lol. And visual inspections only yield so much. Only thing I can think of is inspect the lines to the WGA and bend/twist them to see if any are cracked.
-
Good stuff! Definitely made a huge difference for me. I did a dragy run recently of 12.85 @ 106 and 0-60 in 4.6 seconds because I finally got lucky with traction, so it’s really moving! Also, you may have a pinhole leak in the wastegate vacuum hoses. Also could be a sticking wastegate actuator? I’m not sure honestly. You might just have a factory freak(it’s a good thing). Record a 0-60 video! That’ll say a lot even without a dragy.

I test every shipment. I used to be a manager for my local Sheetz so I know their schedule. If I didn’t know I’d probably test every couple weeks. One week is was E60, the next it was E79. That would’ve been a drastic difference in e content had I not tested it.
