Added switch to back up assist
jrmynorcal replied to jrmynorcal's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I had read that, didnt work for me. -
So sometimes I pull a tent trailer with the 2007 MKX, and backing up is a challenge enough made more difficult when the car is beeping like crazy thinking I'm going to run into something. So today I fixed that. Put the car key into accessory on position (whatever that's called), then reverse, and had my trailer up close to it so the back up beeps would go off. This helped me locate exactly where the speaker was. I wanted to install the switch on the dash somewhere, but being the speaker was near the cargo area, I didnt want to run 2 wires all the way up there. Pulled back the panel, wedged a piece of foam in there to hold the panel back. There was a yellow/black wire and a green/blue. I clipped the yellow. Added a simple on/off toggle switch. Drilled 1/2" hole through panel and mounted the switch. Now when I go to tow, I can throw the switch and the damn thing doesnt beep!

Mercedes Cross Bars installed!
jrmynorcal replied to jrmynorcal's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Yes, though was a bit disappointed they are plastic where they mount to the vehicle ---- the center straight section is metal. -
A lot of newer cars have a spot where you can thread an eye hook in to act as a front tow point. I dont think that exists for my 2007 MKX. I drove through some gnarly Norcal snow up in the mountains this year and almost got stuck. Thinking about next year... Anyone added one? Looking under the front, there are some strong looking cross bars in the front, but didnt want to just start drilling.

I got the 2007 MKX because it was a good deal at my local car dealer. Fully loaded at a price less than some of the newer Edges I was looking at.

Which fuse for switchable power? 2013 Ford edge
jrmynorcal replied to Jesse Pokora's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Manual has a fuse diagram. I have the 2007 MKX, manual said Fuse 33 was unused (and I read on this forum it wasnt always on), but there was a 10amp fuse in there. Just the same, I used the add a fuse adapter (mini version) and ran a power wire to my center console 12V outlet. I have a bluetooth adapter plugged into that 12v outlet so I can stream music and talk hands free. Issue was, since that 12V was always on, my phone would pair with the car even when I was in the house watching TV. I wouldnt hear the phone ring, because it was trying to "ring" in the car, just see I had an incoming call. When I answered, I couldnt hear the person nor could they hear me because of the same reason. Needless to say, I'm happy. -
What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
jrmynorcal replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I made my center 12V port switched via the ignition instead of always on. -
That grill makes all the difference

Replacing the ugly BLUE FORD EMBLEM
jrmynorcal replied to olperez1's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Yeah that blue oval looks out of place. One of the reasons I like my MKX. -
I have the 2007 also ---- and what I did was get this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0176G5TRO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It plugs into a USB port plugged into the 12V socket and the line in. Nice thing is both are located in the center console. I changed that 12V outlet to be switched to the ignition as well. $20 cant be beat too much ---- make sure you get one of those ground loop isolators to remoce static.

Mercedes Cross Bars installed!
jrmynorcal replied to jrmynorcal's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
I have a 24 pound racing surfski that I got them for. -
First post on the forum, I have a '07 MKX which had the naked roof with the BAMR. Looking at rack options I didn't want a rack that "clipped" onto the door jamb. So I purchased the Ford Edge roof rails from an online dealer for $230 shipped. Then was going to buy Thule or Yakima racks but didnt want to pay another $300+ for the cross bars. I was walking around in my work parking lot one day when I noticed a Mercedes SUV had some pretty cool looking Mercedes branded cross bars. Went on eBay and found the bars selling for as cheap as $120 + $20 shipping with a best offer. I offered $100, he accepted and I got them in the mail few days later. Luckily, they fit! Look awesome and only $120. Thought I'd share. See photos attached.
