sync equipment location
wkevingossett replied to blockisle9's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
IIRC, the SYNC module is located at the base if the center console, underneath the the plastic trim where the rear AC vents are. If you remove that part of the trim, you should be able to find it -

How did you go about fitting the cupholders? -

Confused with HID wiring
wkevingossett replied to maddwakester's topic in Accessories & Modifications
No, I didn't have the capacitor. Luckily I didn't need it -
Roof Rail Removal
wkevingossett replied to waveslider1920's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
From what I remember, the roof isn't structurally sound to hold the extra weight with the vista roof. If you go aftermarket though, the weight is put more onto the sides/pillars -
Confused with HID wiring
wkevingossett replied to maddwakester's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I just followed the diagram on retro-solutions.com (single beam kit w/optional harness). At first, I wasn't getting a good ground, so I spliced in a longer wire so that it would reach the engine block ground (just in front of the firewall). Everything works perfectly now! Edit: I don't have DRLs activated, in case that makes a difference -
Confused with HID wiring
wkevingossett replied to maddwakester's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I just recently started experiencing the "flutter" you mentioned, and every now and then the passenger side bulb wouldn't fire. I did not have the included harness wired in, so that was the first thing I tried. That solved all my problems. Just hooked up the relay harness (with an extention wire to the ground so it would reach the block grounds) and everything works great now! No capacitor, no time delay... Just the included harness. -
Hardwire radar detector - where to connect hot wire?
wkevingossett replied to carfaninpa's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
I hardwired mine to the overhead map lights... Worked like a charm. I wouldn't be able to tell you which wire is the correct wire, though. -
RetroSolutions are great, and inexpensive, and they have an Edge specific wiring harness that comes with the kit.... Did I mention the forum member discount? There are many threads on here about HIDs, check them out

You can remove the shifter cover just as easily as the center stack... Open up the center console and pull up on the area where the shifter cover meets the console (and where the console lid snaps closed). The whole thing pops up just like the center stack pops off

Not only is it possible to swap out headunits, but it is possible to retain all sync functionality too. Of course, there is extra hardware you will have to purchase, but if your goal is to go oem and retain sync, it is possible. It would probably be easier and less expensive to go aftermarket, though. Many headunits offer all the same funtionality of sync, and some do a better job too.

Replacing Head Unit - Harness question
wkevingossett replied to Mattmilw's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I installed a 4100 last year in my '08 without SYNC, and just used a basic Metra harness. I don't know if the wiring would be different because of SYNC, but I would get the basic one first and try it out. If it doesn't work, go with the other. Check out my install thread here -
Roof Rail Removal

If you want a roof rack with your vista, you're going to have to go aftermarket. The factory ones won't work -
Help needed: Parrot MKi 9100 Installation
wkevingossett replied to eifel's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The removal of the dash really is a breeze, and the stereo just has four bolts holding it in -
With the headunit you have selected, it would be extraneous and redundant to keep SYNC functionality... The HU does everything that SYNC does. Wouldn't be worth the time and money

By "never turns off," do you mean beyond the accessory delay? As in, when you turn the ignition off, the radio continues to play for 10 minutes or until a door is opened. Is it staying on beyond that time frame? I leave my iPod plugged in all the time and have never had battery issues. Plus, the iPod doesn't completely "turn off." It sleeps. And while it is sleeping it shouldn't be drawing any power if the car is not on.

SINGLE CD WITH STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS

Same post three times in three minutes? Really?

I ruined a good battery by trying to remove the positive cable... It absolutely wouldn't budge! The post actually separated from the battery

You can retain all SYNC functionality with an aftermarket HU, you just have to add on another piece of hardware. A factory navigation unit can be found for a lower price on ebay or other parts dealers than through Ford directly, but honestly for the money it would be better to go aftermarket. You will get more options and better sound quality that way...

HELP ! ! ! SYNC on Fire. Many Lights on DASH on...

Why didn't you just take it to a dealer in the first place to have everything replaced? -
Fog light bezel swap out
wkevingossett replied to Ghastly's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Searching the forum would have turned this up. Many have done the mod, and you don't need to buy additional parts... -
Is this what you saw? If so, that's a Sport model, for which you can order the tails and switch out with your own. If that's not what you saw, then the aren't OEM and they were done aftermarket by the owner.
