How is it that you had the dealer change the PTU lube? I have spoken to 2 dealers in my area (DFW metroplex) and they state the usual Ford line "The PTU lube is lifetime and...blah blah" and will not do a suction/refill. But I have an '11 Limited.. I see you have a '16 Sport. Do you have a drain plug?

Chipster, very cool! Late 'D' model with drop tanks. Also, the small nacelle from the fuselage to the vertical stab was an addition on later models. My father was 8thAF, 352 Fighter Group, "Bluenosed Bastards of Bodney." Bomber escort out of southern England and then raise as much hell as possible on the return. Flew with George Preddy - top WWII fighter ace. Lotsa' stories about those days.

2010 Edge Roof Side Rail Question
chefduane replied to Gortty-Pilot's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
That's what I'm looking to do - trade my strips for racks/side rails. -
My father was a P-51 pilot in WWII. Flew P51-B's first then the D. Earned the DFC, AM, and WWIIVM. 3 Confirmed. My brother is a retired Continental pilot - 727 driver. I'm just a Private - Gen Av. Spent some time in USCG on the West Coast MSO LA/LB and flew in some HU-16 Albatross's doing SAR and Drug Interdiction. Also on the fantail on various USCGC's looking up at HH52's but never actually was in one.

2010 Edge Roof Side Rail Question
chefduane replied to Gortty-Pilot's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
From doing research here and elsewhere, I'm almost positive they will fit. I have a 2011 Limited and am interested in getting side rails also. And the Thule AeroBlade Edge crossbars will work with the side rails and still have clearance for the BAMR. ps - if you decide to not use the rails, I'd be interested in them. -
Vibration problem in steering wheel
chefduane replied to 08FordEdge94's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
1. Warped rotors? When is the last time you did a brake job? Did they grind the rotors? 2. Have any front end work done recently that might have introduced air into the steering rack? That will cause front end shake felt through the steering wheel. Fortunately, if that is the case there is an easy fix. Do a couple of lock-to-lock figure 8 turns in a parking lot. That gets the air out of the system. Then top off the reservoir. 3. Get underneath and check for anything loose or unattached that might cause a shimmy. That's all I got. Hope you find the problem. -
I have tried to find a shop that would do a simple PTU oil vacuum and refill. So far, no takers. And Ford will only do complete remove/refill on the PTU. If anyone knows of a national chain that will do this, that would be great info to have. I suppose I could do the vacuum/refill myself (as a previous '98 Explorer 4x owner I sure did my share of flushes, etc.) I was just hoping to avoid the hassle.

Omar, thanks for the response. I have touched, pressed, held, etc.. the thing and still nothing happens. I'll check fuse 29 in the morning. But it looks as though fuse 29 also controls radio, multi-function display screen, finish panel and Sync module. If the fuse were the problem I would think I would have issues with those items also. But the emergency flashers are the only issue. And I really don't want to start tearing the center stack apart to get at the rear of the button. I may just decide to live with non-functional emergency flashers.

What am I not understanding about my '11 Limited emergency flashers? There is the small red diamond button indicator in the middle of the center stack just below the MFT screen. Isn't that what turns the flashers on?? Everything I have seen says it is. I touch it, nothing happens. It does not depress, just sits there like touch button. And I cannot find any other switch or button to turn on the flashers. I have tried it when the car is in various conditions - parked engine on, parked engine off, stopped in drive, etc. No emergency flashers. Perhaps it is a relay or fuse gone bad? I just want to know how to turn the dang flashers on!!! Thanks for any feedback.

Roof Rack Rails Trade for Roof Trim Strips
chefduane replied to Shaun's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
I see that this is a old thread but I hope some folks are still interested. I have an '11 Limited with the strips that I would be interested in trading for rails. PM me here or at 'chefduane@twc.com' <a href="mailto:" data-ipb="nomediaparse" chefduane@twc.com"="" data-cke-saved-href="mailto:">Thanks! -
I put a set of Husky front mud guards on my '11 Limited. They were only $40 and fit like a glove. Granted, they are not OEM and for an '11, but still look really nice and functional. And I like the look of mud guards on all 4 corners. I'd post some pix if I could figure out how to do it.

Having come over from the Explorer world just a few months ago, Ex owners never wave as we would have been continuously flailing our arms about! I don't wave in the Edge either. When riding the bike (big v-twin, and usually long highway miles) I always wave. Just a quick arm out or low wave - brotherhood of the open road and all that stuff.

Always named my cars after my dad's P-51 from WWII. "Little Buster" PE-V 4413849. But he ditched one over the North Sea. "Little Buster 2nd" came after that. I just stay with the original name.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
chefduane replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
TPMS indicator showed a low tire pressure. Upon inspection, I took a big wood screw to the left rear inner sidewall. Had to have a new G'Year Eagle RS-A R245/50r20 put on. $161.29. Oh well, life happens. Fortunately the Goodyear shop (been going to them for years) keeps them in stock and I was in/out in about an hour. -
I blacked out all three pieces on my '11 Limited with OEM matching Tuxedo Black from automotivetouchup.com. Three color coats and a three clear coats. Looks like factory. I am very pleased with the results.
-
I got the grille parts color matched painted and clear coated. Total for the paint and clear coat was $41 including a bottle of primer prep. I must say that the color match is remarkable! After I got them painted and mounted they really look like they are factory. I'll try to get a few pics and post them tomorrow.

Park Place Lexus - Plano, TX
chefduane replied to chefduane's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
Well, this is a first! Park Place Lexus called me on Monday and said they would like to alter the terms of my sales contract. I thought "Uh oh, here we go - sleazy sales tactics....) However, their finance manager said that they thought that rates might do down so before they closed on the original terms with the lender, they re-negotiated the original loan submission. My rate actually went down .5% and I will save about $1000.00 over the life of the loan. I checked EVERYTHING meticulously before I signed the amended contract and everything is the same except for Loan Rate (down .5%), Total Amortized Payments (down about $1000.00) and payment (down about $15/mo.) I asked why they would be willing to do this and they stated that they are a Premium Level Dealer and want to maintain a premium customer experience. And considering I have purchased/leased 2 Lexus's from them (a LS400 and a LS430) and now the Edge, they wanted to make sure I would be back as a return customer. I will be. Getting a lower rate AFTER the fact is a first for me! -
I've ordered a kit from a vendor that is color matched to code UH - Tuxedo Black. The kit includes a surface prep solution, color coat, and clear coat. I plan to scuff the already primered grille parts, use a tack cloth, then do the prep solution. A couple of color coats, then clear coat or two should do it. I'll try to post pix when I have the project done. Should have all color matched grille parts painted and installed for under $200. Not bad.
-
This is a great vid and much appreciated!! But after the bumper assembly is off, how do you remove the grille parts? Or do they just snap off from behind? Are they screwed on? Thanks for any feedback! Chef Duane

Just received the already primered grille parts from Ford. A local shop here in the Dallas area wants $340 to paint them Ford Tuxedo Black and then clear coat them. I think that's a little steep, but I've never dealt with a body/paint shop before. Does that sound about right or not? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!
