  1. Great vid, very informative. But I still like the 3.5 V6. Bullet proof as long as maintained. Like the old 5.0 in the Explorers, or even the 4.0 OHV's. The 4.0 SOHC not so much, although I did get 213k out of mine.
  2. UPDATE: 4pm 3/28 Well I'll be an Unkeys Muncle. It worked!! Pulled the neg battery cable for a few minutes then hooked it back up and reading the USB stick is restored. Thanks all for the input and feedback. I am VERY happy to have my USB music back. Looks like all the radio settings have not be affected either. It did not, however, restore the guidelines on the reverse cam but the cam still functions fine and the audio warnings are still there. So that I can live with. Thanks again! Duane
  3. Well, I gave the "Seek>> + Power" reset a try and no joy. Didn't do anything but thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm going to do the Fuse 29 pull, then the negative battery cable removal a try. The thing is that I work chef hours and usually don't get home until 11:30P-12am or so. After changing and settling in I don't get to looking at the Edge until after 1am. My neighbors are beginning to wonder why I'm working on my car at 1am! Heh. After I try the fuse pull and/or the cable removal, I'll post back. In the meantime if anyone thinks of anything else to try, I'm all ears!! Thanks for all the info!
  4. Omar, just to clarify... if you know.. Is that the Seek button on the right side of the steering wheel or the Seek button on the round dial on the center console? I assume it is the one of the round dial. Thanks for the info.
  5. I have the Lund Carflector on my black LTD and really like it. It color matches pretty well and looks great (but I am biased.) And I can tell when it has deflected something up and over the car. The Edge LTD does look great in black and I get comments on it but you do have to keep it clean. Tuxedo Black shows dirt quickly after a wash and does require diligent upkeep. But after a wash and wax, it looks gooooooood.
  6. Before I pull the battery cable I think I'll try shutting down, pulling Fuse #29 on the inside driver kick panel, then starting up, then shutting down again, and re-inserting Fuse #29. I read elsewhere online that that could possible clear the problem. I don't think so but I'll give it a try. I just reeeeally want be able to listed to my music again on USB and not have to mess with CD's. If this problem is unfixable then I guess I go to Bluetooth from my phone. Thanks for your feedback.
  7. I've tried loading only a few songs after I read about a potential problem with SYNC not being able to handle a full USB stick. I copied a handful of songs and tried that. No go. Still hung on 'indexing device.' I'll try the battery reset next. I've also check to see that I have the latest version of SYNC - I do. Also thought about doing a SYNC re-boot but isn't that what disconn the battery terminal does - forces a re-boot?
  8. A strange thing has just started to happen to my audio on my '11 LTD w/ Sync and MFT. I have been adding mp3 songs periodically to a 16g USB drive (about 150 so far) and to this point (2 days ago) everything has played fine in the Edge. I just select USB on the Entertainment screen and it plays the next song in the rotation. It also displays the song name and artist. I can skip/backup etc - normal operation. So far so good. Yesterday however, the USB stick could no longer be read. The system simply indicates "Unknown Artist/Unknown Song" on the main display and below to the left it indicates "Indexing Device." The progress indication shows that it is stuck about 1/3rd of the way through song 82 of 150. That's it. I have tried to wait out whatever 'indexing device' does to no avail. I have formatted the USB stick and recopied the mp3's to it to no avail. I have gotten a brand new USB stick and copied the mp3's to it to no avail. I have inserted the USB stick into the other USB port (in the center console) to no avail. It seems as though the ability to read mp3's off a USB stick has simply gone away into the ether. Anybody have any idea what could be going on? Any rec's for fixing this? Anybody every heard of a problem like this? Is there some fuse I can full to do an 'audio reset' or somesuch? This is very frustrating as it just appeared out of thin air and I can't seem to find a remedy. Thanks for any info! Edit: I have also verified that the file system format is FAT32 on the USB stick.
  9. I have an LTD AWD Edge and have actually been on icy roads and note a difference in traction and handling. Now, its certainly >not< like my previous two 4WD Explorers but it IS noticeably different (if you know what to notice) than any regular FWD vehicles I have owned. If you want true 4WD then buy a 4WD vehicle. And I readily admit that Ford's AWD is not anything near something like Subaru with their Symmetrical AWD System but I don't think its reasonable to expect it to be.
  10. Nick, nice pix. Great angles and color contrasts. Well done!
  11. Aha. Well this I did not know about Techron. I usually go 5k between oil changes and the trip put on about 2k so I think I will just go the other 3k and do a regular interval oil change. However, I will limit my use of Techron to the suggested interval. I also used Marvel Mystery Oil only because my dad swore by it and I used it in my Explorer and got 213k out of it and it was still running when I sold it. I really don't know much good MMO does it's just primarily out of habit. It could be snake oil like most of the other gas additives are. I use NO oil additives. Thanks for the feedback!
  12. I used the 'Complete Fuel System Cleaner.' That is all Autozone had when I went there and I didn't want to run all over town looking for regular Techron, I did do an oil change before I left so I was going to wait until the regular interval came up. Would not changing the oil now really be that bad? Thanks for the feedback.
  13. Got back earlier in the day from a roundtrip from Plano to Knoxville to visit the in-laws. Was gone a week so mileage and gas purchases include time spent at the destination. I ran a bottle of Marvel Mystery on the outbound trip and 2 bottles of Techron on the return. All gas purchases were from Top Tier suppliers with the exception of one fill-up at a Sams Club. Edge ran great with the exception of a CEL on a hard acceleration to merge into some fast traffic. I checked the CEL and it was a Cylinder 2 misfire although I did not perceive anything to be amiss. I cleared with my OBDII reader at the next stop and it did not appear again. I have 86k on the Edge now and probably need to change the plugs as they have not been changed previously. Particulars are as follows: Total Mileage: 1,791.2 Total Hours: 34.05 (running time) Total Fuel Cost: $203.68 Total Gallons Used: 86.84 Avg. Price Per Gallon: $2.35 (low was $2.18 and the high was $2.65) Avg. MPG: 20.63 Trip was I30 into Little Rock then I40 through Memphis, Nashville, on to Knoxville. Some in town driving in Knoxville but not that much, mileage was mostly highway. It starts to get mountainous after Nashville with the grade through Cookeville and Crossville into Knoxville in the Tennessee Valley. Ran into a little rain outbound through Little Rock and it snowed from about Cookeville into Nashville on the return. No accumulation and we could maintain speeds to 70mph. The wife and the pooch handled it well and we are all none the worse for wear. All in all a good trip. That is all. The smoking lamp is lit - feel free to mill about smartly.
  14. If you have a local Goodyear store you might check with them. The Goodyear I have been going to for 10+ years did a suck/fill with full synth for $90.
  15. Haven't done anything like mods et. al., but getting ready to drive from Dallas to Knoxville on Wed. Changed oil & filter, check/top all fluids, top tire air as needed, normal stuff when going on a trip. I plan to run some Techron on the outbound and inbound trips, and will only run a Top Tier gas on the trip (same as normal.) My wife and I will be driving straight though - about 12 hours with stops, 850 miles. Oh, and I loaded a BUNCH of songs on a USB stick from my listening pleasure.
  16. It's not a quick job but its easy enough to do. I did it with simple garage tools when I painted my front façade.
  17. As always, you can never guarantee that a water pump won't fail but you can do all you can to prevent it. I also do 30k intervals on my coolant changes and 5k intervals on Mobil-1 full syn and a Mobil-1 High Mileage filter. PTU is every 20k, RDU is 50k, and ATF is 30k.
  18. Tinfoil hats don't work. I STILL hear the alien voices with the hat on.
  19. Ok, reformatted my C: drive but now I can't get anything to work. Heh. Jes, kiddin'. Works fine now. Thanks!
  20. Got a strange thing that just started happening... I have a USB stick that I put probably about 100 MP3 songs on that I use in my '11 LTD. Copied them over (some from my PC, some from utoob using a converter) and they play just fine. Recently, I copied over a few more mp3s to the USB stick and now when I put it in my Edge they do not appear. Used the same process for the previous transfer and all worked fine but his recent one was unsuccessful. When I put the USB stick back in my PC the songs are there and play fine but when I put it in the USB port in the edge they do not appear. Any suggestions? Thanks for any feedback.
  21. Yes, I have the power lift gate and there is no problem. There is a cutout with a sewn seam around the lift arm. No interference whatsoever.
  22. I have the Kongka Cargo cover in my '11 Limited and love it. Covers nicely and rolls in/out of place easily (similar to the old Explorer cargo covers). The only thing is that there is a 1/2" rigid rod that is used to connect the cover clips to the headrest posts. It tends to 'walk' left or right and needs to be adjusted once in a while. Not that big a deal just kind of a nuisance. A way to keep it in place needs to be utilized. Other than that, I like it a lot. Looks OEM once installed.
  23. That happened to me. I thought I had a stuck accelerator a few times. Finally realized I was stepping on the brake pedal and the sole of my work boot was slightly resting on the gas pedal. Eliminate that issue first and then look at possible mechanicals.
  24. Just pull the plug and let it drain until it stops. I think the spec calls for Mercon LV-XT-19-QLV (or equivalent). I used Valvoline MaxLife LV Synthetic and have had no problems. 11.1Qts/10.5L is capacity but when I did a simple drain and fill I got about 6Qts out of it. I do my changes at 30k intervals.
  25. I have an install cheat sheet that I put together that has all the nut sizing and torque specs for each if you are interested.
