2017 Edge - Liftgate Won't Latch When Parked on Angle
MaX83_ZA replied to Sport17's topic in Exterior & Body
Its due to poor body rigidity. Just push it down the last 1cm so that it will latch. -
I like it, if they didnt ruin the Sport, sorry I mean ST, with garbage suspension setup i.e. if the people that built the focus ST\RS came within a mile of setting this up, it will be horrible (in my humble opinion). Honestly, I would gladly give up all the new safety kit just for Magna Ride. My list of essentials is: 1. More Power 2. Better Gearbox 3. Better Sound System 4. Better Suspension and Damping (Magna Ride) 5. Adaptive Cruise Control

There is a magnaflow option, you just need to find it in the US: http://redirect.viglink.com/?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_151551094179819&key=4f95868279975442d20c58420425bb75&libId=jc7rrmyx0100b4bt000DA1qdmmmqi&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordedgeforum.com%2Ftopic%2F23698-new-member-re-2018-ruby-red-edge-sport%2F&v=1&out=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tdotperformance.ca%2Fmagnaflow-19048-mf-series-performance-cat-back-exhaust-system-2-25-in-dual-split-rear-exit-stainless.html&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordedgeforum.com%2Findex.php%3Fapp%3Dcore%26module%3Dsearch%26do%3DviewNewContent%26search_app%3Dforums&title=New%20Member%20re%3A%202018%20Ruby%20Red%20Edge%20Sport%20-%20Welcome%20Forum!%20-%20Ford%20Edge%20Forum&txt=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tdotperf...-stainless.html

8 degrees F i presume? In which case I understand. There was a video uploaded on youtube a couple of weeks ago where the guys from engineering explained tested a set of summer tires against winter tires in very cold temps (no snow or ice) and the summers actually whooped the winter tires... maybe worth a google.
-
No, got it with 9 000 miles on
-
Why not stick to summer tires?

I think the reason you are paying so much for the Verdes is because they are pretty good in snow and ice and pretty good on tarmac. I was actually shocked at how close they are in snow and even ice to my Conti Wintercontact I currently have on the car. Its only when we hit -40's the other day where I think the Verdes would've fallen off the edge (so many puns LOL!!!!!) Anyways, maybe worth going to full summer and then flipping to full winter?

Quick update again; it was much warmer this weekend (-1) so we decided to go for a nice drive, about 200km @ 110kph with about 20km city driving. Consumption finished on 9.2l/100km. I think I could've achieved below 9 had we not stopped so often with long idle times (site seeing )

I just use Waze via AA, get traffic and radar warnings on the infotainment, what is not to like
-
You have to connect the phone to Sync 3 with a cable, then what you see on the phone will be displayed on Sync. For now it will only work if the phone is connected with a cable via a USB plug. AA will release an update later this year to enable the app via bluetooth connection only.

Thanks for the feedback Burrcold. I think you are right about just letting the dealer sort the issues out. They are minor (except for the wipers) and not worth going to a boring or more expensive boring car. Think I will just book the old gal in and see if they will sort out the issues under warranty.

I did say out of interest, didnt I? It gives some great dyno charts and make for an interesting read but now that I have read your detailed 2 paragraphs on premium vs regular, I guess I can remove the link because enough has been said. Sorry for offending you.

So I have owned my 16 Edge Sport now for 5 months. I drove 10 000 kms in the 5 months (which is a lot for me) and am starting to build a strong opinion of the vehicle and would like your input on whether I am being over critical. I recently moved to Canada, In South Africa, I exclusively drove German cars for the last 10 years, M135, 328 M Sport, 335 Active Hybrid, A6 3.0T, Audi TT, Golf 7 GTI PPK, etc etc. So when we got the Canada, my only requirements for a new car was, it must be big enough for the family, it must do 0-100 in about 6s or faster and it must be something that was not available in SA. Enter the 16 Edge Sport with 15 000km on the clock. So I really like the following points: * The car really drives and handles like a car, especially on the optional 21s. Look, it is nowhere near my M135 or TT but for what it is, it is pretty darn good. * When you jump on the gas it really hauls @ss. I am amazed at how something this big can accelerate this fast with a 2.7 V6 Turbo motor. * Its got a lot of space in the boot (trunk) * Excellent consumption on the open road, low to mid 8l/100kms are fantastic! * Road noise at speed is very good, even with the big tires. What I really dislike: * When it snows, I use the one wipe wiper function a lot. I have noticed 3 times, that using it too much causes the system to "freeze" and the wipers wont work... Terrifying when driving in snow at night. * Sync 3 looks great but it has frozen multiple times and it feels like I am beta testing software for Ford * Xenon headlights do not have the lighting power of other Xenon cars I have owned. Again, not good for driving at night. * The gearbox (slushbox) is soooo mushy and slippery, it almost detracts more from the package than what the engine adds (bring on the 2019 Edge with the new 9 Speed) * We hit -36 over the holiday and only half the car worked... Memory Seats, Steering wheel, indicators stalks, LCD panel lagging... * Sunroof refuses to close... It opens ok, albeit a bit slow... but then stops when closing. To the point where you need to use both hands to pull it close. I cleaned the rails (all 5) and added fresh dielectric grease and still wont close on its own. Will have to take the car to Ford to sort out. * The doors seam is located underneath the car, when driving on ice, it freezes the door shut. When overtaking on a dual carriage there is more snow and ice in the left lane. After 400km the ice was packed to think around the bottom of the driverside back door seam (underneath the car...) that I had to use de-icer to melt enough snow to be able to open it. I am wondering if I should sell the car and get a Tiguan or maybe even a BMW X1/3. Even wondered if I should look at a 2018 2.0T Hyunday Santa Fe... Those will not be as much fun but from past experience, they tend to work all the time. What is your Edge experience and am I being hypercritical?

I am a firm believer of driving only premium fuel in performance turbocharged cars. Have a look at these tests for interest sake. http://newsroom.aaa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Premium-Fuel-Phase-II-Research-Report-FINAL-2.pdf

Has anyone ever taken their Edge offroad? I drove my car in -36 over the holidays and at one point found myself next to a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk on an Icy Road. After a couple of intersections pulling away next to each other, our inner child "forced" us to see who could get away from the lights the fastest on the Ice. The Edge nailed the Jeep every time. If its good on the track, its good on the ice LOL! The brake actuated torque vectoring works great on the Edge sport and unless you plan on taking the car offroad, doubt you will ever need anything more from the AWD system

Trip update; drove about 1 000km over the holidays, most of it highway... Unfortunately, roads were covered in snow and it was -36 outside. Having said that, driving the Edge fully loaded (trunk stuffed to the roof, 3 puppies, 1 baby, 1 driver, 1 wife) we still managed 11l/100km over the 1 000km. That included a lot of cold start 15+min idles. Will redo the test in the summer, there is just no point in doing this in -36

I have 3 Daxies (sausage dogs) that make infrequent trips in the edge. We stay right next to a park so the only time they really get to go for a drive is when we go away for holiday.

Good point, to update my post, its a 2016 Edge Sport AWD with the optional 21s on Pirelli All Season Rubber, sitting on about 25 000km. I've got a roadtrip coming up next week, will be doing about 1000km and will update this post when I get back.

We get about 10.5 to 11 l/100km in town (22mpg) 8.4 to 8.9l/100km highway (28mpg) Running exclusively 94 Octane (Husky with 10% Eth) in Summer and 91 VPower in Winter.

Thanks for the idea, Sirius antenna signal booster, order one from me now, I will post to you soon. But remember this is a prototype so it will be $399 (or an unleased tune, whichever is easier for you lol!)

Hang on a second, what if I call my sticker a lag reduction system... "eliminates those annoying lag silences when calling long distance"
-
Hahahahahaha, i can honestly not believe that... What is probably worse is that people actually buy these things.
-
My next invention will be a Signal wave stabilizer that looks like a silver barcode sticker, you put it on the back of your phone and then it stabilizes the signal from your phone so that it can reach the other phone quicker. I think I will sell them for $20 a pop...

Finally fitted! 245\50 R20 Continental WinterContact SI. Design is a bit simple for my liking but my wife liked it and sometimes that is more important than what you like
