Here are some more photos ..just because it took so long to get to this point. The V2 and V3 working together to create a complete system . Tight fit with no room to spare..
-
The V3 is finished and installed. Tomorrow I take a 300 mile test drive. The family decided to tag along so it better not give any problems considering there will be my 2 grand kids, their mom, and my wife in the car. Any fails and I will be sleeping on the couch. LOL Anyway here are the photos of the V3 installed with the custom bottom half. I still need to develop the Adaptor plate, but for now it is time to test. Oh! and the car is now running great, it was the spark plugs causing the problem. Some of the plugs gap had opened considerably causing a misfire under boost conditions. They were gapped at .029 when installed and they opened up to almost ,040 that allowed the boost to blow out the spark like birthday candles. Fits like a glove

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

That was a lot of work, I bet the car drives great after all that TLC. -
Nick Nack, Thanks for the review it is appreciated and makes the effort worthwhile. It is satisfying to know that you are pleased with your CF V2 looks and performance. I look forward to seeing your photos ?.

My car had similar numbers with 361.6 WHP and 416.3 TQ with a 91 tune. The air/ fuel ratio is 12-1

Took the car in to the shop today because the back up camera was acting up. Sometimes the picture would be scrambled and last week it went completely blue. The camera is still under warranty and will be replaced by the dealer at no charge. I am also having the spark plugs replaced with one step cooler than OEM, NGK 6510 plugs gapped @ 0.028. My car has been running a bit rough lately, and has been miss-firing under higher boost levels, and I hope that the new plugs fix the problem. After that I can finally install the V3 air box, and do a rally with Malibu Autobahn this weekend. https://www.malibuautobahn.com/events They have some cool events coming up that I am looking forward to. -
Thanks for answering my question. It just seems like an easy mod to do that could show some real results. Welcome back you’ve been gone a little while.

Thanks Donto good timing, the V3 project is ready for testing. I am planning a 300 mile test drive this weekend.

Bump..

Attached the snorkel, bolted it on and sealed it to the bottom half. I need to press down the insulation a bit better, otherwise it is good to go.
-
Just finished insulating the bottom half. There are a lot of curves and corners to wrap. It took three 2ft X 1ft sheets to cover the bottom half and the snorkel with the Thermo-Tec material. It is said to reflect 90% of the heat. So it should help with intake temps.... I hope. In this photo you can see that one foot is uncovered and one is covered. I did this to see what works better.

It is so close to being done I am actually excited, I can't wait to test it out. My car is not running good right now, it started missing under WOT and high boost. I am going to change the plugs and check for pressure leaks in the turbo system, then go from there. Once it is running good again I will take it back to the dyno and get some new numbers.

The black RTV is super messy ( I think I said that before ) anyway, this is the final attached patch after using the heat gun, RTV, and rivets to secure it in place. Sealed air tight and ready to be covered by nice shiny heat shield. If all goes well It could be finished and installed by tomorrow evening. The blue painters tape is there to protect the finish from scratches while working on it.

This is the hole on the bottom half that the patch fits. The patch seals up where I had to makes room for the bottom half to fit into the Edge.

Just received the new patch from the plastic shop. Adding the wood around the base did the trick and the mold is now producing good parts. All that is needed is to cut out the part and attach it to the bottom half with black RTV and rivets. I am ordering 5 of these to get started.

Just shipped the last V2 of the batch today and gearing up for a run of 9 intakes. 5 CF & 4 ABS. Reserve yours now ASAP !!!! Because if the federal legislation passes that starts in the fiscal year 2022, Oct . 1 2021 my hobby will have to become a business. This law requires that any account that has $600 per year move through it be reported to the IRS. It includes checking, savings, PayPal, everything, all accounts. The new law is hidden within the infrastructure bill in an attempt to help pay for it. Even though I have kept all receipts and have not made a profit yet, I will have to have all those receipts logged into a book by day and month, and show profit loss statements, COG. and proof that I don't owe tax . Otherwise the feds will consider the gross amount to be taxable as income. So there is a chance that in just a few weeks this wonderful hobby of mine might be over. Please order before October 1, 2021 to secure an Intake. This law could be unconstitutional as it infringes our 4th amendment rights. If that is the case and the law is overturned by the court, my hobby will continue. Until then best to order before OCT. 1 2021.

I wonder if insulating the OEM snorkel and air box would reduce intake air temp any.
-
Decided to insulate the snorkel today, even one degree drop of intake charge helps. To insulate the snorkel it took the best part of a 1X 2 ft sheet , because I did this, I ordered up another 2 packages of insulation to guarantee there was enough for the bottom half, so far I have ordered 4 packages and used one. This stick on insulation forms very well to curves, but it still took several pieces to cover the snorkel.
-
The heat shield arrived today. It will wrap the entire bottom half of the air box to help insulate the incoming air charge form that oven called the engine bay. I got 4 sq. ft. two 1 ft X 2 ft pieces, I hope that is enough to do the job.

After trimming the mounts I bolted on the snorkel and did test fit. Everything lines up and fits as designed. This proves the templet for the snorkel patch is good and ready to go. This shows where the patch goes, and what it covers. .
