The Edge dealer trade-in amount was $26,000 In the states of PA and WV you get a tax credit if you replace an existing vehicle with another vehicle as they can see I had already paid taxes on the previous vehicle I only had to pay new taxes on the amount difference. So all-in-all it was a matter of timing with the Fusion rebates and year end closeout sale helped to eliminate the depreciated trade-in value. Less than $500.00 difference and I have a vehicle that functions properly with ZERO issues! Good luck with yours and hope you get the satisfaction you paid for!!

  4. They are the 18" aluminum wheels but you will probably ruin any finish they have on them when you remove the chrome clad plastic as it is adhered to the surface of the 18" wheel.

Ford Develops AWD System In-House By Byron Pope DEARBORN, MI – Ford Motor Co. has developed its own all-wheel-drive system for several upcoming sedans and cross/utility vehicles, rather than expand use of the system supplied by Swedish parts maker Haldex AB, Phillip Kurrle, driveline systems supervisor tells Ward’s. The new system will be offered in V-6 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ (formerly Zephyr) midsize sedans and Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX CUVs. Kurrle says there are several reasons why Ford decided to develop an AWD system in-house, instead of using the Haldex system employed in the bigger Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego sedans and Ford Freestyle CUV. “Trying to get that hardware across the ocean actually would cost us more than making it domestically,” he says. “We were also trying to get something that better fit the application. We were trying to engineer a system that was conducive to the (Fusion/Milan/MKZ) customer (and) flexible enough so we could also put it on the Edge and MKX.” Cost and capacity also were factors in the decision to develop an AWD system in-house, Kurrle says at a media preview here of Ford’s ’07 models. Haldex simply didn’t have the capability to supply the volumes needed for the midsize sedan and CUV programs, Kurrle says, and Ford was able to develop a simpler, more affordable unit. Upcoming Ford Edge to feature internally developed AWD system. The Ford AWD system is similar to that used on the Ford Escape CUV, he says, adding that Ford developed the system independently of its subsidiaries, including Mazda Motor Corp., which engineered its own system. Being able to build the system in great quantities is essential to meeting earlier announced plans to sell 500,000 vehicles with fulltime AWD systems annually in the U.S. by 2007. The Ford-developed technology is similar in many ways to the Haldex system, Kurrle says, without revealing exactly what changes were made. “This is a ‘slip-and-grip’ system. It detects the slip of the front wheels and transfers torque, similar to the Haldex system.” The Ford technology, Kurrle says, is simpler than the Haldex system because it is “more electro mechanical (and) the Haldex is more of a pressure, hydraulic-based” system. Despite the simpler setup, Kurrle is quick to point out that the Ford system is “designed and calibrated so it’s got as good a performance as the Haldex.” The system eventually could make its way onto other Ford vehicles, including the Five Hundred. Kurrle, who was wearing a shirt with the logo “4Drive” at the event here, says the moniker does not refer to a potential brand name for the Ford-developed AWD system. Rather, he says 4Drive is an internal slogan. However, Fusion Marketing Manager Dan Geist says there is some ongoing internal discussion as to whether or not to brand the system, but “nothing has been finalized.”
  6. Calibration error in your favor - Maybe this is just an isolated incident but, would we have the same passion to get it fixed if the odometer only read 54,000 miles when you really traveled 60,000 miles?
  7. X-plan also allows you to 'stack' all incentives being offered if any at the time of purchase. Typically, as an example, you generally are offered 1,000 cash back OR low % financing. Under x-plan guidelines you get the x-plan price PLUS the 1,000 cash back PLUS the low % financing. Of course this is dependent on the vehicle you are interested in and what actual incentives are offered on the vehicle. As AKIRBY said, no dealer add-on fees allowed..NONE!
  8. Do you need to scroll the menu (AUX button) to the "line in" position? I haven't hooked up an Ipod but when using the media button on the steering wheel it will scroll through the radio presets (AM/FM) and the Satellite presets (SAT 1,2,3)and somewhere in there is a 'line in' mode. Should be able to use either the steering wheel controls or the AUX button on the radio face itself. Set to 'Line-in' mode and then try your normal Ipod procedures.

  12. I also like the lip going around the edge of the liner....My only question is I wonder if all their liners incorporate this design because the vehicle in the photo is definitely not the rear quarter of a Ford Edge.
  13. That is correct... Essentially every time you shut off the car it will need 6-8 hours to reset. After a couple of months my F150 TPMS light stays on all the time and then for no reason (regardless of time sitting) it will take the 20-25 miles of driving to 'trip' the warning light again. I have heard of some people making a PVC chamber with a valve seal on it placing the tire sensors inside and then pressurizing it to 34 lbs to fool the sensors into a false 34 lb environment. I cannot say if this is viable or not as I have not tried it but I have heard of people saying they have done it.
  14. During start up that light should come on for about three seconds and than go out. If this happens the system is functioning correctly.
  15. Rickq, Your observation is correct....but it is not the sensors that are 'resetting' the computer TPMS signal. If your car is shut off (anywhere) and is allowed to sit for 6-8 hours undisturbed the computer upon start-up will function as normal. Once it goes through its system checks again (typically the 20-25 mile range) the light will be displayed. Once the light is ON and the car is started before the 6-8 hr window the light will continue to stay ON.
  16. Keep an eye out of the rear 'scratch' guard. I had installed one on my Edge (pics on the forum somewhere) and recently removed it as it started hitting 88-92 degrees in my area and the black strip gets so hot in full sun in those temperatures that the heat generated from the scratch guard would actually 'warp' the bumper cover during daylight hours. Had zero problems with it until the higher temperatures arrived.
  17. It takes 20-25 miles of driving without the sensor(s) to 'trip' the dash panel warning display. How far was the tire shop from your house?
  18. The clay systems are one of the best systems offered to the public in a long time. Body shops have had a similar system available to them for a while. They are very safe as long as you use the lubricant spray that is enclosed with them. I had the best success with the Mothers Car Care clay sytem. Lubricant, clay bar, and wax come in a complete set for around 15-18 bucks USD. Not very fond of most Mothers' products but this one is excellent. Just check the manufacture date of your vehicle as you I would only resort to this technique if your paint is older than 3 months.
  19. To me it doesn't seem much different than a 2003 Explorer limited that I once owned. Although that had the added benefit of the rear glass that would open but weight wise it seems comparable.

  21. Maybe you could dig up your receipt and part numbers for the new sensors and 20" bands and save a few of us some headaches at our dealers.
  22. Rickq, Technically both answers you are getting are correct... First off you need to know which type of sensors you have as there are two types used on the Edge. One is band type with a sensor in a metal plate 3M'd to the inside of the rim and the band is used as an extra security measure to keep it in place. The other is a valve stem sensor that is attached to the valve stem on the inside of the rim. The valve stem sensors can be moved with no problem. The band type sensors can be moved (but very carefully) as not to ruin the metal housing in which the sensor is located. You'll will have to check as right now I don't think Ford even makes a replacement band for a 20" wheel. I think right now they only go up to 18" bands. Just so you know, new bands and sensors through the dealer will cost you between $400.00-$600.00. Or do nothing and live with the indicator light on the dash being constantly 'ON'.   24. My seems to be o.k. after the adjustment.... before I had to keep the steering wheel to the left and if I let go it headed straight for the shoulder. Now I can do the same thing with no noticeable drift unless of course there is a crown in the road..but on a flat surface she now tracks straight. :happy feet:
