  1. Ford deleted the engine covers and one of the earlier model's two horns in 2019. As you're seeing in several responses replacement covers are easily found though I'd opt for an auto wrecking yard to pick up a cover (and another horn) for a couple of bucks. BTW if it took until a first wash to look under the hood of your new car I'm going to guess you haven't explored the rear storage area under the carpet either. Take a peek. You might not have a spare tire or tire changing tools.
  2. Ron J wrote: "Is there a cheaper/free option vs ordering the maps from ford for $100 or $140?" There is a much cheaper way. Now that you're running version 3 you can use Android auto or Apple Carplay along with either Google Maps or Waze. Plug your phone into the USB data port and give permissions for the appropriate app. You'll enjoy always updated maps and current traffic conditions on your dashboard screen.. For FREE!
  3. Good response Haz, and a very tactful way to say 'read the freaking manual'!
  4. Check out your Sync3 Supplement manual. Here's a screen shot of the info (Gen2) you're interested in at the moment.
  5. Try the factory service manual, a FREE download from MacT Garage: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Kv_Hsy6bOToW-NiO3ME9mY5TRvoHYKlS Look for the Service Manuals link.
  6. Check the menu again to be sure the 'remote start/climate control' item is set for "Auto" and not "Last Setting". Also be sure the "Auto" button on the dash (or display) is turned on. After that the system will try to determine whether heat or AC are necessary to bring the interior to 72 degrees F and whether heated or cooled seat functions are needed. Below is a copy/paste from your owner's manual (Climate Settings). Note, in what the manual calls "moderate weather' you might not even notice anything turning on. You also have to press the start button after entering the car for the indicator lights to come on even though the seat might already be heating/cooling. Automatic Settings In hot weather, the system is set to 72°F (22°C). The cooled seats are set to high (if available, and selected to AUTO in the information display). In moderate weather, the system either heats or cools (based on previous settings). The rear defroster, heated mirrors and heated seats do not automatically turn on. In cold weather, the system is set to 72°F (22°C). The heated seats are set to high (if available, and selected to AUTO in the information display). The rear defroster and heated mirrors automatically turn on.
  7. You're correct. For 2012 and beyond there's a double chain and more robust gaskets/sealing. There have been few reports of 3.5L water pump failure in the Gen2 Edge but whether that's because of the improvements, generally lower mileage so far or better informed owners (who are now more proactive with coolant changes) nobody seems to know.....unless it's Ford's engineers and they're not talkin'.
  8. Yes I believe it is but there's no harm in giving it another shot. Anything to save a trip to the dealer!
  9. Some parts (struts, windshield wipers) simply fail with time, not mileage and no vehicle is immune. Your 12 year old Edge could have sat in a garage with near zero mileage and still have weak hatch struts simply because seals have broken down and are leaking the compressed air they were loaded with at a factory. Good news though, this isn't an expensive part and they're easily replaced by, literally, anyone.
  10. That small white funnel is for adding whatever fuel system cleaners you might want to use or gas if you ever run out. Other than using containers designed for the capless fuel system (Techron is one) that funnel is the only way to add liquids without making a big mess. Those individual storage areas are actually pretty handy for stashing things you rarely need like an emergency start battery, maybe a couple of towels to protect your clothing in case you get a flat, the key for your wheel locks etc. If you purchased used, make sure you have a jack, jack tool and lug wrench. The jack is with the spare tire, the other tools should be in a pouch. Also make sure the lug wrench actually fits over each lug. Ford uses a two piece lug for the Edge which can swell if abused so a proper 21mm socket (and the lug wrench) won't fit.
  11. Obviously that's not normal Before heading to the dealership try a full system reset: Full reboot of Sync system Hold CD eject and FF >> button until system reboots
  12. I'd strongly suggest you check your owner's manual to see what's available to you. Since you don't mention the year of your Edge here's a generic answer. If you have red, black or white (audio) and yellow (video) female RCA jacks easily accessible in your Edge (suggesting they're connected to your system) then....probably. Without an analog RCA input of some sort built into the car you'll have to go shopping for an aftermarket solution that connects audio/video sources to Ford My Touch or Sync systems.
  13. Wendy, There's another (2 page) thread running on this exact subject. Ford Canada issued a service bulletin several years ago notifying owners of the issue and offering a free fix. Unfortunately owners in other countries never got that memo. Here's a link to that thread which includes the customer service bulletin:
  14. There was 17B39 but it was for Canadian vehicles. Chances are pretty good Angel22's Edge is out of warranty so it'll be an insurance claim. That said, I did take my '16 to the dealership a month after purchase (earlier this year) and asked them to take a look at the bulletin and adjust anything necessary on my rear glass. They 'did' look and determined no action was necessary since the last time any salt (or other chemical) was used on local roads was....never. That still might be a good idea for any Gen2 Edge owner, especially if you live in a very cold (winter) climate.
  15. A warranty fix for sure. My '16 makes no noise at all (except the pleasant whrrrrr as it opens/closes). Suggestion, go to your Ford dealer and sit in another late model Edge. Try pushing up on the sun shade and compare it to yours. If there's a difference it will be something you can point out to the service writer.
  16. Actually, it's a thing just not an official Ford Motor Company release. Edge owners are downloading files, loading them onto a pair of flash drives and updating to Sync V3.4. Here's a link to the download site so you can read all about it: https://cyanlabs.net/tutorials/update-ford-sync-3-2-2-3-0-to-version-3-4-all-years-3-4-19200/?fbclid=IwAR0H9Y0FqhWHHKwtgujDxtyuKBIuT-E_l-ANpJip0oPXJrJaIiYvxEDU9s8#comment-4694266986
  17. Someone has! Check out the photo below. The owner says he used "regular automotive paint" whatever that might mean. You'll also find some great examples on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=paint+foam+engine+cover Photo Copied from MacT Ford Edge Facebook Group:
  18. OBDLink, which makes the highly regarded bluetooth and wifi code readers LX, MX and MX+ now has a reader for those who prefer the speed and security of a wired reader. The new OBDLink EX is billed as being faster and more accurate than the wired units many Ford owners use now with FORScan and there's no switch to deal with. Here's a link: https://amzn.to/36xWwLP
  19. Whoops, just noticed this post was from April this year. Just a guess you've already sorted that problem out. For anyone else who might have this problem check the fuse first. Getting to it may be a challenge. Check your owner's manual to determine the location (number) of the power point fuse. Remove the drawer on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. To do that open the drawer then, with palm up, reach into the drawer opening and pull straight back on the top of the housing (not the drawer itself). You'll hear a click and the entire assembly will come free. Now you can look through that opening at the fuse box. Reach up under the dash to extract and replace fuses. Note: the 2nd gen Edge uses micro blade fuses.
  20. Ford 'does' know about the issue and has taken steps to deal with it. Unfortunately not everyone got the memo. I once had but now can't find the Field Service Action (17B39) issued for Canadian Edge 2nd gen vehicles dealing with this issue. As I recall it involved the torque applied to a nut that fastens the wiper to the rear glass or something about the wiper anyway. The FSA has been mentioned on this forum (same subject, different thread) before but nobody posted details (that I can find). Maybe someone else has the text with specifics for the repair. It obviously won't help those with already broken backlights but 'might' help avoid the problem for someone in the future.
  21. That ship has probably sailed. Most (maybe all) extended warranties require you buy them before the factory warranty has expired. If you can find one that 'is' available read it very carefully before buying. Don't give up though. Maybe your dealer can get Ford to work with you sharing the cost of a replacement. If you're awash in good karma there might be a warranty extension available for this issue like there was for the earlier generation Edge's brake booster failures.
  22. I'm guessing your engine is the 2.0L Ecoboost. As posted earlier in this thread a TSB was issued this past August advising of a coolant leak into the #2 cylinder for some 2017-2019 engines. Hopefully you're still under warranty. Here's the TSB to take to your dealer: https://ford.oemdtc.com/4476/2-0l-ecoboost-coolant-in-cylinders-white-exhaust-smoke-and-or-illuminated-mil-2015-2019-ford-lincoln 2.0L EcoBoost – Coolant In Cylinders, White Exhaust Smoke And/Or Illuminated MIL – 2015-2019 Ford & Lincoln Manufacturer Communication Number: TSB 19-2208 Summary Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may include P0300, P0301-P0304, P0316, P0217, P1285 and/or P1299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the long block engine assembly.
  23. The negative cable or any direct cable from it is an excellent place for a ground but any metal panel on the vehicle will work just as well. Sometimes an extra wire run to that ground just isn't worth the trouble. I see you live in the Northeast so I'd suggest if you create your own ground (generally using a self tapping screw) you add a little paint to any new hole you make to avoid rust.
  24. If I recall correctly (it's been 6 months) I saw a prompt at the top of the screen indicating an update was underway. There was a pop up box when it finished that said something like 'the update will be visible when you restart the vehicle.' OH! Be sure the USB is formatted Fat32 and not Exfat as Ford advises in the instructions. If your version of Windows won't format in Fat32 you'll have to download a little utility called Fat32Format.exe . Here's a download link: https://download.cnet.com/FAT32format/3000-2094_4-77594227.html
  25. The newer flash drive might be an issue. I've read (but now can't find) posts indicating Sync has trouble reading files from a usb 3.0. I know, it's supposed to be backward compatible but Sync apparently didn't get the memo. Move the files to an older 2.0 drive (make sure everything is in root and there are no other files on the drive) and give it another shot. My '16 updated from 1.0 to 3.0 in about 20 minutes.
