A Macan will eat my dust after I put on the new Pilot Sport 4S tires next week. Heck, I don't think a Macan could keep up now, even with my bald Scorpion Verdi All Season tires.

Count me in for the IC and boost tube kit when available.

Brake kit works great, but rear shock is leaking
Xtra replied to roots57's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Roots57, I found this hood graphic design and I believe something like it would work on the Edge. I have not seen anyone with this on a Edge yet. Just an idea to ponder. This Explorer is an example of what I am talking about just the hood not the rest . It would have to be tweaked for the Edge. -

Looking good !! With the monster Rotora brakes and the carbon fiber wrap. Like the detail on the side view mirrors as well. You have created one very nice custom ride there roots57. Congratulations I want to do the carbon fiber wrap on my car same as yours . -

2016 Ford Edge Sport AWD Powertrain Limitations
Xtra replied to snmjim's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
I had a PTU warning light come on that said AWD was temporally not available and that I should take it easy for a while . This was on a hot summer day while thrashing a canyon last summer. Within two days of that I had the PTU serviced and the fluids changed to be safe. So I have already changed my PTU fluid once within 8,000 miles. I also change my engine oil every 2,500 miles. I believe that if you run hard one of the best things you can do for your car is keep fresh lubricants. I service much more often than recommended The service people at the dealership will do it for me and say you don't need to do that for another .... miles. I reply do it anyway and they say well if it gives you peace of mind we will do it...LOL if they only knew. -
2016 Ford Edge Sport AWD Powertrain Limitations
Xtra replied to snmjim's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
While researching Fusion Sports I found this posted by a Moderator. "Well I have been looking for a solid spec but haven't found one yet. But, if we follow Fords normal transmission nomenclature what we have is:" 6 = 6 Speed F = FWD 55 = 550 Newton-Meters or 405 ft-lbs of torque (downstream side of the torque converter) Again nothing solid just another guess, but it looks to be confirmed our trans is the 6F55. They all agree the 2.7EB has the 6F55 at that site. -
2016 Ford Edge Sport AWD Powertrain Limitations

The Ford 2016 Edge Brochure states that the 2.7L Ecoboost Edge Sport has a Selectshift Automatic transmission. https://www.ford.com/services/assets/Brochure?make=Ford&model=Edge&year=2016&postalCode=65613 Scroll down to Engines/EPA - Estimate Rating and Dimensions and look at the Sport 2.7 EB When I Google What is a Ford selectshift transmission I got this: The SelectShift is a "dual-clutch" transmission, the same type used in some of the highest-end performance cars on the road today. A DCT is literally just two dry-clutch, computer-controlled manual transmissions placed side-by-side, connected to each other with a common input shaft and common output shaft. One transmission carries the odd-numbered gears, and the other the even-numbered gears. These transmissions have been around in theory for more than 70 years, but weren't practical without computer controls. In the 1980s, Porsche rediscovered the concept, and did the lion's share of modern development. Most DCTs, including the SelectShift, are direct inheritors of Porsche's design work. -
Going to pick up the tires today, but not install them. I have the new camber bolts as recommended by Mikula .. and a new set of rear shocks to install as well, just in case they are leaking..... I am going to have GAS mount and balance the PS4S tires, install the new rear shocks if needed and camber bolts then do the alignment all at the same time. Once done the suspension should be in tip top shape. Oh! and Discounted Wheel Warehouse is very close to Disneyland so I am going there after I pick up the tires.

2016 Ford Edge Sport AWD Powertrain Limitations
Xtra replied to snmjim's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
From the Ford 2016 Edge Brochure: 2.7L EcoBoost V6 113.9 73.4 39.2 18.4/18.5 315 hp @ 4,750 rpm2 350 lb.-ft. of torque @ 2,750 rpm 6-speed SelectShift automatic The Ford unit is a six-speed duel clutch with one clutch acting on first, third and fifth gear, and the other used for second, fourth and sixth gear. As first gear is engaged, the 2-4-6 clutch is disengaged and the second gear cogs are engaged. At the appropriate time, the 1-3-5 clutch is disengaged and the 2-4-6 clutch is engaged. While in second gear, the other side shifts from first to third. The process is repeated with quick smooth shifts and none of the efficiency loss normally associated with torque converters. From what I could find there are two top possible transmissions the Edge Sport. First is the 6F50 The other is the updated beefed up 6F55 In the 6F55 the ring gear is 41.5mm and in the 6F50 the ring gear is 31.5mm I cannot for sure say weather we have the 6F55 or the 6F50 or another but it a start. Lots of conflicting info out there to sort through. -

Found out there are two different PTO. One might have a oil cooler and other mods for hot environments. The Hot Weather Group costs $103 more. Not sure how to tell whitch one is installed in our cars and no info yet on max power. What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

Great photos Nick. Must be nice living in paradise. -
snmjim, Here is an item you might be interested in. This Banks Water-Methanol system lets you run a 100 octane tune with 91 pump gas. It cools the charge and helps prevent knocks thereby letting you run more advance. One option is you don’t have to use a bulky tank, the windshield washer reservoir can be converted to hold the juice. You do give up having a windshield washer, it is a trade off. The Power Blend mix runs about $8 a gal and the Straight Shot system costs $699. The cool thing about this system is the microprocessor that maps the mix delivery to the engine. It is not an on / off all or nothing switch or a stepped system, it works on a curve that gives the perfect amount you need at any RPM / load. Right now they are not available as they are working on an upgraded processor/ controller and they did not tell me when it would be available. More info here : http://shop.bankspower.com/c-51-products-water-methanol-injection.html#!make%3DFORD%7C%7Cyear%3D2016

I found this and it looks like our 2.7 ecoboost has a lot in common with diesel engines. Not only the block but the pistons as well. This is new technology and surpasses the OG Gas ported pistons and Dykes rings that are still in use today on boosted engines. From what I can tell the 2.7 Ecoboost is built super strong Ford might have some high horse power plans for the future for there is room to grow. WWWPerfA_ZNOW found same info at same time Ford’s 10.0:1 Compression Ratio EcoBoost piston design uses High-Temperature Aluminum alloy combined with 2 steel cast-in upper ring supports. Previously found on high performance diesel engines, these steel supports are recessed below the piston top and act as the upper ringlands. They provide rigidity across the piston and allow the low tension rings to reliably handle long-term turbo boost. Piston top shape designed for efficient combustion with direct injector and controlled flame propagation across the cylinder. Low friction coatings are used on the piston skirt to reduce wear and friction on the cylinder walls. Piston cooling “oil squirter” jets spray oil on the underside of the piston to keep it cool and strong. “Direct -Injection Bowl” Piston top shape is designed for efficient combustion with direct injector and controlled flame propagation across the cylinder The linerless cylinder block is compacted graphite iron (CGI), Ford's first application of this material in a gasoline engine. Proven on the latest generation diesels and some racing engines, CGI is a high-strength material with excellent heat transfer properties. Compared with grey iron, the CGI cylinder block offers approximately 75% higher tensile strength, 45% greater stiffness and roughly double the fatigue strength, with excellent dimensional stability, durability, and NVH damping characteristics. Ford also used CGI in the 6.7-L Power Stroke V8 diesel (which influenced the design of the 2.7-L's block, offset I-beam connecting rods, reinforced-plastic oil pan, and pistons) Forged steel “I-beam” connecting rods reliably transmit high torque from piston to crank without distortion or bending. Forged steel crankshaft is made to withstand tremendous amounts of force Cast in support ribs provide the forged crank strength and rigidity throughout the engine block.

Thanks for the video and for taking the time to get under the car. I did notice a couple things: First at 5:05 it can tow! I am wondering what the tow load is rated at . It looked like a class III with a 2X2 receiver. This is great news for me as that is something I can use . I keep my old Explorer around just for towing and I only tow a few times a year. At 8:08 there was a shot of what looked like a very beefy front sway bar. At 8:44 those are 4 piston calipers up front not 6 piston. They were painted red though and everyone knows red calipers work better>>> LOL And last at 10:00 the grill was opened up completely over the intercooler on both sides except for where the license plate goes in the middle. Great video!

One of the things that happen when you make boost is increased pressure and that makes horsepower and HP makes more pressure. More pressure equals more heat. On cars that are naturally aspirated then converted to a turbo or a blower the rings often fail, this is because the extra heat makes the rings expand to much. In other words the ring gap was to small to start and they were designed for a naturally aspirated engine. The rings overlap when they expanded causing them to fail. Now our Edge Sports are already turbo cars so the rings are gapped to accommodate this expansion and can handle a small increase in boost. I have not heard of any Livernois or Unleashed tuned cars rings failing. But if you make the intended boost and horse power you spoke of in our private message you might want to ask your tuner about this. The type of rings and what they are made of is very important and I am sure that Ford put in the correct ones for our boosted engines. The most common type for boosted engines are Dykes-style rings on gas ported Pistons. I wonder if that is what we have and how much boost they can take. Guess you will find out…

This is just a one time thing as the price is outragious. Next time it will be the AZ850.

No I haven't. When I put on the new tires I will check out both the front and rear shocks. Thanks for the tip. Have you had any problems with yours?

I agree, I just looked up the part numbers. The Edge IC is F2G2 -6K775-A The Fusion is G3G7- 6K775-A Both are 6K775-A intercoolers. They have the same dimensions and I believe they are the same IC. Identical but for the prefix.

Just ordered up a set of Michelin 265/40ZR21 Pilot Sport 4S Summer tires. The PS4S is Michelin's newest summer tire design. After trying all my local tire shops with no luck finding anyone who carried or could get this tire, I contacted The Tire Rack . Even they could not get them, they told me to try again in March . Tire Rack is asking $358.97 each. So I called Michelin N America to find out whats going on, and they said that they have 365 tires freshly made in December 2017 in my size in stock for all of N America. Then I called The Tire Rack back and told them this information ... it dd not help and they gave me the same answer, try again in March. A little frustrating, all this work and I can't locate any retailers who can get this tire even though they advertise them and Michelin has them in stock. . Though the PS4S in 265/40ZR21 is not listed on their web site, in a last ditch effort I decided to call Discounted Tire Warehouse located about 60 miles from me. To my surprise they said they could get the tires for me in a week... and for only $320 each. $320 is the best price I have found anyplace, and they can get them!! It will probably be the only time I get these as they cost so much, but I have to try them out once. And just in time for summer fun, look out Snake here I come.
