I agree with FAST380. This sounds like Lane Keeping is on and you're not used to it, or it may be set to its highest sensitivity. I've never had that steering issue with my '16 Edge Sport.

Good news, less good news on the adaptive steering fault fix. Good news: Fixed. Less good news: The techs forgot to reprogram the car so that the adaptive steering works. (The option is grayed out in the instrument cluster.) So I'm stuck with regular power steering until I go back for that fix. I can live with that. First world problems.
-
Yes, my understanding is that the fix is a new steering wheel. I'll update/confirm when I have the Edge worked on on Friday.
-
Mine has come and gone for a month. Took it to the dealer last week, who acknowledged the issue; My Edge is going back in at the end of the week for the fix.
-
Over 10,000 miles since December, I've averaged just under 22mpg, with an 80/20 highway/local roads mix. On longer road trips like the one I'm on now, I get 25-26ish mpg (doing 75mph with mainly highway driving and no stop-and-go) with my Sport fairly well loaded. No complaints.

Awesome info. Thanks!

Hey, rvcjew. How do I get into engineering mode?
-
FWIW, the fault warning light has come and gone several times over the past week, and is now off. Though I can tell the adaptive steering function is no longer working. Since I'm on vacation, I haven't taken the Edge in to the dealer for the steering wheel fix. Will update the thread when that's done with the results. Still loving the Edge, though!

So my '16 Edge Sport w/9400 miles, built 5/16 and bought in December, has joined the Adaptive Steering Fault club. Light came on for the first time ever today. If it stays on, it's off to the dealer for a (hopefully) fix! Sigh.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

Hand washed my Red Edge, even though I had to pull the hose through snow banks (which are rapidly melting this weekend in RI). Now I just have to avoid melting puddles while driving. -
SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
RedEdge16 replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Question for those using CarPlay in the '16+ Edge (after software/hub update): Do you think the Apple Maps screen looks too washed out -- especially at night? The daytime version isn't too bad, but at night, the whole display looks like it has a film over it, making street names and streets themselves hard to see clearly, especially in comparison to the built in Nav, which is crisp and clear. I've tried various permutations of adjusting the screen brightness up and down, but nothing seems to help much. This seems to be something coming from the Apple side of things, since the vehicle display itself has plenty of contrast. I'm running the latest iOS 10.3 beta, BTW, and have tried adjusting settings in iOS for accessibility, brightness/contrast etc. That has no effect on the vehicle display at all. It's bad enough that I've taken to disabling CarPlay and accessing my music/messages etc. using Sync 3. It's not as elegant as CarPlay, but works most times. Thoughts? Suggestions? TIA. -
Congrats! That's a really sharp looking Edge!

2016 Edge, Sync Version 2.0 Apple Car Play
RedEdge16 replied to 2016_Titanium's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I had trim removal tools and followed the steps others had used to pull the hub out from the front. It was a bear. Undoing it from behind (after removing some of the center console trim pieces) seems to be the smoother/easier way to go. Attached is an image of the old hub after I finally got it out (using needle nosed pliers). -
2016 Edge Sport Pricing Data Point

Hey richzx14. If you wait for Ford, the elusive update may never show up. They've been promising this for 2016 models for about a year now. That said, the update IS available and is a fairly easy DIY. This thread has all the info you need :http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/21394-sync-3-and-carplayandroid-auto-information/ Go to page 4 (postings around Dec. 12 or 13) for specifics on getting the update file, which you download to a flash drive and plug the flash drive into the vehicle's USB port. You'll also likely need a new USB hub, since most 2016s came with an older hub not enabled for Apple Car Play. That part is available from Ford dealers for about $55 and can be installed yourself. It's a bit of a pain to get the old hub out; the new just pops right in, though. You don't need the new hub if you're just doing Android Auto. The software update enables that as well. Car Play is convenient, though Apple Maps isn't as graphically nice as the Sync 3 system nav maps. (It looks washed out on my screen, anyway.) Hope this helps. PS: I really like the Kona blue myself. I think both colors look great! -
2016 Edge Sport Pricing Data Point
RedEdge16 replied to RC Mike's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Hey Driv200. I don't know if this will help, but I picked up a leftover 2016 Edge Sport Dec. 1 that had been on the dealer's lot since June (build date, May 5, 2016). Ruby Red, 401A, cold weather package and the BAMR (panoramic roof) for just over 39K. Original sticker was $46,760. Only thing it didn't have that I'd have liked was the adaptive cruise package. I have the 20-in. wheels, not the 21s. This was in southern, Mass. I'd think you should be at least below $39K at this point, but YMMV. I have over 4K miles on it already and LOVE it. No issues to report, though I did have to update the Sync3 system and buy a USB hub to get Apple Car Play working. Good luck. The Ruby Red is a real looker! -
HI folks: Just throwing this out there in its own thread since it could be of interest to owners of 2010-2016 models. Ford plans to offer "an easy retrofit option to add connected features ... with SmartLink, a new piece of hardware that drivers can just plug into their car’s OBD II port. The SmartLink includes a 4G LTE modem..., letting it act as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 8 devices in the vehicle. It also enables remote start, lock and unlock functions, and can send alerts to a car owner via a companion web and mobile app to let them check on car healthy, and get alerts related to security and service requirements." Supposed to be available this summer (though we know how that often doesn't always work out). No word yet on cost. Here's a link to the full story. https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/26/fords-new-smartlink-odb-accessory-adds-connected-features-to-older-cars/

OK, folks. So I live in New England where it gets pretty cold in the winter -- I just cleaned off a foot of snow from last night's storm and it's going down to 6 degrees tonight -- and I'm getting paranoid about turning on the rear window defroster. I've had my Edge just over a month and I've used the defroster a couple of times without issue. I'd kinda like to think this is an isolated issue, but I'd also like to avoid having my rear window implode. Thoughts? Assurances? Cautions?

How do you like Android Auto/CarPlay?
RedEdge16 replied to ben senise's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I am a fan of CarPlay, but have been using it less than I did on my last vehicle because the Apple Maps app is so washed out on the Edge screen that I prefer the built-in nav. The ability to access music and text messages via CP is a plus; but I can do that easy enough by plugging in my iPhone and "disabling" CP on the Edge. I wish the Ford implementation allowed you to leave CP operational, but switch back and forth between Apple Maps and the built-in navigation. My '16 Accord did allow this, but on the Edge it's either/or. I do think the sound quality of music played over the USB connection is better than over Bluetooth, which makes sense, given the BT bandwidth limitations. FWIW. -
SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
RedEdge16 replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Congrats RickA on joining the CarPlay revolution ahead of the curve. ;-) One software install tidbit related to No. 3. I was able to format the flash drive I used to install V2.2/Nav using my MacBook Pro. (I mention this in case any Mac users are checking the thread.) I used Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder) and formatted it as ExFat, which was one of the formatting options. In case the info is useful to others.... -
SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
RedEdge16 replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
This is how it's working for me, too. The CarPlay implementation with Sync 3 is a little different than it was on my last car -- a '16 Accord coupe. There, you could listen to music on the iPhone via CarPlay, but still use the built-in navigation without having to rely on Apple's Maps. I like that solution better because the Apple map is so washed out on my screen that I would prefer to use the built in Nav. The only solution is, as you noted, to disable CarPlay or unplug the iPhone. But if you disable CarPlay (and leave the phone plugged in) and want to turn it back on, changing the preference to "Enable" doesn't automatically re-connect CarPlay. You then have to unplug and plug in the phone to get it working again. It's a bit cumbersome. -
USB Cables - Alternate Cable Route?
RedEdge16 replied to Ray Heath Jr's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
Hey gjb89, this is good to hear. Any more specific advice you can offer as to which trim panel would be best? I mean, is there one at the back of the cubby that would allow a Lightning cable to be run through so the front cubby door could be kept closed? I'd like to remove a trim piece rather than drill a hole if possible. Any advice would be great. TIA. -
SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
RedEdge16 replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Glad to know I'm not alone (and I'm usually pretty good about these things). The old USB hub was in fine shape until I finally took needle-nosed pliers to the two USB ports to get a better grip to yank it out. By that point I figured I didn't need the old one and it was in rough shape already. ;-) I've seen other Ford owners on different message boards having mixed degrees of success getting these hubs out, too. I'll take it as good sign on Ford's part that the hub fits so tightly. The new one works like a charm and I'm glad I don't have to wait for Ford to roll out the update/USB hub combo sometime "soon." I'll be curious what dealers charge for this.... -
SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
RedEdge16 replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
What would have worked best was some kind of "puller" that, once you have the module lifted up, you could then grab each side and pull. Trying to leverage it out from underneath was tough. That said, it was worth the effort, as I had CarPlay on my last car ('16 Accord Coupe) and used it daily. Now, if I can just figure out why the CarPlay map contrast is so light.... I wish Ford gave us access to a contrast setting for the screen. -

Mine are white, which actually matches the long, wide white buttons on either side of the volume control on the radio.
