Sharing my Turbo Experience. 2012 FORD SEL Ecoboost 2.0l. I live in CA. My car was giving me the P0299 Code. I ended up purchasing a turbo from eBay just to get the "Wastegate Section" the "Thin One" since my Edge is a 2012 with the -A Turbo. I got a quote from Ford for the Turbo, which is now the "Thicker" "Wastegate Section" the -H revision. In turn, I would need to purchase a new Catalytic Converter to mate up with the revised waste gate section, at an additional cost of $2,000! So, I sent off my Edge Turbo to Turbo Re-source in Lake Havisu, AZ. Rebuilt Turbo was $780 plus shipping. I also had the ebay turbo shipped to Turbo Re-source. They mated the waste gate section up to my rebuilt Turbo and set the waste gate linkage to specs. The turbo is totally rebuilt and blueprinted. I want to say that Tom and his team have been the best to deal with. They had my Turbo rebuilt and shipped back to me in 7 days! Super friendly and went above and beyond with all of my questions. I contacted Borg-Warner directly and were referred to them. Borg Warner also suggested BECS Turbo in Whittier, CA. I also spoke to a technician Art Saldana.
I had the turbo taken out by my mechanic and reinstalled. I am having an intermittent "Over Boost" code now, P0234. It happened on the same street/hill we drove up in the same spot twice. The first code I had my mechanic clear it. The second time it cleared itself within a few days. No issues except on the one hill we went up. I need to have it checked to pull all the codes. Maybe we can pin point the issue with one of the sensors? Any suggestions? Are the sensors reachable with the turbo still in the vehicle. Estimated cost to diagnose and replace a sensor?
Ford wanted around $5,500 to replace turbo, catalytic converter which included labor.
I had my turbo rebuilt and donor EBay turbo for the waste gate section and R&R labor for $2,750.
