Thanks everyone for the responses.
I live in California near Monterey. Does gas blended for California typically produce lower mpg ratings. I mentioned the C-Max because my Ford Edge Sport can’t even get half (19 mpg) what the C-Max gets when I drive the Ford Edge Sport conservatively. The longest highway drives are between 10 and 15 miles. City driving is typically 3-4 miles.
I did some searching on the Internet about gas mileage for the Ford Edge Sport and found this. It made me think there was something seriously wrong with my vehicle if someone could get 24 mpg combined while driving aggressively. Based on my current gas mileage numbers I suspect I would be getting something like 12-13 mpg if I drove aggressively.
I used to have the following vehicles:
1990 Toyota V6 5-speed 4x4 SR5. This was my daily driver and used to pick up large items.
2001 Corvette 6-speed convertible with a Z51 suspension. This we used for occasional road trips to the national parks. I typically got 28-29 on the highway and 19 combined. I never drove the car hard, but I liked to run it through the gears on twisty roads.
After 26 years a head gasket in the Toyota went and it was too expensive to justify fixing it. The Corvette was not practical as a daily driver and had not been driven much in the last 5 years due to work and health issues. I decided to get a Ford Edge Sport since it had decent power, I liked the idea of a tuned suspension and there was lots of room in the back with the seats down to carry large objects. I do travel on dirt roads occasionally so the AWD might come in handy, especially in the snow. The Ford dealer gave me an excellent trade in allowance plus $5,500.00 off the Ford Edge sticker price.
I have reset the mpg meter at each fill up and on the last fill up I also wrote down the mileage so I can compare the Edge’s calculation to my calculation at the next fill up. If I can ultimately get 18mpg combined driving it is sport mode while getting on it occasionally I will be satisfied. I am thinking the 24 mpg combined claimed above in the screen shot is nonsense for a Ford Edge Sport that is driven aggressively.
