  1. Thanks Sergio, that makes sense as sometimes it does sound more like it's underneath the seat. I will have to look at those. At first I thought maybe it was the ebay splash guards I got they actually fit pretty good and even had EDGE stamped on the back too! I took them off and still l have the noise so putting them back on later. We've been hit with a lot of rain lately so will have to wait for a good dry day to get under the car and take a look.
  2. Good Point junehhan. California sucks when it comes to smog and mods to "the system" then again they won't start to check a car until it's over 5 years old. Also I wouldn't want to give the Ford dealers any thing they can point to and say that's not stock your car is no longer covered for x,y, and z. Catch cans make sense logically, but I still think a lot of what they catch either gets burned up or blown out of the exhaust. I think if you stick to decent oil either a good syn blend or full syn and change regularly as recommended you should have no issues. Besides as I said if that much oil was getting burned past the valve you would have a bigger problem, not to mention topping of your oil every month.
  3. The newer ecoboost engines supposedly are built in such a way to minimize the buildup. I hear a few rumblings about build up but if it was a serious issue don't you think we would hear more about it? A lot of it can probably be traced back to cheap oil, bad gas, and poor maintenance. There will always be a little build up on valves regardless. Plus you just have to give the car a good workout like ntrain says. I love the feel of the turbo kicking in now and then. I think the catch cans catch more of the money from your wallet then oil that's going to buildup on your valves....lol jmo though others may swear by them, while other may swear at them... As far as how the engine is so far I like it, hills are no problem, pick up is great, most can't believe it's a 4-cylinder. I have had it filled with people and luggage and it didn't seem to change the power at all. You do need to adjust some to the turbo lag but not noticeable to me now once you know what to expect.
  4. Question what thin pipes are you talking about? I have a rattle when driving faster than 60mph it does not happen when someone is sitting in the passenger side though so sort of an odd issue. Going to bring it in to have it looked at when I get my first oil change but if I can figure it out first I can tell them what to replace or tighten.
  5. Good idea enigma-2. That's similar to the water idea but probably even better to use ice for faster cooling.
  6. Just modified the stock puddle lights with a brighter/whiter LED light. Didn't do a video or before after since I didn't know how it would go but happy with the result. I kept hearing people saying you have to cut the lense off with a hacksaw or blade but you really don't have to. I simply took goof off and dripped it around the housing where it meets the lens then let it sit for 5 minutes. I then ran an utility knife around the outside then applied the goof off again then let it sit another 5 minutes. After that I was able to pry the cover off using the utility knife once you get a point where the cover lifts off you can work the whole cover off with little to no mess! Thanks to a post on another forum and a few other posts/recommendations here. I pulled the Festoon light out then installed the LED's (see photo) into the light. The LED's I have didn't snap in as they were a little big but once I got them in and were working I applied a little superglue to the tips so the light would stay in place. Finally I epoxied the cover back on. Obviously when I need them replaced I will have to get new ones but this works for now. I may just get the daytime brightlites brand later anyway. (Maybe for Christmas who knows) just figured I would try this to see how it worked out. Once the epoxy set up I reinstalled them in the mirrors and was good to go! The whole job took a little over a hour but most of the time was the waiting for things to loosen up or dry. Plus I did each light one at a time rather then both at the same time. Here are a few pics. They look brighter than in the pics, and really lit up the garage. The lights are via ebay...here's the link if you are interested. EBAY FESTOON
  7. Cleaned my leather seats, man that light interior gets blue jean stains fast! Have leather sealer on the way, till then keeping them covered. Modded my puddle lights. Now they are nice and bright! Was fairly easy job to boot.

Now it's a bright white light not dull yellow.
  11. Did you let the protector and car sit in the sun prior to install. I don't have the Ford OEM protector but I hear it's pretty thin. When I put mine on the instructions recommended you let both the protector and bumper warm to 70+ degrees then make sure you start from the middle and work out. That helps to reduce the bubbles. I am honestly not sure what you do once it's on other than what you are doing poke the holes and press out the excess air. You may be able to shrink the protector by running cool water on it right after but can't say that would work or not. I also have heard of people slicing a very thin slit with a razor but then you will probably end up scaring your bumper so that could be a bad idea. Since it's already on it maybe too late to use a little extra adhesive tape in the middle portion. Sorry probably not much help but these are all things that I read before purchasing the one I ended up getting. I hear more complaints about the OEM protector. Plus I don't like the fact there is no protection on the upper lip of the bumper. The on I purchased does and it makes a difference.
  12. nice deal will have to get some for my wifes car. Still only have 1100 on my Edge. Still on the fence as to whether or not change my oil at 2k just because it's new. Dealer does the first one free at anytime, but may do this myself and save his freebie for 5k then I get another freebie at 7500. Most of what I read now says eh we were way over changing oil back in the day. I used to be religious about every 3k but oil is different now better formula's and life make oil last a long time even for cars during the break in period. I looked at the oil level this weekend the oil is still very clear.
  13. Welcome to the forum. Nice color don't see many of the Brown ones out there. That color might look pretty nice with the grill blacked out and black rims. Not real sure about the other problems but as far as the wheels go. I have seen people plastidip them (not too much into that look) others vinyl wrap them. Only issue for me is when you have to replace the tires. You could always get a good set of rims/tires then sell the ones you have, to make up the cost.
  14. Yep those bike pedals will get you every time! I know because I had a few on my old car as well. You know if you find a pair of thick wool socks put them over the pedals when hauling the bikes they help. Another thing would be to cut out a piece of foam to fit over the pedal closest to the car. Foam is cheap and easy to carve out with a utility knife.
  15. So you wouldn't think twice about a $3000 mechanics bill? Can I be your mechanic?....lol joking. Honestly, I have purchased a plan for only 1 of my last 6 vehicles back then it cost even less. The car I did purchase it for I ended up using and then some. So that paid for itself. The big sell for me from Ford was the cost of maintenance AND repairs all of which add up over 7 years even for a decent car. If the avg cost to repair and maintain a vehicle (minus gas and tires) equates to even $260 a year I am break even. If the national average holds true and it's $400 then I am way ahead. Granted I am looking at the cost of 1 car not 5. To me buying a new car is not an investment, keeping it running and properly maintained is. We can look at dollar costs and numbers and statistics all day, this vs that, etc. Sometimes it's not a matter of money alone but of preference and convenience as well. It just depends on what angle you want to approach it. Was getting the plan a good idea? For me...yes, I will have other things to spend money on down the road. Spending a little of the money that I have now for piece of mind and knowing I won't bare the brunt of a cost for a huge repair (hopefully not) will help me plan future purchases and savings in the long run. Plus, I just love the fact that i can drive into a dealer tell them xyz is wrong hand them the key. Come back sign my name and drive off.... as my deductible is zero. I agree it's a gamble, Ford is gambling I won't need anything major done to the car in 7 years and I am gambling that I will need it. If something does go wrong I will be glad I purchased it. If it doesn't I am still glad because that means I have had a reliable car and Ford got a little bonus for doing so. To be honest the cost was not so great that I can't feed the kids.....
  16. Looks nice 2Fast. I may end up hauling stuff in the back so I wanted that extra protection on the outer lip. I couldn't tell you how many times someone helped me put stuff in my old SUV and bam right into the top edge of the bumper. Wish I had a pic to show that. There was a few times I had to do it myself and ended up messing up the bumper too. Then again my old car was just that, an old car and kind of a beater. I am sure with my Edge I will be more careful at least until it's paid for....haha. I did want to get the OEM version at first, I like the look of it, but functionally for me personally it would probably not protect the area that is my biggest concern. When I see mine it does not look much like an add-on. The lip originally had a 90degree angle, but I put it up a little higher so the protector lip would conform better to the 45 degree angle of the bumper lip. Probably also helped that I left both in the sun for awhile so they were nice and warm by the time I installed it.
  17. That's the one I got RBP-005. Got mine on Ebay. I must have looked at the right time the seller had it on ad that week for 61 bucks. about 10 bucks off. You should be able to find an online coupon for Carid. Ebay right now they are running about 71-80 with shipping.
  18. Thanks for the info WWash. Haven't notice any scratches on the sills but will have to look at those too. The Dawn protector is about 1/8 of an inch or so and seems a lot sturdier. The back gate when closed actually has no gap since it closes right to the top of the guard. I like it that way. The one to get is the RBP-005 for the 2016. I found mine on a sale via Ebay for $61.00 I check today its back up to $71.00. Wish I would have put it on my old SUV that bumper was a mess when I got through with it. Just need something to protect the plastic sill piece. When I put it on I just took all the vertical tape strips off first then in the middle I split the backing of two long horizontal strips and pulled about 6" on each side so they would stick out from the protector once I put it on. If you just set it on the bumper without pressing down on it you can place it on the bumper and bend it to fit. The curvature is not exact so you have to slightly bend it around. I made sure the right was stuck down then the left then checked the alignment once it was good i pressed from the center out. Also they state the bumper should be 70 degrees or warmer so if you don't do it on a warm day make sure you heat up the surface with a blow dryer. I had a nice sunny day and parked the car outside and also put the protector in the sun so both were warm to the touch when I installed it. To line it up there is a small arrow in the center of the protector. I just pointed that at the latch and it worked out great.
  19. If the car only has 10,500 Ford is paying for it. Especially if the dealer did the work. According to warranty you used "certified technicians" to repair your vehicle the warranty is still valid regardless of if the cover was removed or not. There should be no questions as to who's paying it should just be a matter of you drop it off and they fix it. If anyone is trying to make you pay you need to refer them to the 3 year/36k bumper to bumper warranty. That should end any discussion of who pays.
  20. Hey 2008explorer. I hear you on the insurance aspect of it. My hope is i don't have to use it but I sleep better at night knowing I have it. I looked at it the same way you did. Knowing it's there and the deductible is zero makes it that much better. Though I paid a little more than you did I do have the maintenance and repairs included. Ford is taking the risk you purchased the car that went through production and was put together so well it won't breakdown. Just want to make sure I am covered in case I get that car that has a part that happens to fail a year outside of warranty and not get hit with a big repair bill. With all the tech in the Edge what seems like a small repair can cost a lot of money. What costs $500 today could cost $900 next year, you just never know. Just look at how much it costs to repair or replace the water pump, a relatively cheap part in the duratech 35 engine. The water pump is built into the engine, and basically run via the timing chain, to replace it because of a leak is around $1500 to $2500. They do not typically fail but if you end up being one of the lucky ones, you're hosed (no pun intended). One guy said it the best water pumps eventually fail just hope it doesn't when you own the car. Honestly for the 2015 and 2016 Edges can Ford even predict how much maintenance or repairs will cost? It's like anything else these type of insurance plans do, keep a record of past costs and repair issues then plug it into a formula. I am actually hoping I don't even need it because if I don't that means I had a nice reliable car, and Ford just happened to get a bonus for selling me such a great vehicle. I will more than likely keep my Edge the full 7 years or until the warranty runs out, and if I happen to get another car, my daughter will probably get the car along with the warranty, so she won't have to worry about those costs. I think if I leased or kept cars for only a 2 or 3 years then I would opt not to get the ESP, as the factory warranty would still be good for the time I own the car. It's all about where you are in life as to what decisions you make. If something makes sense to you at that time then by all means go with your gut.
  21. Hey Oneedge. Thanks for those pics..they actually don't look as bad as i thought they might. I do still wish they were a bit rounder on the outside. but they don't stick out like a sore thumb either. I have seen a lot of close up pics but have been wanting to see the full car with them on to see how much they stand out. Hmm now I have even more to think about.... 1 hour sounds about right 15 min per wheel. I know they simply pop in the existing holes once you get the pins/clips out. Probably the same as putting in the deflector. I purchased the AVS a lot cheaper than from Ford. was a great fit and screws right into existing. I like to be able to install stuff and not drill or modify the car. Hey it also looks like you tinted the back and front side windows. do you mind me asking what percentage you got for the back. The back on mine is tinted from the factory but was thinking of going darker. Where I am the front can only go 70% so honestly can't tint the front though I could go 50% and hope I don't get a ticket but then I am out that $ if I have to remove it.
  22. Hey WWash. I am going to be doing the same with my door edges. Hopefully it won't be too bad. how was it once you bent the film around the edge of the door? I notice the inside of the door has the lip for where the door was welded. Did you use the type that is already sticky or the type with the water activated? Also are you going to put on a bumper protector? I put the Dawn on mine with the lip. Took me about 15 min. Found it was easier to do what some recommended peel the tape back so you can pull it along each side when you have it in place. It gives you some time to line it up correctly. I have some pics of it in my photo gallery. I found what worked for me was to push from the center out I did the right side first then the left. I know a few people mentioned they had bubbles when it sat in the sun for a while. We had a hot weekend here and had it parked in the sun for half the day and no bubbles so I must have done something right. Also another post/youtube video said to cut slits in the tape. I didn't do that figured I didn't want any place for water to get underneath the guard. The door does close over the top of it so doubt water would get in at least not from the front side.
  23. Only issue with that is they don't have the Husky for the 2016's yet. Only one's I found out there were the OEM or Ebay stuff from China. I did get some all weather mats from Maxliner they fit like a glove. but outside may not be as bad since the lower half of mine is the black plastic. I hear running boards can help too but more so for the front wheels the rear basically seem to just project that short bumper section at the back of the car. chefduane i hear you about the pictures took me a little bit of looking but you have to go to the photo gallery, Select the upload button (upper right). Then Select album if you don't have one then you have to create on then select it. The thing I had to do was use the simple uploader as the advanced one didn't seem to work. for me so you have to load each picture one at a time. No worries on the pics though. as we have different body styles I have seen the guards on the 11-14 Edges. Like the look of the Husky brand on that body style. Ford's as I say are too square.
  24. I am on the fence about getting mud/splash guards. I like the added protection they give but with the 19" wheels I don't feel a big need for them either as the tires do not extend out from the wheel well. Only real issue would be the front wheels when turning. I like the clean look of the Edge without them and can't seem to find many pics of Edges with the mud/splash guards installed, so I can't really see if these would stand out like a sore thumb or not. So I figure I would throw this out to the forum. What do you think of the OEM mud guards on the Edge? To square? Stick out too far? Ugly? At $90 for a set seems a little pricey for a piece of molded plastic, though it is cheaper than repairing a gouge from a rock or something being thrown up the side of your car.
  25. Funny we looked at the Santa Fe, and Sorento. I liked the Sorento features but when I sat in it. The headroom was lacking, once inside I felt like if I hit a bump in the road I would be bumping my head on the roof of the car. The pull up shades up front were nice, wish Ford had that (hint for Ford). Also to me the Sorento front end looked nice but the back was kind of ugly. The Santa Fe in front almost looks like the Edge but it looked small and crampy to me. I never drove it but hear Hyundai is a solid vehicle. Plus I didn't like the interior much of either the Kia or Hyundai, even the other American made cars were kind of plane Jane inside. We decided why not buy American, or at least American brand. I think the Edges are made in Mexico now? I just felt like it was time to ditch the imports and give them a shot. Plus the Ford Edge exterior is stylish when I see it parked out in front of the house compared to other SUV's on my street it is the best looking one out there (though I am biased). The interior of the Egde is clean and classy. I really liked the look of the Titanium and Sport level interiors. No matter what else I looked at I always went back to the Edge.
