What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
chefduane replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
+1 on the rain guards. I use the in-channel ones from Weather Tech. Started using them when I had the Explorer. I don't smoke but I do like to be able to open the windows a bit when its raining and not have any water come in. Also, here in Texas when it's 50,000 degrees out I can open all four windows a 1/2" or so and get a little ventilation when its parked in the sun. -
The first thing I thought of was timing chain slap. Developed that in my Explorer and a diesel was exactly what it sounded like. 42k is a bit early to develop the problem, tho. At its not inexpensive.

Have you looked at the invoice pricing w/ options and compared that to what your OTD price was? That's the only way you can reasonably quantify it. Also, the dealer will get a holdback on the sale so they will make a profit. How did you finance it? Pricing has a lot to do if you used dealer or FMC financing. Regardless, if YOU think it was a good deal then that is all that matters.

2013 Ford Edge Sport Reversing Camera Failure
chefduane replied to Miner's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yep. 2001 AWD LTD. Already had the brake booster replaced, the shifter indicator light is out, and the warning lines on the backup cam have disappeared although the cam and audio warnings still work. I figure I'll wait until the thing goes completely kaput before I sink 1200 bones into a new cam setup. -
Yes, I run a top tier gasoline (Costco) almost exclusively. I keep a list of Top Tier providers laminated in my glove box for when we are on a trip. (My wife thinks I'm a bit nuts.) I occasionally run a tank of 93 through it and also a bottle Techron periodically. No other additives. I used to run a bottle of Marvel Mystery oil through my 4.0 SOHC Explorer every once in a while. Got 213k miles outta' her, but I figure the Edge can get by with a Top Tier gas and some Techron.

2012 Ford Edge Sport side mirror puddle light bulb #?
chefduane replied to Jessie111701's topic in Welcome Forum!
Should be a #3021. Pre-made LED puddle lights can be purchased at 'daytimebrightlites.com.' Plug and play.- 1 reply

When I was researching buying the Edge I was also interested in the Escape. I was coming from an Explorer with true 4x4 and I thought the Escape was the same (real 4x4.) Not so. So I decided on the Edge AWD. Not real 4x capability but we did have some ice and minor accumulation here in Dallas today and the Edge managed fine.

Hi From Over The Pond (As It Is Commonly Referred To)
chefduane replied to DavesEdge's topic in Welcome Forum!
I've driven right-hand drive in the UK on the other side of the road and it took some getting used to, but I don't think I'm coordinated enough to drive and manual shift with my left hand also!! -

Welcome from Texas! Is your Edge left hand or right hand drive? -
2013 calls for 93? Spec for 2011 3.5L is 87.
-
Good info on the seatbelt extensions! Thanks! But I'm curious, you mentioned something called a 'bulky winter coat.' Not sure if folks down here in Texas know what that is!
-
Same mats, same hinge covers here also. I also converted all my interior/exterior lamps to LED. Really makes a difference. Also, I might recommend a skid cover on the lip of your bumper into the rear cargo area. Really helps prevent scratches. But don't buy the dealer one unless you REALLY want 'Edge' embossed on it. WAY overpriced and other aftermarket ones can be had that are just as nice and a lot less. Trust me, I bought the FORD one on a whim while I was at the dealer. Costly mistake. Nice lookin' Edge!!

Heh. We have a 13lb. miniature poodle. When he rides in the Edge it's usually in my wife's lap! When we go on an extended trip we have a kennel that we put in the center of the back seat and he kinda' wanders between there and her lap.

There's probably not a valid reason to change it earlier but it certainly wouldn't hurt. I also always change engine oil on a new or used purchase within 3k miles. It sets the benchmark that I can then follow. In reality, it probably would be great to change your oil every 1000 miles but there would be no valid practical reason to do it.

^ Yeah, man. Chicks flock to guys with those hangin' off the hitch.

Mobil advertises that M1 meets/exceeds the Ford FL-500S spec. I'm sure you couldn't go wrong with either one.
-
I run Mobil-1 5w20 Extended Performance Full Synth and a Mobil-1 M1-212 Extended Performance filter at 5k intervals, give or take. 5.5qts/5.2L with filter. I've had good luck with Mobil-1 products on other vehicles so I saw no need to change. Coolant is Motorcraft Specialty Green VC-10A2/WSS-M97B55A. Mind you, these are for my '11 AWD Limited. 11.7qts/11.1L.

I've gotten my tires rotated a few times at a Goodyear location (they give lifetime tire rotations when you buy tires) and later, when doing a brake job myself I've had to pound with my pneumatic impact wrench to impact those suckers off! I have a small mushroom type compressor and more than once it's run out of pressurized air after I've had to lay on the reverse setting on the wrench for a while. Now, I either do my own rotations or stand in the service bay and insist that they finger tight them and then ONLY torque them to 100 ft/lbs.

Fantastic vehicle. I might have to get a few of those.

08 Edge clunks very loud going into reverse
chefduane replied to stan1942's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
I had that issue on my Explorer. Turned out to be U-joints. -
RDU spec is Motorcraft 80w-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL about 2.4 Pints/1.15L or until she blurbs a bit out of the fill hole. PTU spec is Motorcraft 75w-140 Synthetic Lubricant XY-75W140-QL/WSL-M2C192A 12oz/.35L or until she blurbs out the fill hole. If you want to strictly stay with spec then go with the Motorcraft, but I would think that the Royal Purple 75W90 would probably be ok for the RDU. Disclaimer: This is spec for a 2011 Limited AWD.
-
I suppose you can do anything to it that you want. Why is a smoked deflector not acceptable?
-
+1 I just did a 'suck and fill' on my RDU. Pretty easy to do.

Does it really work? Might have helped back in the day (if you know what I mean.) PS: The go to product for car odor elimination back then was this stuff called Ozium, a glycol based air sanitizer. Kept one in the car and one in my room.
