I would feel lucky either way....don't use it have a great reliable car. Use it I am covered and no more expense other than that little amount I paid up front. You are correct AHNC though there is the added benefit of being able to sell your vehicle and pass the warranty on. Not sure about anyone here but if I was to purchase from a private party and they had a warranty included I would purchase that car over one without that warranty. I am also told if I trade in or decide to sell the car without the warranty/service plan I can get some money back toward a down payment on the next car. Well I've said my peace and thoughts...good luck all. Just keep in mind do what you feel is right for you.

Well whatever. As I said before and I think this is the point people are missing is I am stating it's a matter of personal preference. Can I bare the cost of an expensive repair: Yes Do you honestly think $1500 in the bank with interested is going to net you enough for that family vacation in 5 years? Doubt it. If you spend $1500 of your own money on a vacation was it really "free"....nope. If I have an $800 repair out of $1500 would $700 cover a family vacation? Seriously doubt that. I realize the protection plan is not free but I also didn't expect it to be. That's IF I don't have repairs. There's no puzzle here, I know insurance is a gamble and I also know what I spent, the thing is that personally I am okay with that. Maybe others are not and feel it's a waste of money, if that's the case the choice is simple....don't purchase it. Also I am not saying every vehicle will have issues. I don't purchase extensions for all my car's either, just so happened to do that on this one. True in the long run these plans will not pay off but if you purchase them now and then for piece of mind I don't feel it's that big of a deal. Honestly we can anal-yze it all day long and throw up costs and figures and estimates and predictions, make charts and graphs, the world could even end in 5 years, but if someone wants to purchase the plan they should do so. I do love the ride and looks of my Edge. The entire reason this forum exist is because of the car, it's also here for people to bitch about things that irritate and go wrong with them as well as say what's great about them. Do I 100% trust Ford quality right now? no. To each their own, I say if you are on the fence and worried about Fords quality get it. If not then don't.. it's either A or B make a choice and go with your gut. If you are going to lament about spending money on a service plan or warranty extension that may or may not be used then stay away from it. I am a gambler. I realize there are times I can walk into a casino and turn $100 into thousands, and other times I will be out all the money I budgeted. The biggest issue is you have to be okay with the outcome win, lose, or draw. If it gives you heartburn then don't go to the casino, go to the park instead. That said I can self insure and pay that expensive repair out of pocket or pay a little now and know if I should lose, and need that major repair I am protected. That's JMO obviously opinions may vary. The money has been spent, it doesn't mean I can't make more...lol.

True chefduane but just figured I would point out that the statement gave a perfect example of why some people purchase them. As much as I hate to say it I have not either but over a period of time I did. I have had a pretty good experience with purchasing a plan. The only other time I bought one it was for a used Nissan I purchased a warranty for $895. I had the car break down. The warranty covered towing to the dealer, the cost of repair, and the cost of my rental car for 3 days. Prices for that kind of work here aren't cheap. i know the repair was over what I paid. I had also used the warranty on one other occassion to me it was totally worth it. I think I spent a total of $50.00 I know the repairs totaled to over $1000. I also had an Acura it was 1500 miles out of warranty the ECM went out on it, the bill would have been $1800 I would have had to pay that out of pocket, HOWEVER I was lucky the Acura rep for the area happened to be in the garage that day and said they would cover it. I was lucky on that one. Acura part at that time was 1200 bucks... As I said at the end of my post if I don't have to use it yeaaahhh Ford can consider the 1500 a tip for building a great car. We already spend 25-45k on this vehicle. I think 1500 is a small percentage to have breakdown/repair protection. But as I said it boils down to personal choice. You either love it, hate it, or are on the fence.

Honestly I think if you feel you want the extended warranty or service plan I say go for it. I am hoping not to fork out a big chunk of change on a car repair just before I take my family vacation or have an expensive repair I may need on my home, etc. It's not that I can't afford it. I look at it from a different view point... would you rather have the $ to spend on your vacation doing something fun or paying the mechanic to repair your car? This topic has been discussed before. Some swear by it, others feel it's not worth it. Whatever point of view or argument you have, for or against, it simply boils down to personal choice. Ford has not proven it's reliability to me yet, so I purchased it. Also my thought has always been you get insurance paying the whole way hoping you don't have to use it. If I do need it I'll rejoice in the fact that I have it. If I never use it then Ford can consider it a bonus for building such a fine piece of machinery! I really enjoy my Edge and I enjoy it more knowing a major repair down the road won't mean a trip to the bank. I have only owned 5 cars my entire 50 years of life. I purchased a warranty on one it payed off! this is the second one I have purchased. Actually there's a perfect example made in the posts of why people purchase these. If someone freaked out about a $2k repair bill but could that by purchasing a $1500 warranty wouldn't that mean they are $500 ahead?

Back from a long trip, also posted on another topic. Drove from Bay Area, CA to Olympia, WA. Filled the tank before leaving and once at halfway point, had 1/4 tank left when I got there. Average mileage with the Ecoboost was 27-28 MPG going up. Coming back was 28-29 MPG. Think it was a good representation of highway driving through flat farmlands and mountain roads. Obviously the more downgrades on the trip the better the mileage but was fairly pleased with the mileage. I drove up drove around for a week and only filled up 6 times for the entire trip, I know have about 8600 miles on the car. Seems like my mileage inched up some now with combined hwy/city driving now at around 23-24 MPG based on the meter.

Just got back from a trip up I-5 California to Washington. I have the ecoboost and it performed well. I averaged 28MPG heading up and 29MPG coming back. Power was fine through the mountains and driving through the rain and wet roads. I filled up with super the entire time and never had an issue. I have only 8600 miles on the car. I have also driven a rental Titanium Ecoboost AWD 600+ miles, it was a nice ride. Though I did notice the AWD does seem more heftier when cornering and turning a corner. It took some time to adjust to how it handled. I am like you I hear about the V-6 and the water pump thing makes me nervous. I would think cleaning the heads/valves maybe cheaper than changing the water pump but who knows. Have not gotten there yet. I am sure there could be a 1 in 500,000 failure rate with the water pump but the fact you could be that "lucky one" whose water pump fails is enough to detour that purchase, make sure I purchase an extended warranty and sell it before it expires. Either way for the torque of the EB as opposed to the 3.5L I would take the EB any day. The big seller for me was taking the 3.5 and the EB on the same steep hill and how much harder I had to push the 3.5 up the hill.

After market hitch with hands free tailgate

I thought I read somewhere on this forum that you just have to move the sensor. I was looking into this as well and could have sworn I saw a video where they moved the sensor. But I did find this in my search, may shoot for this one. Just need it for a bike carrier not towing anything with it. Also etrailer has this posted it's for the 2015 but 2016 should not have changed enough to make a difference: Question: Hi there, I am just wondering if using this trailer hitch , if the kick power lifgate on the 2015 Ford Edge needs to be disabled? I have been told by some people that if the hitch is the right design it will still work but others believe that it will need to be diabled. Thanks in advance for your help. Expert Reply: I spoke to my contact at Curt and he said that the hitch part # C13224 will still allow the powered liftgate of your 2015 Ford Edge to function. He said that as long as you don't put your foot directly under the hitch opening it will still function. -
For anyone looking for the 2015-17 underside diagram:

I read a post on the mustang forms where a guy had blocked the drain and the door filled up with enough water to start leaking into the cab. I did look at the doors and they do have weather stripping on the cab at the bottom of the door but it does not seem like it seals much. From posts on this site it seems like not all the weather stripping around the Edge really seals well. I guess my thought would be remove the existing and try a larger size. I have splash guards on my Edge and it seems to help a little. I don't get nearly as much build up as I see in the pic. Then again I am in an area where it just rains, there's no snow or red dirt (HI) either. Hey T0lkman I am about an hour north of you. Anyway looking at what you have on the door maybe you have a bad seal higher up in the door. I haven't noticed any dirt on my Edge along the back door seam just a little at the bottom area near the drain. Do you get a lot of wind noise from the upper part of your doors? I went to Fremont Ford and they realigned my passenger side doors as both were off. I should have taken a pic of it but once they realigned them they line up perfect. Maybe check how well the seams match on the doors if they are off and it's under warranty bring it in and have them fixed. Highly recommend their body shop.

I posted else where in the forum but I found out what was causing the rattle issue. The large felt/fiber panel that covers the underside of the car below the cab, was missing a pin and one was lose/broken. I was able to push the lose one in for now and will have to bring it in so the dealer can replace the pins. I did the best I could doing a temporary fix and can say I don't hear that noise anymore. The pins in this panel are large gray pins that hold the cover off the body, so they are not the smaller black pins you'll find in the fenders. I thought maybe the culprit was the plastic panels as described in other posts but these were fine and not lose at all. When I started poking around underneath that's when I notice the lose pin was not in straight and just kind of hanging there and the other completely gone. I didn't see that anything hit the bottom of the car so it was probably lose to begin with and then over time fell out. who knows but at least I tracked the problem down.
-
Follow up. I guess it was just muffled more when people are in the car. I found the source of my problem. The large pressed felt/fiber cover under the middle of the car had 1 lose push pin and one missing push pin in it. so it was flapping around but only after hitting about 55-60MPH. I was able to push the loose pin back in for now and then secure it until I can get it into the dealer to replace the missing pin and the one that I think is broken or just not in correctly. I don't know if the one pin came out or it was just never there to begin with but the lose portion was on the passenger side. This cover is one unit that goes from the passenger side to the drivers side if that makes sense. Either way I have to get that fixed or it will probably just shake loose again.

There is weather striping you can purchase called metro supersoft it's a larger strip but should work. I have had this issue with other cars and brands as well, so don't think this is unique to Ford. Also I think a lot of it has to do with the bottom of the door being a little flatter than most cars. Like others have said when I clean my car I do wipe down the inside of the doors and jams simply to help eliminate dirt getting on the interior. I have/had to do this with my other cars as well. Not the best solution but you can try the weather stripping above hopefully it's not so big it hinders the door closing, I would just hope it doesn't look out of place once you put it on. The other issue with adding weatherstripping is blocking the drain holes at the bottom of the door. In your picture they are covered with the black tab. If those are blocked you could have a bigger issue than just dirt at the bottom of the door so make sure you either cut out a drain or do not cover those holes.

That really sucks. I had a friend who purchased a Ford Fusion who had to use the lemon law here in California. Though it was for engine issues. They purchased the vehicle back from him after a lot of bickering back and forth. Be ready to argue your case and document all the times you bring it in for the same issue. It's kind of sad when something like this happens. It doesn't give faith in what could be a great product! I have had imports all of my life with the exception of my first car/truck and that was a Ford F-250 supercab, it was a boat to drive but safe.

Actually got under the car yesterday when I got home everything is tight so wondering if it could be the lower plastic molding on the door. I notice the one on the back door is a little bit loose not a lot but enough that at 60MPH plus I could see it could wiggle enough to make a little noise. Also now that I really got a look at it the lower panels have the light weight bolt on them so they are actually not pins. The pins you showed me are in the wheel well in the front. Maybe I will check those too. We had a windy day yesterday and I could hear it a little more so think this could turn into one of those issues, people get irritated with. more than likely i will continue to bring it to the dealer until they can figure it out granted I get the time to. otherwise if I can just track it down and solve it that would be even better.

Enigma-2 those should be the ones. I have not pulled any out from the shield underneath the vehicle. I have from the wheel wells to install splash guards. Those came out and went back in without issue. The pins are easily removed. I just was thinking I could either insert a screw anchor and use a torx or metal screw to just tighten the cover. I just figured with all the rattle talk someone may have done this already. Still first option for me is take it to the dealer but I guess I will have to wait until it's more consistent. You know how it goes take it in no one hears anything. Thanks for that link too BTW I may order some just so I have them on hand. Guess my last option pull it out and figure it out myself. If I do i will post it.

Has anyone found a good replacement for the push pins that seem to come lose underneath the Edge? I hear fixes like putting a larger push pin in, and using 3m tape to keep the panel from rattling. I was just wondering if anyone knows the size of the original pin or if there is a way to set up something similar with torx or just regular screws like they use for the lower engine cover? I would think the push pins would start to loosen again over time and if there was just away to pull the panel insert or use a metal screw instead of a plastic pin the fix might be one that lasts longer or is more of a permanent fix. Any ideas? I get the rattle now and then it's pretty faint but not consistent it's kind of an odd issue, but hearing others comments I want to track this down or fix it before it's one of those "things" that the dealers can't figure out. I would assume it's probably the cover that's doing it. Seems like it's the passenger side then again these noises tend to sound like they come from one area but are actually from another.

Still only have 6300mi on my ecoboost I do a combination of city/hwy with an avg of about 21 to 22 mpg right now (according to the meter). I just did the first oil change and tire rotation and inflating tires to 35psi. Will be taking two long road trips so I will see if it improves. I would hope it does. Been using top tier 89 to 91 octane fuel since I got it. Mainly 91. Remember renting a 2015 Ecoboost and getting more like 26-28MPG when doing mainly hwy driving, sure hoping I get about the same, then again the rental had about 14k on it already. I hear the octane boosters are a waste but would be curious to see if I put the premium in and added an octane booster. Probably not worth it but never know.

Now that I've had my 2016 Titanium Ecoboost for 6 months. Likes: Ride, comfort, features, handling, 12 speaker stereo, power (even for the Ecoboost), looks, I actually get a lot of looks and compliments on how nice this car is. Sync once you figure it out...lol. Dislikes: Blind spots front pillars do block some view when turning just need to be extra cautious. The horn thing if you get out of the car when running, going to look into that Forscan. Having to wash it, it takes a good long time to get this sucker cleaned, dried and waxed, but it will never see an automatic car wash! It's not a perfect car but don't think I have ever seen a car with zero "issues" it's all a matter of your preference and what you can or cannot tolerate.
-
Well finally got the car in for the first oil change still only 6300mi on it but taking a few long trips soon so had it done already. The dealer realigned the doors on the passenger side. I had noticed they were off slightly and the noise seemed to come from that side along with wind noise at higher speeds. The body shop guy seemed to think if the doors were readjusted it would help and it did. Less wind noise and feels a lot more solid on that side. Not to mention they did a great job! If you are getting a lot of wind noise check the alignment of the doors between the back of the front door to the front of the back door. if there is a skew have them readjust the doors it may help.
-
Think it's the norm, mine is similar don't really notice it as an issue. I have a feeling the way it opens if it was even with the top it may not open correctly. Could just be the way it is who knows. As long as it doesn't rattle which I hear is a problem with the center console in various areas.
-
Well if it's still under warranty I would take it back in until they fix the wind noise problem I hear a few people that get this have the weatherstripping replaced and it's better. If you don't like the way it rides then it's just not the car for you. To me going from a small feel every bump in the road SUV to the Edge is like going from a Pinto to a Limo....lol. My thought though is if you really can't stand it put it up on one of those lease transfers sites and let someone else take over the lease. Couldn't hurt.

Welcome wow love that color! Don't see many around here with this. As I remember it that is one of those "custom" colors you pay a little extra for. Awesome choice. Also, with the ceramic leather color get some good leather sealer because you will notice that the blue or black in jeans will start to stain the seats. I got the Meguiar's sealer kit and it works great. You will just need to wipe them down every so often to remove and color that bleeds on the seats.

I wouldn't give up on the Edge. Rattles can be a pain but I would take a rattle over broke down on the side of the highway. It's actually pretty mild if I turn the radio to regular listening volume I don't hear it, but I know it's there. Sometimes when they uses these plastic rivets and lower grade ties things can come lose over time. I had a rattle in my Mitsubishi found and fixed it. No doubt I will track this one down too. It's funny how you can hear a noise all day long take it to a dealer or mechanic and they don't hear a thing....lol maybe they work around so much noise they are deaf. There are stethoscopes with long tubes made just for diagnosing rattles and noises maybe suggest they use one, or better yet take the service manager for a ride and tell him when and what you are hearing. That way he can better relate the sound to the technician. Even though there are some minor flaws here and there I wouldn't trade the ride and comfort of my Edge. If you are getting a lot of wind noise check the door alignment on both sides, also I have heard that the weatherstripping on the Edges can be off and simply replacing or adding to this will help. Don't have that problem though. Michelin are a great choice!
