Interior Disaster - 2016 Ford Edge Sport
chefduane replied to Inkrypshun's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
+1 on the CO detector. Big problem for the Explorer line. -
Playing analog audio in Sync 3 USB port
chefduane replied to captmark's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I would second the ripping to a usb stick. Easiest way to do it. Or, just put all you music on your iphone and use Bluetooth. Besides, unless you have upgraded your speakers in the Sport, playback is only going to be as good as the output quality of your speakers. -
I fell in love with ARE Torq Thrust D's the first time I saw them on Frank Bullitt's '68 Mustang GT fastback. Cragar Super Sports in gray will due in a pinch.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
chefduane replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Eons ago when I was but a lad I worked at the local municipal airport washing and waxing gen av airplanes. I would also wax the windshields with a good quality carnauba wax - NON ABRASIVE. I pilots loved how the rain would just bead and rinse away. I used to do this on my cars but for a few years now I have been doing a summer and winter application of Rain-X. Might try going back to wax tho. -
2010 Ford Edge strut and brake replacement
chefduane replied to tanman_2006's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I Sea Foamed my Explorer I previously had using the vacuum method and other than smoking out the neighborhood I really didn't perceive any noticeable difference in performance. The only additive I've ever used in the Edge is Techron. I heard of Redline but have never seen it anywhere. Is it typically sold at autoparts stores or mail order only? I might give it a try. EDIT: Available at my local O'Reilly. $15 bucks for 15ozs! At a buck an ounce the stuff BETTER work!! -
Battery Replacement Information
chefduane replied to tamugrad2013's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I recently had to put a new battery in my Edge. I bought a Duracell AGM on sale at Sams and so far so good. I was concerned about losing all the presets, nav info, etc when swapping the battery but I used one of those super duper Harbor Fright 9v battery keeper doohickeys that plugs into once of the dc outlets and is supposed to save all the preset info. It worked I guess as I didn't lose anything, but I think it was enigma or akirby that said one of those things wasn't needed anyway. Either way the battery swap was successful. My favorite NASA story: After many years of testing, development, and cost overruns NASA was able to produce the 'Space Pen' that was able to write in 0g, upside down, stainless steel, and went for years before running out of ink. Your tax dollars at work! Years later at a space symposium after the end of the cold war NASA was proud to display their handiwork on the pen. The Russians grunted, smiled, and said "We solve problem 1961!" The Americans were amazed! How were the Russians able to come up with a solution so early!? Russian say "We use pencil!" -
What to expect at 200,000+ miles

I was thinking about one of those suction pumps for the PTU but I was concerned about how thick the fluid would be and if the thing could suck it out. I found a local shop that will do a PTU flush/fill for $80 full synth, so I think I will go that route. -
A bad fuel pump and a how-to on an 09 Edge Limited w/ AWD
chefduane replied to Jsmith10000's topic in 2009 Edge & MKX
That seems strange. Why would they not provide an access door, then decide to put one in, then decide to not put one in? Have the Edges always had an access door? -

chefduane replied to Jsmith10000's topic in 2009 Edge & MKX
This is an excellent post! Thanks! I guess Ford maybe heard from the zillions of Gen2 Explorer owners (including me) who cut a hole underneath the passenger seat to get to a failed fuel pump. It was either that, or unhook all the electricals and the filler tube/neck, drop the tank (a major PITA) to get to the pump assy which was mounted in the top of the tank. -
LOLLOLOL!! Touche'!! I will forward this on to my wife (Tennessee '87) who will now hunt you down and eat your pets! Ironically, my alma mater (U of Redlands, CA.) are the Bulldogs! Regardless... SEC, SEC, SEC!!! (Why do I think Sept 30th is going to be a big day for both our households?)

^ truer words were never spoken. Keep your CAI's, your lowering kits, and your hi-dollar tunes! We got door hinge bolt covers! And all that matters is that I FEEL GOOOD!! QED Thus ended the lesson. -

Yay! Those look AWESOME!! Best mod/upgrade possible!!!! (ok, so I'm biased...) -
How about black on black? I'd put a black MacT sticker on my smoked AVS hood deflector. Way cool.

Ppgs 291-299 in your convenient user manual. Depending upon year, of course.

Always when doing a blinker fluid refill check the muffler bearings. Muffler bearings are susceptible to muffler borers.

Not a big fan of blue cars, but that actually looks pretty nice. Agree with the black accents, prolly look pretty mean if those wheels were a flat black.

Protecting leather interior in hot dry climates
chefduane replied to mikeym's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
They swore by the stuff and it really cleaned the seat well. They then used two types of conditioner to really get it into good shape, soft, supple, and clean. I wouldn't use the stuff regularly and long term for the reasons you mentioned, but for a one time clean it really did a good job.- 11 replies

I had one on my Explorer but will not put one on the Edge. My Edge is being used more as a sedan now than a true SUV. Although it is AWD its really not considered to be a 'rugged off roader.' And I certainly do not intend to push anything with it. But if you have a need for a pushbar then go for it. I would just be careful about how and what you are pushing.

Protecting leather interior in hot dry climates
chefduane replied to mikeym's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I had the drivers seat & back on my Explorer reconditioned and the place that did it (The Seat Shop in Allen, TX) used Scrubbing Bubbles shower tile cleaner to clean the leather. They swore by it and the seat came out looking really great. Good bunch of guys to do business with also.- 11 replies

Having lived in SoCal and Texas the best protection I've ever found is a garage. In lieu of that, a carport. If neither one of this is available the Zymol Leather Conditioner is excellent stuff. I'm sure any good leather conditioner would do but I've had good luck with the Zymol product. Once a month might be overkill but once going into summer and then again heading into winter would suffice. EDIT: And +1 on a good window tint.- 11 replies

"Plug-and play performance chip"...

Oh man, you mean the Swirl-A-Matic Vortex Intake that I bought at the fair is a waste of money!? -
OK, so I verified that I am on the latest version Java AND I uninstalled all the previous versions. I checked to see if Flash was enabled and it was. I have no specific adblocker running although do run MS Security Essentials and Defender. I periodically run Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware and so far I've had no malware or system hijacks. Also I run CCleaner periodically just to keep the clutter down. I also just ran the MS updates to make sure I am up to date with Win 7. I run Win 7 SP1 64bit. So for the update.. BOF still does not like FireFox. I am running 54.0.1 which I think is the latest version. HOWEVER, BOF now seems to like IE11 again! I am able to get logged on no problem just as before. No 'IE stopped working' dialog box. So I am back to normal with IE11. Don't know what it was or what I did to rectify the error but all seems ok now. Thanks for all the input on what to check, etc.. Whatever y'all had me run through seemed to fix the issue! Probably ghosts in the machine. Thanks! Duane
