Finally!!! My Satin Edge... enjoy :)
Loosecannon replied to Loosecannon's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Hey sabtaj1, Just saw the pic of your edge, looks good! I see you did your grill in gloss black. That looks good cause it matches the rest of the vehicle. Mine is flat black and my wheels are flat black. I'm gonna pass on the sport headlights, since i just put brand new headlights on mine. Plus if i go with the 2011 side mirrors, i'm sure those will cost me a penny. My edge is lowered with H&R springs, and i love it. The ride is alittle firmer, but the little bugger rips thru the twisties! Your edge and my edge would look sick parked next to each other! lol Looks good brother, keep up the mods! Oh and i just added my LED's back on my front bumper. Moved them to follow the contour of the fog log bezel, and i love it! They used to be mounted in a straight line above the fog light, running horizontal. Check out the pic. -Cannon -

My tails are tinted so wouldn't need the tails, but those side mirrors are pretty cool. I'll find out tomorrow if they will work. -CAnnon -

It's like any new paint job,.. your suppose to wait 3 months before ya wax it, but yes, you do wax it. The clear coat is where the satin finish lies. Instead of them using a glossy clear coat, they add flatteners to it, to make it how it looks in my pics. But the paint is fully protected with the clear coat. You would NOT want to buff it with a buffer tho,.. cause that would cause it to be shiney,... and if you used a buffer in just one area, you'd end up with a shiney area on a dull car. Just the opposite of dulling an area on a shiney care. Where abouts do you live at Sabtaj1? -Cannon -

I had tinted headlights, and my tails are tinted. I put new headlights on my Edge and am staying away from the tint for the fronts,... knocks down my brightness too much at dark. The satin paint job should hold up just as well as any other paint job. I have noticed that when its dirty it still looks good tho... since it's not a shiney car that is dirty, and losing it's shine,.. it's already NOT shiney,.. so alittle dirt doesn't seem to be to noticeable. Long story on the paint job,.. but it was done by a friend who owns a bodyshop as well,.. so i doubt you'd get the kind of deal that i got. But i believe a paint job like mine would run ya around the same as any other paint job. And my Edge does have a clear coat. -CAnnon -

That sounds cool! I wonder if i could just do a vinyl overlay for the headlight..... as for my taillights they already have a dark tint on them. -

Thanks guys! Thought about doing the red calipers.... buuuuuut.... i think it is alittle "played" out. Also, i have a "murdered" out theme going, and it would kinda go against it. Don't get me wrong,.. i love the red caliper look, and seriously thought of doing it. -Cannon -
Finally!!! Thought i'd start a new post so people didn't have to keep scrolling thru the past post to get to the pics. I have much better pics coming, these were taken with my iPhone. Hope you guys like. I LOVE it. It turns heads big time! Even i was amazed at how many people have been checking it out. -Cannon

Loosecannon replied to Loosecannon's topic in Accessories & Modifications
It would have cost me ALOT more to have it wrapped, and there isn't anyone around here who does that. A paint job with a clear coat is always a better option. I did think about the wrap earlier ttho. -Cannon I should be picking it up today, finished. And wil have pics posted tonight or early tomorrow. -

Ok, we finally got the right color picked out. After about 10 repaints on this fender, they finally got the darkness, and the sheen the way i wanted. In the pic attached is the front fender we have been painting, and repainting, and repainting, and.... anyways, finally.... the left section of the fender is what the color will look like. The right section of the fender is actually two other paint jobs, with different levels of gloss to them. So again,... the left portion of the fender is what the final color will be. The Edge goes into the booth tomorrow for the entire paint job! -Cannon -

They are still working on getting the shine to the right level.... i go back tomorrow to check the test panel that they keep repainting to see if they have it where i want it. They shot it once and it was too dull,... kinda funny tho, it still had a clear cloat, and when ya handled the fender and touched it and everything, finger prints and smudges didn't show up. Kinda cool. Yes you do need to make sure with a matte finish that you DO NOT buff it, or you will make it shiney where it should be matte. Wouldn't say you need "special" cleaners tho... of course at a mercedes dealership, i'm sure they say you need special everything FOR everything. lol -CAnnon -

FOR THOSE WHO CARE: Checked in at the body shop today,.. they shot one fender as a test panel to see if i liked the color,... it was alittle too shiney and had to much metallic in it. Had them reshoot it with a flatter matte finish and knock the metallic out of it.... rechecked it 3 hrs later when the paint had dried, and we are almost there! I was telling the paint guy that i wished it was just a hair darker and a hair less shiney even still, so he places a paint sample right next to it that he had found, and BAM that was it! So he is reshooting the fender for the 3rd time with that last color that was on the paint sample, and i'll check it out on Monday. I'm pretty sure it is gonna be exactly what i'm looking for, in which case they will then shoot the whole car, and i should have it in my hands by Friday of next week. Well, thats all there is to update you guys on. If the fender looks good on monday, i'll take a pic and post it to give you guys a idea of what's in store. -Cannon -

No worries. You are probably older as well. If your the age of my dad then i'm sure you share the same ideologies as him. Back when my dad was young,... the cheapest car you could buy came with black wheels... so in his opinion why would ya PAY to make them look that way.... same kinda applies to the flat paint job as well. It kinda goes against why you buy a "new shiny" car. But it is a new modern trend that many find appealing. But, to each their own. Don't get me wrong,.. i love a shiny car with chrome wheels as well... i'm just on this blacked out, satin kick.... it's just my thang' Respectfully, -Cannon -

I'm keeping my wheels... they will remain the same, flat black. I went in today and picked out the color. A test panel will be shot tomorrow,.. if it looks good, i'll give it the go-ahead, and the vehicle will be painted Monday,.. might take a few days after that, then i should have it back..... also, the little side pillar pieces will be painted the Dark Satin grey as well. Front grill will remain flat black, and the fog light bezels as well. Thats the latest news as of now -Cannon -

Thanks guys, yes i agree, and think with the body lines of the Ford Edge, that it should pull off that type of paint job excellent! The up keep and maintenance isn't much different than a normal paint job. Alot of people think that those satin type paint jobs don't have a clear coat, but they do. From what i was told, you pick out a nice shiny paint job, and then the clear coat that is added is the "satin", and thats what dulls it. So it does have a clear coat and could be waxed. The down side.... you can NOT buff out scratch marks etc,... you would make those areas shiney,.. so then you'd have a shiney spot on a dull car. -Cannon I should go in tomorrow to pick out paint. -
