Using a catch can & using quality oil & gas will help with coking. Also changing your oil regularly will keep the impurities out as well. I wouldn't consider our 2016 SEL high mileage, low 41,xxx range. But I've had a catch can installed on it since around 12,000 miles. In the summer months, the can collects very little. In the winter months, it collects a lot more. It's not terrible, just need to check it maybe once or twice during the winter months to make sure that the can isn't full. May be different with other cars, but both my cx7 & edge produce similar results each year.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

Finally got around to putting the summer wheels on. Guaranteed to snow now. Busted out the power washer & combined with some elbow Grease, the winter wheels came cleaner than they've ever been. -
Centric Premium Blank Rotors & Stop Tech Z23 pads are my choice. They've saved our bacon more than once & they produce WAY Less brake dust than OEM. ~$165 + shipping from RockAuto.com for the fronts. The fins are also coated that reduce the amount of rust on the fins of the rotors if you live in an environment that gets snow/salt, these definitely reduce the amount of rust that accumulates on the rotors over time. Here's my thread about it:

If disconnecting the positive cable scares you, then wrap your wrench in a rag or something like it that's non conductive & you're set.
-
remove the top of your airbox & remove it from the intake tube. Disconnect the hold down, the disconnect the positive battery cable & wrap the end in a rag or something non conductive. Then slide battery forward enough to remove the negative battery cable. Slide old battery out & replace with new one. Do the steps in reverse to reinstall new battery.

Decided to drain my catch can while it was nice out. Figured while it was up in the air, I would do an oil change. While it was draining oil, did a quick clean on the engine bay. Then figured I'd check the cabin air filter & it was disgusting as well, so it was replaced too. -

Battery Maintenance on 2016, 2.0L Eco Boost Edge
lildisco replied to oskar27's topic in 2016 Edge & MKX
I have a 2008 Mazda CX7 that I bought certified used from Mazda in 2011 with 37,xxx miles & Mazda changed the battery out before I purchased it. I currently have roughly 87,xxx miles on it. Since I rarely drive it, it goes on my battery tender after every use. I had to change my battery out 2 years ago (2018) because even though I barely drive it & leave it on my battery tender, it didn't have the amperage to start the car, nearly leaving me stranded in my mom's driveway in a spot that would have made it VERY difficult to get a jump. I get what you're saying, I was on borrowed time with my battery & I knew that. Changed to an AGM & haven't had any issues. Just for giggles, I threw our '16 Edge on the battery tender last night & within 2 hours showed solid green on the battery tender. I don't have a way to check amperage, but at least it's fully charged voltage wise. You would think that having a lot of LED technology in a car would help with a drawing voltage, & to an extent you're right. But there's WAY more sensors & other things going on while the car is on & even off compared, to your leased '13 -
Battery Maintenance on 2016, 2.0L Eco Boost Edge
lildisco replied to oskar27's topic in 2016 Edge & MKX
Never had a need to check the levels. If it's OEM, I'd start to look at a replacement as it's 4+ years old at this point. If concerned about it being low, you could throw a battery tender on it for at night or whenever you're not driving it for extended periods of time. Batteries don't last very long in newer vehicles. Mostly due to all the electronics on these things. I swapped mine out about a year after we bought ours new because the wife left the lights on all night. Didn't want to take a chance on a failure. Installed an AGM battery instead. I believe that on the 2015's & up there's a battery management system that only charges the battery at certain points while driving. That BMS module does need to be reset when you replace the battery so that the car knows the new battery & charges it accordingly. I also believe that there's different battery options too like lead acid & AGM you can change with FORScan -
People are more concerned with getting their liquor, instead of oncoming traffic... Auto-x, Performance Driving Events, Centric Blank Rotors & PowerStop Z23 Pads definitely helped ?

Sync3 version 2.2 on 2012 Ford Focus complete blackout
lildisco replied to Mshah's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Speaking of FocusFanatics.com, been a mod over there for quite some time. Still friends with the original owner & met most of my friends through the site. It's definitely NOT what it used to be. The FJ VS FF rivalry, seen the SVT Wagon, rode in a SVT putting over 350HP to the ground, Auto-X'd a 2005 ST that was turbo'd to around 250HP (actually was FF.com's Ride Of The Year). Still communicate with a lot of the old school people there. To the matter at hand, did you do a retro fit? I didn't think they started putting sync 3 into Ford l vehicles till 2016. -
If you call them, they might be able to make you some sort of deal. I know at 1 point, there was a military discount.

Auto Control Assistance Explanation Needed ...
lildisco replied to SDguy2020's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
You can use your a/c with the heat on, it helps get rid of the moisture. With the settings you have selected, it automatically turns on the a/c to get the inside air temp to 72 degrees, whether the outside temp is 40 degrees or 90 degrees. If you're worried the having the heat on with the a/c will cause damage, you're not going to do any harm. It's perfectly normal. I do it all the time with my 2010 E-350 work truck & our 2016 SEL. -
Winter Months, I get a lot of condensation in my TeamRXP Catch Can on my 2.0 Eco. During the summer months, i barely get enough to fill a bottom of a cup.

You can have several places do a fluid exchange that shouldn't be terribly expensive. Here's 1 thread that includes a link to another thread on what you need to purchase & a installation video:
-
I would change most, if not all of your fluids. Trans, engine oil & filter (full synthetic), coolant, PTU, washer fluid (excessive, but better to have it when needed), Engine Air Filter & Cabin Air Filter. I've found that when I do an oil change, it takes me a few days to get the oil to the full mark. It takes the oil a few hours to drain back into the pan. I just add a little bit every morning before the wife leaves for work, until it shows at the full mark. On my '16, the full mark is the top hole & not the line. Lastly enjoy your edge! Maybe update your Sync 3 to the latest version so that you can enjoy Android Auto. If you have an Apple iPhone, you'll need to upgrade the USB Hub in the console to take Advantage of Apple Car Play.

Panoramic Roof tinting
lildisco replied to OB1KINOBE's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Had ours done in our 2016 within a few months of ownership. It wasn't laser cut or anything, the guy cut it himself & applied it in 2 different sections. I can't remember the name of the product used, but it was a bigger name brand company. Sounds like the place you went to uses more of a computer system. I'd maybe find an 'old school' tinter who can free hand what can be done. Or maybe a different computer system place that can take measurements & make something that can give you more coverage to your liking. We went with 5% because usually when you want the sunshade open, it's very sunny. -
Fluid film is great because it's non toxic & environmently friendly. We've been using it on company trucks for years & the frames & body panels look new on vehicles that around 10 years old.

I coat the underside of our 2016 SEL every winter with fluid film. I pull back the felt cover as far as I can reach & just spray everything. Also, whenever I rotate the tires or oil changes, I coat the areas I see with it. The underside of the Edge is like new. We live in NE Ohio & deal with salt & brine so we need all the protection we can get.

Keep in mind that Xtra is a sport with a 2.7L V6 twin turbo & the OP is a 2.0 Ecoboost

Pretty sure the Vette could have caught up with that ST in no time, but we can't see the un edited video. Plus, who's to say that the ST wasn't lapped more than once by the Vette or the Lambo? The world may never know.
-
My bad, assumed that you meant both the Lambo & Corvette because they were behind the ST. I'll amend my post to say just the Vette ? Still, saying that the Vette in the video was getting smoked by the ST is most definitely quite hilarious.
