G2 Edge w/H&R Springs & Atturo 850's: Two Questions
Mikula replied to sfbluenote's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Check the sidewall on the tire for max tire pressure. then multiply that number by .9, and fill them to that pressure if you're looking for good handling characteristics. automakers put the tire pressure in the door jamb to give you a good balance of ride quality, and handling. tire manufacturers will tell you the max pressure and load ratings, so they have a better understanding of what the tire likes/what it is engineered for. I've still got the stockers on, but i'm at 45psi (51psi max) and they certainly handle better than when i was running them at 35psi -
sad to hear about that. I use UPR for nearly everything on my drag car. between them and team z motorsports i've never found better companies for parts and customer service. then again, like you said this isn't exactly made for the edge. I'll look elsewhere for the catch can. thanks for the update.

its an issue on any direct injection engine, not just ecoboost. seems to be exacerbated by the turbos though. i wouldn't see any reason for random people on the internet to give a thumbs up on a product or lie about results. 5 drops of oil in a catch can to me is enough insurance if i plan to keep this thing for any length of time. oil on the valves is oil on the valves. will your engine blow up or run like hell if you don't have a catch can. 50/50 chance. some people will pay it, some wont. i probably will.
-
I'm not sure what you mean. nearly everyone recommends the catch can, beez only had 7500 miles on it with the can, and no one knows his driving style, or weather during that time, and then later admitted he felt the other manufacturers were a better kit. based on the time of his post, it was during summer, therefore less gunk n junk. paying 35k or more for a vehicle and complaining about a few hundred bucks for a bit of insurance. no brainer in my eyes. also considering the install isn't that labor intensive (for the mechanically inclined) its really not that expensive.

never noticed a thing. but i have noticed that if you push the pedal on the right really hard that my stomach feels good inside and it gives me tingles... is that what they call counting the "smiles per gallon"

bingo. set one on my wifes ford focus on april fools.

any youtube video about the ecoboost engine

I'm really getting aggravated by the 60' times everyone else is pulling!! i don't see too many of you guys over 2 second 60' times and i can't get below a 2.047. its killing my 1/4 times

so much for this being an LMS tune thread!

damn. for that price i'll just buy a core and make my own. -
yea i noticed after i posted that those pictures were in this thread. i google searched for like fifteen minutes trying to find those pics because i knew i saw them before... and being a dummy i didn't see the forest through the trees

I know in most cases the hot inlets normally come from the same direction. but couldn't one inlet come from the top, one come from behind, or the side, or 45* angled from either? i don't know much about IC's, or if there is a particular reason both inlets generally come from the same direction. Since i have yet to remove my bumper to get a look at it, is there any space above the IC? I'm looking at some universal ones from a lot of different companies, but some are up to 11" tall, and i don't know what it looks like as far as space back/up/forward of the stock mount

engines are just a fancy version of the "fire triangle" (i mean, not really.. but really). Check spark. check fuel. check oxygen (really more like compression or leak down). but like i said, to start, check the plug. it may be worn out, or show signs of running lean. simply changing plugs might just be a band-aid, so take a good look at your plugs and see if there is a deeper issue. what do they look like? wet? black? brown? white? yellow? eroded? these things will give more information than we can sit here and guess about.
-
how many miles on it? i always check the spark plug first. that can usually give you an answer. after that i check injectors and then go to ignition and compression tests. just because it pulled a code for cylinder 6 doesn't mean it is always that cylinder. reset the code and check again when the code comes back, just to be sure its not a random cylinder. though most new cars throw a code that says it is random misfire, just make sure!

is it necessary? i've read that even without a tune an oil catch can should be added. i don't know much about the mechanics of it all.. but i hear that the ecoboost should definitely have them installed. Thoughts?

Rear Motor Mount (RMM) (2016 Edge Sport)
Mikula replied to snmjim's topic in Accessories & Modifications
only halfway off topic, but what are the dimensions of the stock intercooler vs the prototype. i can't find info on the dimensions of our stock one anywhere i've looked. -
jeez you might lose and inch of travel in the accelerator pedal with those! they sure will catch any spills though

the only people getting those 12 second 1/4 miles have insane negative DA's at their track (so it seems) and some good supporting mods. but you are absolutely correct. this thing upsets some people out on the street (most recently an infinity g37) -
i was really hoping they'd come around and figure out what unleashed is doing. it seems they have a bit more figured out about these engines. only time will tell, but so far i may end up with 2 tuners (as have other people)
-
seems like a decent upgrade. a little steep on the price for me, as i haven't noticed any wheel hop. did you get a chance to vbox any info before/after install?

gt500 you are by far the most helpful sum beech on here! thanks for all your input and testing

ugly! then again, thats what my wife says about me.

*UPDATED Livernois Tune for Edge Sport*
Mikula replied to always on edge's topic in Accessories & Modifications
They have a good amount of options for their tunes. pick an octane. pick the type of tunes you want. You'd be looking for the "soft shift" version of any of their tunes. most of us run a 91 or 93 performance tune, however mine had some really firm shifts that i never worked themselves out and i didn't like, so i asked them for the 93 performance soft shift tune and they sent it my way. feels like stock shifts, with impressive gains everywhere else. you'd have to retune for towing, as it is not recommended to tow with their performance tunes. you get 4 tunes of your choice plus the option to return to completely stock. retuning takes about 3-5 minutes. if you purchase, you'd ask them something like this: 93 performance soft shift 93 towing (or whichever octane you prefer) and then a couple more of your choice. I currently have: 100 octane race tune (for 1/4 mile days) 93 aggressive (for taking the curves and pushing it hard) 93 performance soft shift (my everyday) 91 performance (in case i'm travelling and can't find 93 octane) Stock (for longer trips.. but i've noticed better gas mileage with their tunes, but you pay more for premium fuel so its a trade off)
