Good Topic. 2019 SEL, 2L. Other than having the transmission replaced at 90K, my biggest and really ONLY gripe is the drivers side sun visor. It is about 1.5" to short when the sun is coming in from the drivers side! The sun always hits my eyes just behind the Visor!! grrrrr

Never thought that my hearing loss could come from my time in the service (twice). But a visit to my County Service Officer (actually his secretary because he is a jerk) proved me wrong. I have horrible tinnitus but thought it was just my age. (I'll be 80 in March). But she helped me file all the paperwork and as they say, the rest is history. The CSO advised me NOT to submit a letter of explanation with my paperwork. But all of my records from my reserve time have 'gone missing'. In four years of reserve time, only one piece of paper exists that I have. It is a promotion order. All the rest of my documents .....'disappeared'. I think that the IRS would have tax returns from that period, showing my income from my weekend drills and summer active duties. I filed a two page letter with my documents and explained that I served in the Reserve in the 80's and that the paperwork disappeared. I also explained that I ran rifle ranges, M72 A2 LAW range, and M203 Grenade range and was certified to teach each subject. I also explained the lousy or non existent hearing "protection" that we had or did not have. After a whole YEAR, I got approved and BACK PAY from the day I applied. A week or so later, I got a letter showing my 10% permanent disability and a letter explaining that IN NO SMALL PART, the letter that I wrote about my reserve time, was the DECIDING FACTOR in awarding me the disability. I took that letter to the CSO and to told him to pound sand!! My 10% is worth around $175/ month that I would not have had I not applied!! Do not hesitate, and do not take NO for an answer. The VA is great at saying NO. don't let them.

Labor hours to replace an oil pan.
zakatooi2012 replied to rjburer's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
Not only on the vehicles listed. My 2019 Edge with the 2L turbo has oil pan gasket 'seepage'. Discovered when they changed my transmission because of a tranny failure. The technician recommended changing the oil pan gasket while they had the transmission removed. BUT...because it was just seepage, not a 'leak', it was not covered under my warranty. And, the labor to replace the pan gasket was something like 12 hours!! Not going to happen. They did not say it would be reduced to just the price of the gasket and a small amount of labor since they were getting paid to remove the transmission anyway. Double dipping is what that is, but I'm not paying for it. If it become a LEAK, then my warranty will replace it. -
Hey Biker, Sorry to hear about your 2019 tranny issue(s). As you have probably noticed, you are not alone! It sucks....alot. And the frustrating part is that Ford will not accept any responsibility for this issue. I do not believe that the EGR will be the final fix for your car. I see where several others claimed that theirs were 'fixed' by replacing the EGR valve, but that the problem almost always returned. The eight speed tranny sucks and is expensive to fix. If you have any kind of warranty left, get it replaced. If not and if you can, dump that sucker!! If it is any consolation, My CHEVY faithful brother has a brand new 10 speed 2500 heavy duty super this and super that truck. He had to take it in for a 'reprogramming' of the computer for a recognized shifting problem. When he got it back, it was worse than before.

I know....this is going to sound kinda weird... We went to our local Hardee's restaurant a few months back. We parked in the spots right near to the building, which also happen to be near to the drive-through ordering station. When I went to lock the car, the fob did not work. But I did get a notice on the left side of the instrument cluster telling me to restart the car?! I did that, but to no avail. The fob would not work on the car. Neither would my wife's fob. So I moved the car away from the building and everything worked as it should. So I called the salesman at the dealership and he told me he has had several other customers report the same thing! But he thought it was because it was a problem from the pumps at the gas station next door to Hardee's. I'm not so sure about that because it is a couple of hundred feet to the gas station pumps, while the drive through is only about 50 feet away from where we parked. I even tried replacing the battery in the fob, to no avail. So, if you ever have a similar situation, move the vehicle to a different location. It seems that many gas station and drive-throughs use wireless technology rather than wired. GO FIGURE!

Since my old dealer decided that my business was not needed by them, I had to search for a different dealer to address the transmission issue that I am having with my 2019 Edge SEL 2Lturbo. I bought an extended warranty when I bought my Edge, two years ago. When I bought it, I had a choice of extended warranties to consider. The dealer I purchased the Edge from offered Ford, Chrysler, and Zurich warranties. But the credit union that financed the purchased, offered a Route 66 warranty for a MUCH better price. Now that I have a transmission issue, the dealer where I purchased the Edge would NOT honor the Route 66 warranty. So, I found a dealer that would. Morries Ford in Tomah Wisconsin is that dealer. They also have several other dealerships around Wisconsin and I believe one is Minnesota. We worked with a service writer named Sera, and she is an absolute delight to work with. She is the go between to us and the service department and also the warranty company. The dealership is very nice and well situated. Something that I have never experienced was that the repair technician created a VIDEO of his diagnosis of the issue with my Edge. And I was (am) able to see exactly what he sees (saw) while he did a complete walk around of my vehicle. He showed the "burping" of fluid out of the transmission bleeder, and even drew a sample of the fluid for a visual inspection. He also inspected the car from front to rear, all on video. I was impressed and if I am able, will include that video with this post. My skills are not the greatest. All in all, when and If I purchase my 'next" vehicle, I will definitely give Morries my first business! Whether it is another Ford, that is uncertain, as Ford has been pissing me off for a number of years now. Morries has dealerships in other auto brands. The video MAY appear at... https://app.truvideo.com/v/pMZFVrjh

Dealership & Vendor Experiences Forum Guidelines
zakatooi2012 replied to PrinzII's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
The dealer that I have used for the past 20 years and 4 or 5 vehicles is Rudic Jensen Ford, Chrysler, Jeep New Lisbon Wi. It had been owed by Mark Rudic and he was an excellent owner. He treated customers like they really counted. About 3 years ago, he retired and sold the business to three employees. Since that time, things have really changed and not for the good. The final straw. When I bought my current car, 2019 Edge SEL, I was offered one of three extended service contracts. One from Ford, one from Chrysler, and one from Zurick. The ford contract was for up to 100K miles. The edge had 59K on it when I bought it. And the cost for that was in the $3500.00 range. And with all of these warranties, Diagnostic fees are not included. Rudic charges in the neighborhood of $185/hour for diagnostics. NOW, with my Edge at 89K miles and the transmission failing, Rudic WILL NOT honor my Route 66 warranty. I had to go to another dealer, further away, and they (Morries in Tomah Wi) not only honored my warranty but have been extremely helpful. I am scheduled to get the transmission replaced next week. Their diagnostic fees is $155/hr included shop "fees". The other kicker, I have dealt with the same salesman for all of my purchases. He is very active on Facebook, so I sent him a private message outlining my problem with Rudic. His response...."I'm sorry to hear about all of that Bob". That's it!! When I spoke to the Route 66 adjuster, I told them that Rudic would NOT honor their warranty. Apparently, Route 66 called Rudic and whatever was said, Rudic then decided to honor their warranty. But for me, to little, to late. So, I will be buying my next vehicle (if that is to be, as I'm approaching 80 years old!!) from a different dealer. I'm even thinking of switching to a different manufacturer. Over the years I've had most if not all of the American made vehicle types. From Ford, Chevy and Chrysler. Buick, Olds, etc.... I've never owned a foreign vehicle, but that may change. -
HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND A BIG THANK YOU to all who have posted in this thread. I was able to convince my Ford Service department that I did indeed have a transmission issue with my 2019 Edge SEL, 2L turbo. I searched this forum and finally found this thread. I have ALL the same conditions with my transmission. I even had the fluid changed ($500) with 79900 miles. At that time, there was no issue but wanted to maintain this vehicle for a long life. After the fluid was changed, during cold weather, I started having hard up and down shifts. I SHOULD HAVE RETURNED TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY. But the weather warmed up and the issue(s) disappeared. Now, at 89900 miles, the issue(s) have resurfaced and the weather is colder. I took it to a dealer after reading this forum. The service technician VERIFIED my concerns with the shifting issues. Fortunately, I had bought a non-Ford service contract and the $6000 cost will be paid in full!!!. I did have choices...The service contract that I had was with Route 66. I chose this company because it is thousands less than the Ford, Chrysler, or Zurich plans hawked by the dealer. This one I bought through the credit union. They have been great to work with and I even get money for a rental/loaner car. I did opt for a Ford Certified and rebuilt transmission rather than the "used" transmission that my plan covered. The additional $500 cost, to me, was worth it as I intend to keep this vehicle. The re manufactured transmission will be warranted to 2 years with UNLIMITED mileage. Since my service contract goes to 120K miles and into 2027, I figured it was (is) the best option. Again, THANKS to all who posted on this thread!!

DEAC.... OK, OK so it is a ptU, but in all the research I've done before and after mine was replaced, I've seen various sources call it PTO. Some even refer to it as a PTU/PTO. It actually takes off power from the engine/tranny from the rear wheels, and with this unit (whatever you chose to call it) it sends power to the front wheels. Mine was replaced last week and I actually talked to the "tech" who did the work. He said that he hasn't seen that many of them leak! HOWEVER, this is a small dealership in a rather rural setting, so that may account for the relatively low number. He also said that the unit was now filled with 100% synthetic fluid so, in theory, should last longer! The new warranty is for 24months, unlimited mileage because it is a Ford part, replaced by a Ford dealer.

If I can paste this.....it is the discussion that I had,via chat, with a Ford representative. I imagine that many of you have had similar discussions, but figured just in case! If I ever hear from them, I will post the results here. A Ford representative will be with you shortly. Carissha says: Hello Bob. My name is Carissha. How can I help you? Carissha says: Are you still with me Bob? Bob says: Hi Carissha, My 2013 Edge had developed the same problem that apparently thousands of others have, back to 2008. The PTU started leaking and will be replaced by the dealer on thursday. Why hasn't Ford addressed this issue??, and has Ford put out a TSB to install a drain in the PTU for fluid change? All the reports I've read say the fluid turns thick, looses lubricating properties and then clogs the vent. Pressure builds and then pours out the vent at high pressure. Your comment please.... Carissha says: I understand your concern and I'll be happy to assist you. First, to document your concern, can I please have your phone number and approximate mileage? This information is not in our records. Bob says: ....89000 Carissha says: Thanks for that information. Please give me a moment to do a little researching Bob. Bob says: ok Carissha says: I am still researching, I'll be with you shortly Bob. Bob says: ok Carissha says: I appreciate your patience Bob. Upon research, Ford has not released any information pertaining to the PTU for your vehicle. I have also checked for related field service actions on your vehicle, but found none at this time. Because your vehicle is being serviced soon, what I would suggest, is to have the dealership’s service manager contact their assigned Ford representative for this issue. The Ford representative has access to resources and detailed technical information about your vehicle that we do not have here in the Customer Relationship Center. Bob says: Hmmmmm, I just had the oil changed, thinking that my problem might be a leaking oil filter or something else related to ENGINE OIL. When the service tech, called in the big guns at my dealership, I began to wonder. They reported that the PTU has failed and is leaking. That was last week. I have resisted to drive more than a few miles for fear of a complete failure. My research led me to the ford edge forum AND to a bunch of attorneys who are watch this problem for possible class action. Between j Bob says: just those two sources, I've found over a thousand folks who reported loss of the PTU. Way to many for casual problem(s) related to particular vehicles. Carissha says: I completely understand how frustrating this must be. What I can do is forward your comments about your experience and feedback pertaining to your vehicle to the appropriate person for review. Would this be okay Bob? Bob says: Yes, but again, I am concerned by the extreme number of failures of this part. I also have a factory installed trailer towing package. Although I do very little towing. I was lead to believe that a towing package meant heavy duty components subject to more stresses while towing, CERTAINLY the PTU would fall in to that group. Carissha says: Okay, actually, I will send this entire chat session over for review so that your concerns are documented and acknowledged. Bob says: OK, but I do have one other question.....I found a Field Service Action listed for MY vehicle giving extended warranty coverage on the BRAKE BOOSTER. How long is that warranty and when does it expire? Carissha says: Let me check for you. Bob says: woops, action number 13N02 Carissha says: Thanks again for waiting. It appears the mileage limitation to have the repair performed is 150,000 miles. While your vehicle is being serviced, It may be a good idea to have the dealership completed this repair as well. Bob says: Hmmm, I bought that vehicle with 31000 miles on it. I thought some action had already been taken regarding the brake booster. I must be confused. ?? Carissha says: Currently, 13N02 -EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE ON BRAKE BOOSTER is still showing as an active field service action that your vehicle is eligible for. There may be another issue pertaining the the brake booster that needs to be addressed. The dealership will be able to verify this. Bob says: Thank You....finally, I look forward to discussing this with the people you are going to forward this to. I also understand that once Ford replaces a part, and if THAT part ever fails, it will be replaced free...is that correct? Carissha says: Yes, parts and labor to replace defective parts are covered within 24 months/unlimited miles. Bob says: OH, I thought it was as long as I owned the vehicle! Carissha says: Bob, yes the service part warranty applies to parts replaced by Ford dealerships. However, Motorcraft engine and transmission assemblies may have a unique warranty. The dealership will need to verify this. Bob says: Thank you, as I said, I look forward to discussing the PTU issue with your technical people. Have a nice day! Carissha says: You're very welcome Bob! If you don't mind, please take the short survey after the chat to rate my service. Have a good day! Bob says: I will.... Carissha says: Thank you!

I may be linking at least two topics here and my intention is not to hijack anyone's post. But as a new user to this forum I became aware of several severe issues with (MY) Edge. The most glaring is the PTO problem. I have a 2013 SEL AWD with FACTORY towing package. I do very little towing and nothing near the towing rating of my vehicle. My PTO started leaking last week. I have 89xxx miles on the vehicle and I'm P.,O'd. However, unlike several of you, I do have an extended warranty, which is bringing the cost for my replacement (due in two days) down to the $350 range. That is the $200 deductable and an additional $150 for a NEW unit from Ford. The warranty contract specifies used or rebuilt as the first choice. Since only one "used" on was available, I chose the new one. Anyway, getting back to my original reason for posting......How many of you that have already had a PTO failure (or more than one) have a FACTORY towing package on the EDGE? May not seem important, but to me, Towing package means Heavy duty battery, cooling system, tranny cooler, etc. It's the ETC, that I'm not to sure about!!

I get it folks! I figured that there would be a certain amount of work involved! But being only semi-literate with computers, I guess that my mind underplayed the amount of work that was involved. That probably comes from watching my son update, repair my computer...click, click, click...there dad, you're good for awhile now!!! My reference was actually to just the AWD section and it's nine pages. There are numerous AWD and PTO discussions in about six of those pages. Yes, some are redundant, but others are not. It also would demonstrate the LARGE number of confirmed problems with these PTO's since way back in the 2007/2008 years. I also can't help but wonder, thus my detailed search, if there is data regarding Edge or Flex PTO problems and how many of these have a factory towing package. Mine does, and I do a small amount of towing. Perhaps I will start yet another discussion about that??!! Thanks for your help....

Dear ADMIN... Since joining this forum, I've spent many hours browsing posts to try to get a better understanding of MY problem! It seems like there are a very LARGE number of folks just on this forum who have had or are having issues with their EDGE PTU's. Mine too, is leaking and I am waiting for the dealer to call and tell my the NEW PTU is in from Ford. I have printed many papers from this forum, especially regarding the venting issue from the PTU. Hopefully, I can get the service writer to even look at them? There are literally hundreds of posts regarding this issue, but most are scattered through the entire forum. Would it be possible to combine these posts? I'm not sure how many other issues with Ford products have this many posts, but if any, they too, could be combined. Thanks for the great forum

HOWDY, I'm Bob, a newbie to this forum. I stumbled across you folks while doing research on my LEAKING PTO, on my 2013 Ford EDGE SEL AWD (of course) This is my second attempt, since I had this whole intro typed out before and it just disappeared! My old fingers probably hit a key that did not work correctly! Anyway, I see by so many of the posts that I am not alone with this problem. I have just started the process of getting it changed. My Edge has just under 90K on it, and I bought it when it had 31K on it. Fortunately, I purchased an extended warranty at the same time. So....after seeing what many folks have paid to have it changed, anywhere from $1300 to $2000, I feel lucky. My plan has a $200 deductible and since the plan would only authorize a USED unit, I opted for a NEW unit at an additional $150 cost to me. The part is supposed to come from Ford in a day or two, and I am curious to see if it has a drain hole or not! I did see the posts about drilling and taping the unit for a drain hole or using suction to remove the old fluid prior to failure. But being over 70, that is just not in my range of abilities any longer! I do intend to find the section of this forum where I can "register" my complaint. But I also intend to contact Ford. I know that is an exercise in futility since I've had other Fords and found Ford to be less than helpful!! But I also intend to contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission. From what I've read, if the PTO fails while traveling at highway speeds....you know 80 MPH or more these days, it could be extremely dangerous. Can't hurt.
