What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
chefduane replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
They don't; look THAT bad, but yeah, black would enjoin enhanced visual propitiation. -
I drove it a few miles home after swapping the battery and it will sit till tomorrow morning. Hopefully the BMS/PCM will be reset when I drive to the dealer in the morning.
-
Well I dropped a new battery in it (Duracell BXT-65-860) AGM and it still indicates "Check Charging System" so its got to the be alternator. It's off to the dealer tomorrow to check it out. I've also been having some symptoms of the brake booster problem and I've got the paperwork on that so I might as well have them also check that out. Why do I feel a $1000.00 hit headed right for me?

Vista Roof question

That's the way my '11 works. -
PerfA. Thanks!! And also thanks to Mac for his vids. Always great to get input as to the what, how, why, of maintenance and mods. And in video form - easier for me to learn by watching than by a manual.

OK, Duracell AGM 65-860 is on order. Will pick it up tomorrow, install, and go from there. I hope that is the issue. If not, I'll at least have a nice AGM battery for a while.

Re: belt. No, I did a visual check when it was running and everything looked ok.
-
The batt is a Napa so I am not sure how long its been in there. I just checked it; engine off it reads at about 11v, and engine on it reads at 11v. Not sure if that indicates a bad battery or problem with the charging system. Also, am I correct in my assumption that the A/C issue is also a symptom? I don't want to think that my battery and A/C crapped out on the same day.

So out of the blue this morning upon starting my '11 Ltd the "Check Charging System" warning comes on. As it was not convenient at the time to do any investigation, I continued on my trip. I later was able to check codes with my OBD reader and there are no codes that a flagged. Ironically, the A/C system has also quit cooling. In doing some research here I understand that the system will start shutting off various subsystems to conserve power, and I think (!) that is the reason for the A/C not cooling. Still blows fine just not cool. Also, there are no other issues currently with the car, Runs fine, just the charging system warning and no cool air. I am thinking battery and will go check voltages in minute but if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. She's no longer under warranty so I'd like to do as many diagnostics as I can before I determine it needs a dealer visit. Thanks!

Mac, thanks for posting these. I am a big proponent of understanding why things work the way they work and that's especially true when it comes to our automobiles. I've met so many people that are totally clueless as to how an internal combustion engine works. And then they get mad at Ford (chevy, dodge..etc) when the engine dies after they never did any required maintenance on it. You can take much better care of a machine if you know how the thing works!! I have no doubt that I got 213k out of my '98 Explorer because of good maintenance, and I'm sure my '11 Limited will have a long life due to proper maintenance, and that sure seems to be the case with your cars! Thanks again! PERSONAL NOTE: Today is our 24th wedding anniversary! (My wife is standing over my shoulder as I post this and I'll get big suck-up points if I mention it!!)

Two tone paint on 2nd gen Edge?
chefduane replied to Chipster's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
Big fan of Foose. Used to live near his shop in Huntington Beach. Anything Foose might do to an Edge would be OK with me. Heck, I'd like to own one of his renderings, much less an actual customized Foose car. -
+1 on that. I have an uninstalled set of KYB's and whence I put them in I will use Motorcraft strut mounts per MacT's advice and Omar's reiteration.
-
In general from what I have seen mentioned here in the group, most people go with either the Motorcraft OEM or KYB. Motorcraft simply because its OEM and provides the OEM ride, and KYB because its a little bit stiffer and provides more 'sportier' suspension performance. Either one should be just fine. Don't seem to hear many folks mention the Gabriels although I understand they make a quality product. I'm sure you probably would be just fine with any of them. Others may have a different opinion.

Service department in Lubbock Tx
chefduane replied to Jessicabunyard's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
Why are you posting this here? Shouldn't you be talking to the service manager? While your needed to vent is understandable, methinks your energies are best saved for a serious conversation with the SM and maybe GM of the dealership. Go get'em Jessica!! -
Remote Temerature Monitoring
chefduane replied to Sport17's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I've used wireless meat thermometers before. Advertised as good up to 300ft but it usually started giving weird readings around 100ft. Besides, as a chef I'm not usually that far away from what I'm cooking for any extended period of time. If I'm doing an event where I need to be away from the cooking, I have someone monitor it. Just curious, why would you want/need to realtime monitor the inside temp of the car? There are themometers that will tell you the max low and max high of something if that's what you're looking for. -
A 1 TB drive? For what? Music only? Man, that's A LOT of songs!!!

Nice find! I've seen some vids by Makuloco and he's spot on with tools and technique. Thanks!

Search 'armrest console lid cover leather synthetic for 11-14 edge black' and a bunch come up. Those are re-cover skin kits, some for as little as $30-$40. Might save some $$ just doing a re-cover. I did that on my Explorer and it came out great. (I would have posted the actual link but I my cut/paste function isn't cooperating today.)
-
addison... heh-heh, sorry I'm keeping them till I need them! Good try, tho!!
-
They probably would be ok but as you said, they are relatively cheap even for premium ones. As long as you are doing the rotors, do the pads. That ways you'll know you are starting our completely new from the get-go. However, search on 'brake booster problem' in the group and you will hear about a booster issue that is a known problem with some Edges. It could be the reason for a pedal pulsation. (I think I am developing the booster problem actually.) Good Luck!

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
chefduane replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Yes, please do post a vid of the differences in the horn sound. I'd be interested in that and I'm sure others would also. Sounds like those folks down there in Virginia are jonesin' for some root beer! -
The GPS on my '11 Limited works exactly as a GPS should. Sorry to hear you are having so many issues.
-
As I mentioned, I won't need them for another 50k miles. But $85 for a set of still-new-in-the-box KYB struts was just too good to pass up. I guess I was in the right place at the right time.
-
I will now make 'abnorment' a part of my vocab. I intend to use it bigly and very covfefe.
-
Looks like your on your own with that one. Maybe check a few salvage yards although there are not many Edges in yards as yet. Post a pic so we can get a look at one.
