Missing Cabin Air Filter Screws
normkol replied to Correy's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I've never seen the need for those screws. I understand the OP says his tabs are broken, maybe he should get a new cover. I feel the tabs alone are sufficient. My wife has a Honda and my daughter has a Toyota. Both use a similar cover with tabs, but no screws. This is one time I think Ford over-engineered the design. -
Changing destination while driving

Try doing it by voice command. -
Bluetooth not connecting
normkol replied to Starting to hate this car's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Not relevant to the current issue, but I recently was upgraded to Android 11 on my Samsung Note 20 5G. -
That was the reason the salesman gave for the $200 charge. It takes time to "leak" all the air out of the tires before they fill them with nitrogen. There were other add on's my wife let them add, about $1000 worth. I got them all taken off except the nitrogen, they wouldn't budge on that.

Only 20 or so cars on the lot
normkol replied to circatee's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
All this talk about installing the "chips" is a misnomer, I believe. The chips are part of assemblies, circuit boards, etc. It's not just a case of plugging in a chip. I wonder if the cars can be driven without the missing chips. If not, handling them would be a royal pain. -
When my wife bought her Honda Odyssey in 2016, dealer charged $200 for nitrogen fill. I wasn't with her, and she paid it. The last time she buys a car by herself.

I have the 2016 Edge SEL bought new. It has been very reliable. The only repair done was the APIM, which is the computer controlling SYNC. Otherwise, it's been a great car. Take it back where you bought it, 5 days is too short a time to start having problems on an expensive car like this.

I just had the RDU fluid changed at Firestone yesterday, part of my annual maintenance. I only drove 4k miles last year, so I use synthetic oil and change it once a year. Currently have 36k miles on the car. They charged $112 for the RDU. Funny how they billed it, $56 for fluid and $56 labor. Yeah, one pint of gear oil is $56, in what world? They wouldn't do the PTU, claimed it needed a "special Ford tool". I think they just didn't want to do it.

I called today to make an appointment to get this done. They said the parts are on national backorder, and they figure at least a couple of months. Considering we were originally notified last August, what the heck is taking so long? I know the pandemic screwed up a lot of manufacturing but 10 months is a long time.

I got the notice on Monday that parts are now available and we can get our cars serviced. Does anyone have access to Ford's procedure for the dealers, as to what will be covered under the recall? I don't want to have the dealer trying to charge me for the brake fluid flush that I assume is part of the procedure.

Wireless charger interference
normkol replied to thesavo's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
My Samsung wireless charger interferes with my Citizen atomic watch. It never gets the signal if I leave it near my charging phone at night. No phone, it gets the signal fine. -

I agree, they often aren't. In this case, they are. -
Motorcraft Wiper Blades
normkol replied to normkol's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
I understand now why there are different numbers for left and right. Rock Auto is much cheaper than Amazon on these, about $7 each. So, even with shipping, it is a better deal. I try to buy automotive parts from automotive parts dealers, other products also from their specialty dealers. I'm afraid of a world where Amazon becomes the only place to go to. -
I just wanted to recount my experience replacing my wipers, 2016 Edge SEL. I was amazed the original blades lasted about 4 years, never had that before. So, I wanted to replace with the same, Motorcraft. When ordering from Rock Auto, I didn't notice that I was ordering WW2801PF, which is a universal replacement, it has several adapters in the package. I was disappointed that these blades were noisier than the originals, and didn't seem to wipe as well. After a few months, I went to the Motorcraft website. They show these blades as replacement, but show other blades as OE replacements. They are WW2755 for left, and WW2760 for right. I don't know why they need different numbers for right and left, you would think they would be the same. Anyway, these blades come with the Edge adapter pre-installed, and no other adapters in the package. I am happy to say these are just as quiet as the originals, and wipe very well. My advice to anyone replacing with Motorcraft is to buy these OE replacements. Rock Auto had these, as well.

Ford's policy on map updates really sucks. We recently got a Honda CR-V for my wife. It has the Garmin navigation system. You get 5 years of free updates. Last week I decided to check if there was an update, since the car came with the 2019 maps. Sure enough, I was able to update her car to the 2020 maps, totally free. Ford's $109 update only goes to 1/2018, really not worth it.

Welcome to the forum. There's lots to learn here.

I've seen a Youtube of someone removing this battery. When you remove the hold down in the front, you can then slide the battery towards you, making the negative terminal accessible. I haven't actually done this, but I also have a 2016 and expect to be doing this soon, so I'll be interested to hear from someone who has actually changed the battery.

Sync 3.0 Very Sluggish and Nav Freezes
normkol replied to normkol's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Well, hopefully this saga has come to a happy ending. I got called on Tuesday that the apim was in, scheduled installation for today, Thursday. I waited for it, it seemed much more organized and relaxed at the service department than when I had been there in January. Two hours and it was done. As a bonus, the new apim came with the updated navigation, so I didn't have to pay for that. Just the $50 deductible of my Premiere plan. I just realized, the maps are 1 17, not the latest 1 18. I didn't even know 1 17 existed. It's still a big step up from the 1 14 the car came with. -
One reason to keep an inexpensive 12VDC compressor in your trunk.

Sync 3.0 Very Sluggish and Nav Freezes
normkol replied to normkol's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
CARR142, how long did it take to get the APIM each time you had it replaced? Btw, bummer that you have had to do it twice. I see in the latest Consumer Reports reliability ratings the Edge gets a poor rating for in-car electronics. It's too bad, since the Sync system is great when it is working. -
Sync 3.0 Very Sluggish and Nav Freezes
normkol replied to normkol's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Latest update... It's now 6 weeks since the part was ordered, still not in. The service advisor, who is not responsive at all (I always have to call him, he has never called me back), is saying he doesn't think the APIM will be covered under the Premium Care extended warranty. I looked at the list of covered components and it shows both navigation and Sync to be covered. He also doesn't know why the part is taking so long to come in. This is going to be fun.
