Sync 3 2016 upgrade to CarPlay
luxpow replied to tpm419419's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Nevermind. found it here : https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync-3/android-auto/sync-3-plus-android-auto.html?year=2016&model=Edge&sync=sync3 Note: Android Auto is available on 2017 model year Ford vehicles with compatible SYNC 3. Owners of 2016 model year Ford vehicles with SYNC 3 are required to perform a software upgrade to use Android Auto. Please check back on the Ford Owner site this summer for more information about this upgrade. So I am good. No new HW required for Android Auto :-) -

I ordered a 2016 Edge Titanium 302A
luxpow replied to CapeDave's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Did you get any written proof of price promised ? Congrats on your order -
What are the various stages a custom order goes through ? My dealer told me yesterday that my "order has been pulled by the factory and headed for build". But I was expecting a VIN to be generated first, then a window sticker etc. So I am confused especially since its been only a week and I was not even expecting a VIN. My understanding of the whole process so far is : 1) You request a custom build with the dealer 2) Dealer uploads the order in their system the following Monday/Tuesday 3) Ford analyses the build and approves/rejects it based on whether they can still take orders for that MY etc. 4) The manufacturing plant (Oakville, Canada) downloads the order 5) A VIN is generated for the car 6) Window sticker is generated 7) The car is built (in 2 days) 8) The car is shipped to the dealer 9) You pick the car from the dealer Please correct if wrong. Thanks in advance.

That must be some kind of a record. I just wish my order shows that speed as well.
-
Thanks for that info ! that doesnt sound too bad for a 45k vehicle especially if the problem occurs after 100k miles which in my case will be atleast 10 yrs later.
-
I wont know till 2 months I guess since the car is on order and I get rebates running on the day of the delivery. So its a gamble.

How much would it cost to fix a PTU issue in its worst form if I dont go with an extended warranty ? Sorry I havent even started reading to understand what the issue means.
-
Thats some solid advice. I will do that to see if I will need to buy an extended warranty. Quick search didnt reveal any PTU issues with 2015 or later Edge models. Maybe they fixed the issues or just that those cars havent reached that stage yet.

2016 Ford Edge Titanium + AWD + 2.0L ecoboost + Too good to be blue + Ebony + 302A + Drivers Package
-
Thats exactly how I think I will feel about it. I just hope the Califonia sun never makes it appear a shineless depressed grey. We also chose the ebony interior and now praying the whole package doesnt end up looking lifeless. Really loved the light interior but too much maintenance I feared especially with perforated leather.

You have it ?

That color looks different every time I look at it. I fell in love at first sight when I saw it in person. But when I see it in pics and videos now, it doesnt appear that special. How do you like the color. Does it look fantastic only in sunlight or other special lighting conditions ?

Order placed but could hardly live through the first day itself. How did you guys survive the wait ?

Difficulty finding 2016 Edge Titanium Turbo AWD with 302B?
luxpow replied to mjonis's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
It doesnt have to be easy for Ford to do it :-) They practically invented how things are manufactured. They can do it again. And its not that hard either. Custom ordering is not for the faint hearted. -
Difficulty finding 2016 Edge Titanium Turbo AWD with 302B?
luxpow replied to mjonis's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I do understand and agree but I was replying to the part where you say "It's possible they are ordering some of the models you mentioned but they're selling as fast as they hit the lot." And the idea that Ford makes cars where tech packages/tires can be added/removed at dealer site is a completely different thing. -
Difficulty finding 2016 Edge Titanium Turbo AWD with 302B?
luxpow replied to mjonis's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Hmmm I hope thats the case that they are selling that fast. But if that were the case, dealers would always remain stocked on those configs or atleast show those configs in the "dealer ordered" cars in inventory.ford.com. Would be interesting to see some stats on what configs/colors are selling the most. I feel Ford could do better to prevent fragmenting their market so much. Or maybe if these 3011A, 302A etc. & wheel sizes could be a dealer swap-able features, we would be somewhere. Ford has re-invented engineering in the history and I am confident they can do it again. -
Should I also be getting a written proof of the worst/maximum price I will end up paying for the car. i.e. the "price - dealer discounts - todays rebates" ?
-
What are the other things I should watch out for when placing an order ? I will most probably be placing an order tomorrow. Also what all should I note down after placing order. eg. order number, confirmation number, customer id, dealer id etc. ?

Difficulty finding 2016 Edge Titanium Turbo AWD with 302B?
luxpow replied to mjonis's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
There is nothing called 302B. Did you mean 302A ? Yes Ford is apparently trying some new magical sales methodology which is beyond me. 1. They have priced the Edge higher than the German brands. 2. They are removing the most beautiful colors from the option list. ("Gaurd" is gone and I am sure "to good to be blue" will be gone next year) 3. The inventory is a joke. You wont find the 302A + driver package. 4. And even if you do, it will also have other crap like cold weather package, bigger wheels and tow package. 5. Zero rebates Ordering is the only option left. -
Thanks for all the replies guys ! So 2 more questions : 1) Do I have to choose/lock now whether I want today's incentives or delivery time incentives. Or can I pick one at delivery time because I will know both numbers. Locking it now sounds like a gamble. Whats the advice ? 2) I do have private cash offer now already. But that expires in 60 days i.e. most likely before the car arrives. Are you suggesting I subscribe to brouchures so that I have a more fresh one at delivery time ?
-
I am thinking of ordering a 2016 Edge but have some questions in mind. Different dealers answer each differently. Could you guys help answer these to the best of your knowledge : Whats the best and worst duration it takes to get your car in your experience ? Is the $500 deposit a part of the price or something you pay on top of the price ? What rebates are you eligible for. The ones running now or the ones when your car is delivered ? Can private cash offers be applied in advance ? I have one that will most likely expire before the car arrives. When your car arrives, is picking it up exactly same as buying any other car off the lot. As far as rebates and promotions are concerned ? Thanks in advance !!!
